1113 Tasting Notes
Time for some creamy rich delicious shu! This one was from boychik. I have one more serving left. Woot. Good stuff! Just looked it up, not too expensive on ebay. Might get a little some day if I run out of my other tasty shu puerhs. Pleasantly earthy. If I am bad at picking out flavor notes in sheng I am even worse with shu, sorry!
This is a cake I would definitely not have been able to afford on my own. Luckily this was part of a group TeaUrchin order I took part in. Thanks Yang-Chu and all the other Steepsterites who let me in on it!
Anyway, this might be my new favorite sheng! gasp! I’m not sure what a rockmelon tastes like, but I do get some fruity notes, as well as floral. Great energy and a tangy sweetness. I regret that I lack the proper words to describe this one. So much flavor!
Good shengs are magical though. That’s all I know :)
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my green tea sampler from TeaVivre! It has been fun to taste each one and compare and contrast them. Thanks again Angel for the samples!
This one seems very well balanced. It has many elements but none are shouting louder than the others and throwing it off. It is sweet but vegetal, creamy, a little tangy and crisp. It has a mellow vibe about it. The aftertaste is divine. I love how it lingers on my palate.
My first experience with this tea was actually last night. I was packing some up for boychik to try, and after I’d already put everything away I found a leaf on the table. Instead of getting stuff back out or throwing it away I just popped it in my mouth, LOL. I sort of swished it around in there for a bit (the fuzz felt weird at first) and then chewed it up. It was surprisingly tasty!!! Very malty and crispy/crunchy. I don’t make a habit of eating tea leaves (except gyokuro) so it was a unique experience.
ANYWAY, just steeped up my first cup. It is sweet, creamy and lightly malty! I am not usually real big into white teas unless they are flavored but this one is very nice. I think next time I might try it with a little more leaf and see if I can coax out a flavor that is even more bold :)
im so excited! And i never tried to chew a tea leaf. my daughter likes to chew dried pasta or uncooked rice…
I guess this was my first time eating a dry leaf. When I eat gyokuro it is always after I’ve steeped and drank the tea! I was shocked how good it was, haha.
What a unique green. I’ve never seen anything like it! The leaves are huge and very dark bright green and pressed flat. The scent is crisp fresh veggies.
The liquor is extremely vegetal, slight tart cherry notes, and very little sweetness. I actually rather like this. It is a welcome change from all the buttery super sweet green teas I’ve been drinking lately. This one is different and has a lot of character!
Preparation
My favorite leafhopper tea! And I got a BUNCH of it for my birthday! :D
Tastes like rich and sweet like waffles…yum yum yum.
Preparation
I’m actually really happy I decided to place my last Butiki order…and then I stuck myself on tea buying hiatus for a while because I perhaps ordered too much. I love Butiki teas, so I have no regret over the order. I just wonder how I’m going to drink all the tea in my pantry. I now have tea on 3 shelves.
When my husband asked me for a list of possible birthday gifts I might want the first thing I did was make a Butiki list! ;) Even though I’ve never had this one I really wanted to try it.
So, on my birthday Saturday I visited a local outdoor Sculpture festival. They were giving out these clay flower pots that had been stencil painted with pretty designs, and some of them including the one I took had the phrase “The Best of All Possible Worlds” stenciled around it. I’ve sort of had the phrase stuck in my head ever since, and had to read all about the French philosopher who coined the term and everything. Anyway, this tea made me think of that. It seems to be the best of all of its elements. A black tea with a little of everything! Very satisfying!!! :) I feel the addition of Darjeeling really makes it special.
I agree, I never even browse the herbal section of tea websites. The only exception is Butiki’s Birthday Cake – I want to try it!
Is it your birthday? If so, Happy Birthday! If it’s not today, Happy Late Birthday! :)
Thanks! It was last Saturday :)
