1759 Tasting Notes
Ok well I’m glad to see it wasn’t just me!
There was something fake about the flavouring here, almost chemically. That could be age though. or the rhubarb?
It just wasn’t doing anything for me sans additions so I added some sugar and milk. That seemed to bring it to a decent level where I could definitely taste the strawberry. Also, the milk enhanced the cakey note, which was nice.
Really enjoying this tea! Not so much hot, it was much better cooled down.
Funny, it was kinda bland freshly brewed so I added some sugar to bring out flavours. Now I wish I hadn’t so I would know how it is at lukewarm without any additions. Oh well.
I really like the jam aspect, and I’m digging the rather mild cashew influence as well. With that extra dollop of sugar, it is quite jammy! I do miss Stacy. Her teas generally taste like what she intends, unlike so many others I’ve tried where you have to try so much harder and guess at other blends.
Ok then…send me a message with what you want to try. I need to go through my cupboard and update it though, do bear in mind I may not have everything there right now…still, send me a list and I’ll see what I can do for you.
I was on my way from visiting one doctor only to go visit another and felt in need of some warm liquid energy. Thus, chai!
To be honest this one had me a bit leery. Something didn’t seem quite right by scent. But I gave it a go… and well look at that, it was pretty decent! I guess I’m still suspicious of vanilla, after my few bad experiences with it in the past.
Funny, the official DT note for this tea says the ‘nilla is merely a “hint” but I say its more like a whack in the ’buds. Seriously, there was plenty to go around.
The other traditional chai spices were hangin around of course. They were pleasant enough though a little coppery overall, or that could have been how they interacted with the black base.
Also, as the tea became lukewarm, there was a distinct creamy note that emerged, layered alongside the ’nilla. Kinda like the creamy part of a vanilla infused cookie, with that certain texture. I can’t recall what brand my Babcia used to buy as a kid, but it reminded me of that, rather specifically!
Aaaannnyhow. Despite my enjoyment of this one, I can’t say its something I feel the need to have in my cupboard as it doesn’t quite fit what I was seeking as a mainstay.
Even still, I recommend trying it!
Are you a fan of any of their other chai teas? I had Saigon Chai a while ago and enjoyed it, but I’ve had terrible experiences with chai being too sweet. Was this one extra sweet at the end?
Hmmm. I didn’t find it overly sweet myself. Not like the Honeycrisp apple I mentioned earlier. I asked them to add just a few drops of agave and it was perfect for me.
There was one chai from there that I really enjoyed in the past but I can’t recall which one. I’ve been trying to remember for awhile now!
Backlog:
Aya! I thought I’d lost my sampler packet of this. It was devastating. But then I found it tucked away up behind a bigger 52Teas bag and the world was right again.
So of course I indulged in a cuppa. So much good!! All pumpkiny and spice. Noms. Feels like Autumn. Damn. I hate that I found something to love about this season besides the changing leaves. Still want my summer back…
Anyhow. This is going on my reorder list, 100%!
Edit: So I just read my review of this from 3 years ago and back then I was less in love. Go figure.
I don’t see any separate entries for the chocolate bars, people seem to be adding them to the tea itself. Odd.
Anyhow, I bought this on a whim the other day and shared it with my Goddaughter and family. Ugh. Kindof nasty, I gotta say! Both my GD and her sister gave theirs away after having a nibble and I almost didn’t bother finishing mine.
It tasted rather iffy for “chocolate” and there were little bits of twig within the bar which I presume was meant to be the tea part?
That wasn’t the worst part though! Nothing about the taste was red velvet like.
Overall, I’d rate this a 60, since if I was in one of those desperate for chocolate moods this would be a make do situation.
I actually don’t mind the tea, it’s a nice dessert cuppa despite the artificial ingredients(many of the DT ones make me feel like ick), so I won’t touch the ratings bar this time.
Yes, this seems to be the case with most of their bars. I don’t ever want to chomp down on a chunk of actual tea. Uggh.
OMGsrsly, same here. I was intrigued to see that they got into chocolate but now I’m just glad it’s another thing I don’t need to spend money on :)
I had a feeling this one would be weird as a chocolate bar. Sorry for the bad experience. Now I know to definitely not waste my money, or calorie consumption, on this.
Now I’m nervous; I’ve got the Birthday Cake and Red Velvet Bars hanging out in my pantry to review on SororiTEA Sisters at some point. I HATED the tea version of RVC so I’m super nervous about the bar :/
Roswell Strange, I personally found that the red velvet chocolate bar didn’t taste anything like red velvet and just milk chocolate, so you might be in the clear.
I agree with Kristal, it tastes a bit different but nothing like red velvet! You should be good. Just beware of the tea bits
Wow! This is cool. So many different flavours. My ‘buds are confused haha.
Hot, I could have sworn this was salted caramel. But then as it cooled, a lot of fruit notes emerged. Definitely getting peach, and I think that is lychee? Something malty as well.
Also, in some sips it tastes like what imagine caramel infused with fruit would be like. A little creamy with that perfect touch of sweetness. Oh and the peppercorn comes out in the aftertaste! What fun :)
Too bad this is another sample from my box. But you know what, I don’t mind because I’m getting to know the company better when I do eventually make an order. That and I have so much in my cupboard that I welcome the sipdown!
Hehehe. It’s like a cheater sipdown so your cupboard looks better, but it’s only one cup! (I need to get through mine too. I have a whole bunch of tea bags to try!)
Well I found my “one” apple tea. I’m kinda sad that it turned out to be from a non Canadian vendor. Darn you Cdn dollar. and shipping!
I’ve seen other notes that say it tastes artificial, and I suppose it does a little but to be honest this is the best apple tea I’ve ever had. Any of those which have no fake notes either don’t taste like apple at all or they do, just not in the way I was looking for.
I added no sugar and it was quite sweet, though not overly so like the David’s Tea version. The base is a bit astringent, which suits the “apple”-ness quite well. Definitely getting some mouth puckering!
You know, I’m a little worried about my rating. It’s the highest of the bunch. Perhaps I’m just easily swayed by unrealistic fruit flavours? Bah.
Sadly though, I only had the one bag as this was from the Lupicia sampler box I bought. Oh well. Hello goodbye wonderful!
Ah boo I just looked on their website and apple black tea isn’t there, unless they didn’t load it into the search tool though I also checked their flavoured black section.
LOL Sil, yes I should do that as well. But I waaaant…
@Keychange I know right?! uncool tea vendors, that is uncool!
@Sil that makes sense. Atleast it means I have a chance at snagging some one day!
Ugh I was killed on the exchange rate and shipping for an anniversary gift for my husband. It upped the cost of his gift by $100 :|
He loved his Shirts and undies, lol (He’s a tall and big guy and has a hard time finding shirts with the correct length). I just told him he needs to get his passport so we can go to the border next time and pick it up! (The US border is less than an hour drive, and I only have my beginner’s license so I can’t go without him).
Well fancy that, I’m easy to please today. Especially for tea types that I have qualms with. First an apple tea, and now a mate! I tip my hat to you David’s.
Makes me feel kinda speshal cuz in both my chosen teas today there was some hate on from other tea lovers around here, and yet I like’em!
I really enjoy the dry nuttiness here. It makes me happy. And you can’t really taste much mate which is great as a slow reintroduction for me haha.
Can’t say I noticed any apricot. No sugar added so maybe that would have made a difference?
Other than the smooth nutlike flavour with some mate influence I really don’t notice anything else. Oh well.
Apple flavoured candy is one of me faves. I’d say in the top three, after orange and cherry. Ok so top four, I think I do adore grape a little more. (sorry for the impromptu rhyming)
I know that sounds farish down the list but it really isn’t!
Anyhow this definitely tastes like sour apple candy with just a hint of apple peel thrown in. Heyyyyyy I bet it’d make an amazing cocktail!!! Yummm.
All of that said, there is an element of fakeness, which in this case I don’t mind so much.
Oh and minus points for barely being able to taste the tea! (83 down to 78)
" minus points for barely being able to taste the tea!" Agreed. They should have done this as a herbal in my opinion. If you cannot taste the green tea why make it a green tea :/
Exactly!! I was so disappointed to see that 40% of the fall blends are herbals. And with this one being so light on the tea part, well it might as well be 60%?! (80% since mate is technically a caffeinated herbal but I’m not concerned about that haha)
Totally agree, Indigobloom. I really only drink Greens and Herbals (and I’m pickier with greens) so I totally would have been okay with more herbals. Although, the tea of the month for October (Ginger Beer) I loved so that makes up for my lack of interest in the fall collection :)
AGH!!! I just wrote my review and now its gone. Not sure what happened. Sighs.
Here we go again. I found this to be a standard sencha only with less of a grassy note and more lingering sweetness followed by menthol. At first I wasn’t sure but then saw someone else mention it in their note so I knew I wasn’t going crazy!
Also, there was a time way back when that sencha used to make me a bit queasy. Recently I found that not to be the case, but here I feel just a bit of it. Not enough to complain or anything, just something to notice!
I had a hard time with it too, sadly.
I feel like I overleafed it but I followed the instructions. Will try a little less next time!
