Would it be totally pretentious to say I never drink bagged teas anymore?
Yes, yes it would….
Sleepytime is a tea I can remember my Mom making for me when I was little.
I was actually really excited to find out there were other flavors.
So I had to pick up the vanilla.

How does it compare?
I think I like it better than the original!
It’s soft and gentle, yet flavorful. It really does taste like sleepytime with added vanilla.
Wow, that was descriptive…
It seems like they really toned down the spearmint and lemongrass. So the taste is mostly chamomile and vanilla, with the others as a backdrop.
It’s nice, the flavors are harmonious, it’s really drinkable.
Actually, It’s pretty delicious….

drank Santa's Secret by DAVIDsTEA

On my most recent foray to David’s Tea I was picking up Tea for someone else. Which prompted me to do something I never do, buy black tea.
I hate black tea.
But I picked up a number of tiny sample sizes to try.
This was one of them! I bought both Santa’s Secret and Mint to be, which is the supposed year round alternative.

This tea smells amazing. Like vanilla mint black tea. It smells like yummy candy. From the smell alone I would think this would be amazing.

The taste is soft mint with with a soft candy, almost vanilla flavor. Paired with a mild sweet black tea. It’s tolerable. It’s possibly the best black tea I’ve tried, but there is no way I am going to be able to drink a whole cup.
The nice part about the mint, is it is not overwhelming. It’s is much subtler than many of David’s mint teas.
However, I suspect it would be absolutely delicious if I was a black tea drinker.

drank Coconut Grove by DAVIDsTEA
53 tasting notes

This is such a fantastic tea. It’s rich and flavorful, and endlessly drinkable.

This is the second most coconut flavoured tea I have ever come across. It smacks of coconut. I love coconut. The only one better was David’s Tea’s Spring 2013 Coconut oolong. Which was so amazing. The Oolong was more fresh coconut, and Coconut grove is more toasted coconut.
Either way, both are fantastically delicious.
Coconut grove does have a strong coconut aftertaste. the flavor is a bit like coconut cereal… (How many times can I repeat the word coconut?).
I really like it though.
I really wish David’s would add some dried cherries and call it Toasted Macaroon…. OMG that sounds amazing

Today’s first cup I brewed at the recommended 92C, steeped for 3 minutes, which was long enough to get good flavor. My next couple of cups I didn’t bother with any preciseness, and with this tea, temperature doesn’t really matter, nor time. It comes out great, with no bitterness no matter what (Well I haven’t tried dumping it straight into boiling water).

My third re-brew tasted the same as the first, shockingly it was still just as coconutty.
Yum!

This tea sounds so perfectly delicious. I love mint, I love chocolate, I love peppermint hot chocolate so much it hurts…
Sadly, the tea only really delivers on the ‘mint’ part of the promise…

I have drunk this 4 or 5 times now, and recently I drank it next to Teavana’s White chocolate peppermint.
White Chocolate frost is all mint, with the slightest hint of chocolate, and an odd greasy layer.
The Teavana version delivered much better on the chocolate.

It’s too bad. I really wanted to love this tea….

I drank this head to head with David’s Tea ‘White chocolate frost’, and surprisingly, I liked this better! The chocolate taste and creaminess are much stronger in this tea, making it more harmonious. It does taste strongly of peppermint, but not as strongly.

Overall I really enjoy this tea. The only downside, is the chocolate or something clogs my strainer, and hardens to the side of my cup. It’s gross to clean. Oh, and the oily layer on top of the tea can be offputting.

I did get 2 good steepings out of this!

drank Toasted Walnut by DAVIDsTEA
53 tasting notes

This is one tea I always have in my cupboard. It’s not the most exciting tea, but it is always good.
It’s ncie to have a flavored tea where you can actually taste the tea. So the green tea taste comes through clearly, then it is accented by a slight creamy nuttiness, and a gentle sweetness. I can’t taste the flavor of pineapple, just the sweetness it adds.

Overall it’s mildly flavored, and slightly sweet, but just quietly delicious….

drank Happy Kombucha by DAVIDsTEA

This is an Oolong for people who like black tea. I loathe black tea and I can’t get beyond that.
I can taste the pineapple and mango, and the kombucha adds an interesting note. I like kombucha somewhat, but I know some people find it gross.

This is a tea to sample, don’t buy it till you’ve tried it.
Blech….

drank Mango Lassi by DAVIDsTEA
53 tasting notes

I am not a huge fan of chamomile. I don’t actively dislike it, but I would never reach for it. But Mango Lassi seems to take all the good parts of chamolmile, and add something special. I really like this tea. The flavor is predominantly chamomile, but with a soft sweet background, almost like candy.
It makes for a sweet tasty combination.

Surprisingly the mango is not at all prominent!

drank Chai On Life by DAVIDsTEA
53 tasting notes

This is a beautiful tea. It is one of the most balanced and harmonious chai’s I have come across. The most pronounced flavor is cardamon, but it is not in any way over powering.
I can’t taste the coconut, but it does give the tea a beautiful rich mouth feel.
The black pepper is completely undetectable.

It’s rare to find a good chai that is NOT a black tea, so this tea is the perfect chai for me!

This tea has very similar flavors to Chocolate Bana’s foster, and David’s tea’s discontinued Banana Bread.
I guess my hopes were too high, this tea is BLAND and boring.
It’s red rooibos with dried bananas.
That’s it. That’s what it tastes like. There no depth, no sweetness, no complexity.
I mean, it’s drinkable….
