1113 Tasting Notes
I’ve had this kettle for almost exactly a year. I love it! The only complaint is that it doesn’t have any indicator sound to let you know it has arrived at your specified temperature. I love that it will hold it there for up to an hour though! I also really like that only metal touches the water, no plastic. Also the gooseneck makes it prettier than most electric kettles :)
Another great tea sample from Terri HarpLady! :D I’ve got the best tea friends in the world <3
This is the smokiest sheng I’ve ever had! But in a totally pleasant way. It tastes like camping somewhere exotic. Very woodsy and mysterious with a nice shengy twang :)
Weird…my note on this appears cut off midway through on my feed, but if I click edit it shows me all of what I typed. Weird glitch!
This Purple Leaf Raw has been the gateway into sheng pu’er countless times here in our shop! We’ve got so many customers turning into sheng tea heads because of the experience they have with this tea. It’s like a potato chip. You can’t have just one sip. You keep coming back for more :)
I’m so happy you are enjoying this one, my friend!
With gratitude,
Garret
Thank you so much boychik for all the tea samples!
I had to try this fresh tea first! Super smooth, sweet and vegetal, like a good fresh spring tea should be!! Very nice :)
Yeah, first flush dragonwell is way out of my price range! Good to know about the affordability of this :D
Thanks a bunch to Yang-chu and the rest of the Steepsters who went in on a big TeaUrchin order! And special thanks to mrmopar for hooking me up with the puerh group order thread :)
Trying my first sheng from the shared cakes! YAY! The leaves are slightly glossy and beautifully compressed. (All the leaves from the TeaUrchin order appear high quality to my admittedly untrained eyes.) This is an energetic, punchy young thing with pleasant astringency and slight bitterness. Slight floral undertones and just enough sweetness to balance it out. I REALLY dig this. Very happy I got to have some. I will eagerly drink the rest :D
Can’t wait to try the others!
I drank a cup of this earlier this morning. Thanks Terri!
I feel bad because I wasn’t paying attention enough to write a good note while I drank it. I wasn’t blown away but luckily I have a couple more servings to work with it…
I won’t be drinking any tea this afternoon because I got peer pressured into a fancy iced coffee beverage on my lunch break. They were buy one get one FREE and my friend wanted one…also they offered to make it for me with soy :)
Happy Friday folks!
Oh yum. Thank you Terri HarpLady!
This is super rich and fruity! Very complex. This is something I would totally drink again. Sweet stuff. There are notes that remind me of a Dancong oolong. I loves me some Dancong. It is like a cross between a Dancong and a Yunnan black! I love the lingering stone fruit taste it leaves in the back of my throat.
This is a wonderful Sheng! Thanks so much Terri HarpLady for letting me try it :D
So much going on here…where do I start? Pleasantly astringent, mineral notes, a little bit of resin or fresh cut wood, and a wonderful strong cha qi. I’m still in the midst of several steepings, so I may update this later if it morphs again. It is really opening up for me now :) It is a little grassy with a faint fruity or floral aftertaste…gah, I love sheng so much! Gives me a happy :D :D :D
I’ve been thinking about getting this one as a second kettle for months! (:
Thanks Stephanie!
Is the 1-Liter capacity large enough for pu-erh Gongfu sessions?
It is for me and my little 4oz gaiwan :) I can get like 8 or so steeps without refilling. But it heats water so quickly it is no big deal for me to refill it in between steeps, too.
Would there be any advantage to the 1.7 liter model?
I bought the 1.7L version because it was a little cheaper on Amazon. (I actually wound up being happier with the larger size.) I love it. I have learned that if I’m not paying attention I need to just make sure I hit the hold button when I’m heating up water so it’s not cooled off again before I get back to it. (Mine is at work, so this happens a lot.)
Ooohhhh, I should get one for work!
It’s wonderful having one at work. I wish I’d done it sooner.
that sounds awesome. whats the smallest amount it brews?
Hmm, I’m not sure Skysamurai. I usually just put in a little more than I think I need. I don’t usually measure!
haha ok. So like enough for one/two cups? The water kettle I have right now has a minimum of 4 cups and I just don’t drink 4 cups in one sitting …ever haha. IF this one does a minimum less then that that would be awesome
I just emptied it out and measured exactly 2 cups and it performed just as usual. Next I’ll leave just 1 cup in there and test it on the resteep!
For those who may be considering a 1.7 L model, here’s some news from the World Tea Expo:
