So all week the TV weather people have been preparing us for a major winter storm. Last night they cancelled church so no one would get hurt. I got up this morning and its in the low 30’s and raining. Raining? Apparently north of us will still get pounded but the bulk of the white stuff skirted around us. However, that is only part of the story.
Tonight the temperature is supposed to plummet and the wind pick up resulting in some of the coldest weather in 30 years: -50 F windchills. I remember last time. Our power went out and with the ice we had to stay put. We (me, wife, 2 kids, dog, couple cats, and a bird) all huddled in our bedroom and stayed safe. I am quietly hoping the weather folk miss the mark on the plus side on this as well… and the power stays on.
In acceptance, defiance, or whatever, I am having a toasted English muffin with blackberry jam, and mug of Earl Grey hot while I watch the rain. Kudos to Twinings for a string long enough to wrap around the cup handle. I hate it when the tag gets sucked under. For those who are in the storms path – stay safe.

Fingers crossed! I spent one of the worst Swedish winters of the past decade in my house in the country. Power failures at least once a week, the water froze almost daily… ugh. I remember being all alone (this is in the middle of the forest) in the pitch black night, -30 C, or something, and then having to crawl in under the house to thaw the water pipes with my blowdryer because the hot air gun had been misplaced.
(I still have that blowdryer, by the way, and it still saves me on a daily basis, albeit in other ways.)
I promise this is not one of those cheery, ‘Oh, it could be worse!’ comments, but I’m just so thrilled to be in Rome at the moment. I actually got a mosquito bite last night, that’s how balmy it is.

No, I’m faulty – I’ve never seen any SW. It’s part of a basic movie education, after all!
You must be almost the last remaining person to not see any of them. (one in a million lol) If you are ever so inclined start with the original – Episode IV A New Hope. Avoid The Phantom Menace unless or until you are a fan or you will likely not watch another.
No, thank you for your kind guidance, but they seriously bore me to death. If I want to fall asleep instantly, it’s either SW or The English Patient. I can’t explain it.
