3141 Tasting Notes
This wasn’t the newest tea bag ever, but it was still pretty good. The first steep that I had in for four minutes was very strong and sour, almost to the point where I should have added sugar but I really don’t need any more sugar than I already eat! But the second steep was so weak it barely had any flavor at all. Interesting.
I’ve been trying a bunch of oolongs lately, and they are all different. That is why trying tea is so fun. This is simple, light and grassy and I really love it. It isn’t much of a floral scented or fruity oolong. It is mostly grassy and reminds me of a green tea. There is something here that makes it great, but I’m not sure what it is. Maybe I’m especially enjoying it because I didn’t drink any tea yesterday (shock!)
num num! Chai is my favorite! And wow this is good. A nice strong black tea with spices. I could be wrong, but it seems there is some of the other Butiki tea I’ve tried in this one – their roasted yerba mate? It tastes like it a bit anyway. I loved that one too. And I must say that the pre-steeped leaves of this looked like the most delicious tea I’ve ever seen! I’ve tried a bunch of Butiki teas and all of them have been fantastic. You really can’t go wrong with Butiki! I really am thankful I’ve been able to try these.
I was a little worried about this one. I had a tea with coconut the other day and I really didn’t like it. I’m actually liking it less the more I remember it. But this one is GOOD, Way way better. I think there is something about coconut in tea that I may not like as much as other tea drinkers, but I think this one is as well done as it possibly could be. A coconut scent and flavor with subtle pineapple paired with a great rooibos tea. So here is a sigh of relief from me that not all coconut teas are bad.
hmm, the rating for this tea was a lot higher BEFORE I bought this. This was another tea I thought I’d try when I stocked up on teas from LuckyVitamin. It sounded great. This isn’t bad, but it seems a bit bitter to me. It smells like coconut but the mango isn’t there in flavor or scent. All the oolongs I’ve tried are different, so I’m not sure how the flavor should be as an oolong! I’m kind of disappointed with this one.
Preparation
oh wow. I knew the steepster ratings for this one wouldn’t let me down! I just splurged on a bunch of teas over on LuckyVitamin. This was one of them, as it was $2.02 for a box of 20, it had an 80 rating at the time, and I wanted a jasmine tea. This is fantastic! It smells and tastes just like the Organic Jasmine Pearls sample I tried from Butikiteas.com, which hints at the quality because Butiki is excellent. The tea bag is PACKED. I oversteeped the second cup a bit, and it lost a bit of its flavor so definitely don’t oversteep this one. Don’t let the price fool you, this is delicious!
I’m confused. I haven’t drank much oolong but I thought they were supposed to be fruity and floral. I love the Butikiteas.com Peach Oolong. It couldn’t be any fruitier and flowery. But this one is very smoky and tastes mostly like a black tea. The scent reminded me slightly of unspiced raw pumpkin. The flavor reminds me oddly enough of the other Choice tea I’ve tried – Russian Caravan, a pine smoked black tea, which I don’t think should taste the same. I’m pretty disappointed in this one since I expected fruity and floral, but maybe I’ve already tried the best oolong (The Butiki)?
Preparation
Well, some oolongs are fruity and floral. So are some greens and whites, and even blacks. A peach oolong will definitely be fruity because it is flavored as such. This is an unflavored oolong. Flavors of the oolong tea itself, depending on the type, range from light, crisp, and clean like baozongs and pouchongs to much darker and roasty like an Ali Shan. Like any other type of tea, not all oolongs taste the same.
For some reason I thought this was a rooibos. But then realized it was a honeybush tea. That would explain why there isn’t as much flavor here. (I think honeybush teas have less flavor than rooibos teas.) I like the “honey” flavor of honeybush, but I like the woodier stronger flavor of rooibos better, most of the time. There isn’t much mango flavor here either. I bought a new infuser with a mesh/screenlike material to hold in my rooibos/honeybush teas. I can’t say it worked better.. the “leaves” are so tiny they fit through the screen! I’d like to try more Adagio teas, because this one is probably one of the weaker teas from them I could try. But I won’t give up on them yet. I wish I had the money to buy all the custom blends I created! (They are listed in my Steepster shopping list if you want to take a look.)
On a vanilla level, this fails. I don’t taste any here! It is non-existant. I basically love any teas with vanilla in them. I love the Good Earth original chai. It is the best bagged chai I’ve had (which isn’t much). And this vanilla chai is basically the same as their non-vanilla chai. I have no idea why they even say it is vanilla, when it is just going to be a disappointment. So as an actual chai, it’s good but don’t expect any vanilla here.
I’m the first to rate this? How is that possible? I splurged on some teas over on Lucky Vitamin and this was one of them. I knew it would work well! I haven’t drank matcha before, so I’m not sure how it compares. I wish there was more of a lime flavor and less of a peppermint (actually I think spearmint would have been a bit better than the peppermint as peppermint isn’t my favorite) but I can drink this the way it is. Good stuff!
