I was hesitant about trying a pu’erh as soon as I saw people tossing around the word “fishy”. But it has coffee beans in it, so I had to give it a fair shake. I don’t know if it’s just a random chance of my sample, but this has way more coffee beans in it than my Espresso Yourself sample. In this case, I decided to break them up with a garlic press before steeping, which I might try with my Espresso Yourself just to give it another chance.
I quite liked this! I didn’t realize there was almond flavouring in it (yes yes, boo hiss artificial flavouring, I don’t care personally), which was a very pleasant surprise! It’s nutty, smooth, and coffee enough to scratch that itch of mine. To me, the almond makes it taste like someone spiked a very earthy coffee with just a touch of amaretto. Yum! I’ve put myself on a “no more tea until samples are gone” ultimatum, but once I’ve managed to wheedle my collection down, I’ll definitely snag some more of this!
