3294 Tasting Notes
While I was sick I received my Adagio order, which included this & a few other teas I was really excited about (and that’s saying alot, because most of the time I’m not that into flavored teas). So, of course, this was my other bath tub tea. The tea base itself is just ok, but I love the additions of Hazelnut & Vanilla, & being an Aquarius (Jan 27th), I had to give it a try! It is a tasty tea, different from anything else I have in my cupboard, & destined to be enjoyed again & again. Now I have a gig to go play at the Peabody Opera House (no, I’m not playing in an opera, although I used to play with an opera theater a very long time ago, & I loved that job!).
It is so good to be back among the living, & for my first black tea of the day, what else could I choose? It felt so good to actually be able to taste the wonderful depth that is Laoshan Black. If you haven’t tried it, you don’t know what you’re missing! Get some at verdanttea.com
You’ll be glad you did!
It seems that no matter what I do with this stuff, I just don’t really care for it. I tried the latte, I tried the smoothie (tolerable, but not something I crave), so today, as one final attempt, I just whisked it in a bowl until it was frothy to drink it like a Matcha is suppose to be enjoyed. One sip, ick. I tried adding stevia…ick. I tried passing it on to either of my sons, & they didn’t care for it either.
I realize I’m the only person on this site who doesn’t think this stuff is the greatest invention ever. Sorry, Red Leaf, I don’t like flavored Matcha. In my opinion, it’s a sacrilege to the wonders of the leaf. I love Matcha because it is pure, because it’s the greenest of the green, because it tastes wonderful. I’ll pass on the rest of the flavored stuff, & stick with plain. I’m forwarding this to my tea drinking sister, MsWhatsit, who actually is my REAL sister, LOL! Enjoy!
NO! YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY person who doesn’t fall all over themself in praise for this product! I got completely reamed for disliking it, so you are dfininitly not alone :) I feel better knowing I’m not alone in disliking it and in not fawning all over it
Aweee you by no means have to like it Terri. Don’t even worry about that! Diversity is what makes us wonderful!
Fleurdelily so yours arrived and you got to try it? Im sorry you still didn’t care for it. I thought you just didn’t care for how long it took to get to you I have been away for a day or two ill so didn’t see your note on the tea itself. Bummer.
I agree with @momo – this site and the world would be a very boring place if everyone liked the same thing. And, it would be a very unhappy place too … because as my grampa used to say, “if everyone liked the same thing, then every man would want to be married to the same woman”
Not every tea is going to be for every person. But at least now you know, right? And you don’t have to wonder if you would like it.
Terri, thank you for being honest and for giving it a try (every which way you could!). fleurdelily, reamed? Really? That’s as bad as judging someone for adding milk and/or sweetener to every tea. How silly. You like what you like and that’s that. =)
Thanks for everyone’s responses, & I agree. We are each entitled to & allowed to express our own opinions, in matters of tea, food, spirituality, etc. There is no right or wrong answers here, just preferences. So I still love all of you, regardless, or perhaps because of, our differences of opinion! Fleurdelily, thank you for sharing, it’s nice to know I’m not alone in my tastes!
You’d be glad to know that besides flavored matcha we also offer 5 quality levels (soon 6) of green unflavored matcha for all the hard to satisfy matcha lovers :-)
I love it when I wake up in the morning & I can taste things!! Finally!
For breakfast: a hearty slow cooked beef stew with carrots, parsnips, green beans, lots of onions & garlic, & locally raised grass fed beef.
For tea, I probably should be having a bold Irish Breakfast with a meal like this, but I really wanted a cup of Matcha. I love Matcha, & of the ones I’ve tried so far, this one has been the best: pure, OH SO Green, This is my favorite color & shade in the world, the essence of health & healing…I love you…thank you…I am alive!
Thank you Ellyn! Me too!
I’m having a 2nd cup of Matcha! Yum! I just don’t get why anyone would want to add a flavor to this, it is so wonderful as is!
I’m happy to hear that you’re feeling better and can taste again! It’s a wonderful sensation when the taste buds bounce back after being sick.
This will be my final cup of the day. I’m really trying to hang in there for the end of the baseball game, but like a little kid, my eyes are drooping. We’re still leading, heading into the 7th inning…
Although the main thing I taste is the stevia I added, I can feel the ginger & a creamy texture that I love.
One of the reasons I’m not a big fan of rooibos is that some of it always seems to make it into my cup, & then it gets stuck to my tonsils. I use a finum basket, but somehow it still happens. It’s probably user error, as in I probably miss the basket a little, but I even rinse the cup out after I measured out the tea, just in case. Still, I can feel a piece of rooibos in my throat. eackck!
this is not uncommon for rooibos. You might want to try the T-sacs for rooibos as it will keep the rooibos from getting in the cup.
I’ve not had this problem, but most of my rooibos has been in tea bags.
Of course, now that I’ve said this, it will probably start happening to me too. :o)It’s been a long day. I got up early, played a bridal fair all day, & I should probably be in bed, but I’m not because of Cardinals Baseball!
In case you didn’t know, St. Louis is serious about baseball & we love our team! I’ve never actually been to a baseball game, as I don’t care much for crowds unless I’m performing, & the view is always way better from my TV screen. I also don’t watch much TV, but baseball is one exception! We’re currently leading, 6 to 4. Keeping fingers crossed…
My taste buds are gradually starting to function. My main taste is still ‘sweet’, & I’m having this ongoing obsession to eat apple slices sauteed in coconut oil with cinnamon. I’ve been eating them for a few weeks, I just can’t get enough of them! I ate some steamed broccoli & tasted it’s mild bitterness, that was very exciting! I’m thinking I might start the day tomorrow with a creamy frothy Matcha (not flavored).
Everyone in my house is drinking Elderberry like it’s going out of style. In another exciting moment, I can taste the tartness of this tea today! Yay! Things are looking up! Now if we can just win this dam game!
Me too! They were leading 6 – 0, so it’s nerve wracking now. My daughter Jess (who lives a block away & obsessively knows everything there is to know about every cardinal member, team statistics, etc) & I are texting back & forth during the game, our own personal commentary channel.
I missed the game last friday night. I was just too out of it, & they were loosing until the very end, when they suddenly took over! Even though I was in bed, I heard the fireworks go off down by the riverfront around 11pm or so & knew they had miraculouslly won. LOL
I like going to games. Used to see the Royals in KC all the time, and catch the minor league Springfield Cardinals when I lived there. Went to a Traveler’s game down in Little Rock and hoping to see the Naturals here sometime in the near future. Live games are fun. To me, televised games are kind of boring, I like the crowd interaction. Or maybe I just like the peanuts and crackerjacks.
First, my apologies for my crabby note earlier! But I also want to say that Momo would be proud of me if she saw me zipping up that right hand lane when everyone else managed to move over & there was a quarter mile open until the lane ended! That probably saved me another 15 – 20 minutes of wait time!
I drank this Tuo Cha much earlier in the day, right after my cup of english breakfast. The only word I can use to describe it was Smooth! It will show up in a future review, & I suspect that it’s a tasty one. I didn’t detect any saltiness, just a very smooth earthy feel, which is what I wanted.
One interesting aspect of being sick & not being able to taste & smell is that it brings the focus more to mouth feel, kind of like the way being blind brings the focus more to the other senses, only obviously, not really the same thing at all, but I’m sure you get the idea. In some ways, I’d like to sample some of the really awesome teas, the ones with tingly & creamy characteristics, just to see how much more noticeable they’d be. But, that’s probably just feverish folly!
As I recall, this was one of my favorite english breakfasts for awhile.
Of course, I’m not really tasting anything, but it has that tart mouth-feel, almost like cranberries. I’ll come back to it in a week or 2 & give an actual review. Meanwhile, it’s nice to have something hot to drink!
I hate driving to Illinois! I actually charge an extra $50 to play weddings on the other side of the river, because it is inevitable that all weddings in IL will start half an hour late, due to traffic problems. Today was no different. I left an hour earlier than needed, because I’d rather arrive early than late. Everything was going beautifully! I got across the Poplar street bridge, veered off to the right on I-64, & then 1 mile before my exit onto I-255 the traffic shut down from 4 lanes to 1. It took over 30 minutes to travel that one mile, & then the exit signs were so poorly marked that I almost missed them. The actual exit was a gravel road & I was convinced that I had turned wrong. Luckily I made it through, got to the winery, & things improved from there.
The wedding was fun, down in a hollow. After all the bridesmaids were in place, the bride rode down the gravel road propped up in the back seat of a glossy black ‘62 Thunderbird convertible, like she was on a parade float! The only downside of the wedding was the black walnut trees, which were dropping walnuts (like somebody throwing rocks!). I wasn’t set up under them, I know better, but I think a few people in the back row got clobbered! I took the long way home, forging a new path on a minor highway that led me back to I-255, crossing the river farther south where there was no construction, & I may go that way from now on!
