338 Tasting Notes

well ive had a crap weekend. FWP but hey. So I broke out a few favourites, like LPs peachy elixir #9, and during the height of my pissed-off-ness I dumped the whole sample of this into my gaiwan and had a long dan cong sesh.

Its nice. nice and honeyed, its slightly more cooked/oxidised/whatevs the process is that makes mi lan than another I have tried, which gives it a slightly caramel flavour to the honey. A little lychee in the background taste and honey orchid aroma combine in that magical way. Mi Lan is such a nice tea…

It lasted many steeps, I cant remember the exact number but a fair few. The slightly darker edge to this version makes it a nice one for people who like the base dan cong flavour. thick and yummy

Re-review time!

amazing what can happen in a few months. this is now a nice strong kick me out of bed shot of shou coffee I really needed. on steep three and feel awake, but solid, not so much heart racing, but eyes wide open(ish). I decided to start watching kurosawas ‘the seven samurai’ (a 3 1/2 hr epic) late last night stayed up too late while getting up at around 7am. I was groggy, and this stuff has done the trick.

If it was the LBZ i tried the other day I think I would be vibrating by now, doing three steeps in a row, but this one feels quite nice, not uncomfortable.

there isnt any bad tastes, I am kinda following a 5/5/7/10 rule. its got a nice thick soup and ohmydays i now actually crave shou puerh. chocolatey & cocoa-ey with something I cant place but its nice, this is the sort of stuff that I would like to drink a whole lot of, but alas I think its still too strong for me qi-wise. im pretty high

perfect for my friends who like a jolt in the mornings

Flavors: Chocolate, Cocoa, Coffee

How is “The Seven Samurai?” I’ve been wanting to see it for ages now!

Rasseru

I really enjoyed it :)

KiwiDelight

That movie is impressively good. Kurosawa’s other films are also good.

Rasseru

I’m just finishing ‘Ran’ which is totally brill too. And I have the one where they find a double of an emperor or lord. Can you recommend any others? I dont know what it is but his films are just so enjoyable to watch

Rasseru

started a tea & films thread for just this type of conversation

MadHatterTeaDrunk

Tea + films is quite enjoyable. I’m starting “The Seven Samurai” this weekend! I’ll let you know what I think!

Rasseru

starting is right, its so long it has a five minute intermission :D

MadHatterTeaDrunk

Five minute intermission! And I thought that 2001 a Space Odyssey was long, with a 2 minute intermission….I’ll have to prepare my Saturday with plenty of tea, water, and snacks. Ha-ha.

This is a lovely smooth sheng. Getting fruity sweetness and nice natural tasting body and aroma. It doesnt taste aged in a forced way, just mellow and lovely. I cant place the flavours very well but it is really nice.

But oh is it a strong one. ive got the jitters like I would from a coffee and that affects my enjoyment. Literally after each small cup I can feel it come on and im buzzing like a bee. I didnt get through many steeps at all today because It took me ages to get over each one. And there wasnt much leaf used either. perhaps 3-4g

Highly recommended for people who can take a stimulating qi hit ok, and have the money to spend on it.

Flavors: Apricot, Sweet

Getting a little tea drunk, eh? Ha-ha.

Rasseru

I thought it was too strong with the stimulant effect, I prefer a smoother ride with some relaxation. It was fast acting like doing a shot :)

MadHatterTeaDrunk

I know the feeling. I was drinking through a 2005 CNNP Yunnan Pu-erh the other day in between shifts, and felt incapable to drive to work!

MadHatterTeaDrunk

I’ve been stepping it back a bit and sipping on Oolong and Green teas….Getting tea drunk is something for days off. Ha-ha.

Rasseru

yeah, im an oolong & white tea man really.. but since the sheng olympics ive just been ruined by too much puerh :D

Thanks LP for making this a gift to everyone :)

I thought this was a wonderful tea, I’m getting honey & woody floral perfume. Brews a lovely amber colour, and the taste is quite deep & nicely complex. Quite a range of flavours noted from the various reviews.

Ive never had these flowers in a tea before, and pretty bad at floral spotting in tea anyway, but I liked the added dimension. Seriously thick honey sweetness going on, for fans of bees for sure :)

Literally just dumped the lot it in the cup and on my second steep now. Super sweeeeeet!! theres a hint of something cinnamon or spicy in there, but not in the same way as some dongfang meiren, not as woody either. Nice, nice I like.

I pulled the chunk out first steep in case it was too strong, left it in this time. Really dark liquor. I also like how even with this much leaf in the cup, the aroma is so strong and dreamy, while the taste hasnt got any bad flavours. That is the mark of something I can drink a lot of. Also I drank this during a break from some 2007 repave. That was sending me to sleep, this one has given me a really soft jolt. Not harsh at all – probably that aroma!

Third steep now, still a deep dark amber colour. still a lovely taste. Good stuff! Just went to have to buy one for my ex’s daughter, its her birthday soon and she would love this – and the rub? $18 shipping when the cake is only $12 :’(

Still I bought some :)

Flavors: Floral, Honey, Spicy, Wood

Glad you enjoyed this, and thanks for the order! I’m refunding you 15% to offset the shipping cost a bit. I offer 15% off first orders :-)

Rasseru

ah you didnt need to do that, something I have to deal with being in lil’ ol’ UK.

I bought one for my ex’s daughter. She is going to love this. Its a great tea :)

90+ is godly

80-90 is something i would buy again.

60-80 ok, but probably more bland or basic in their flavour.

0-60 something tastes wrong with this one.
