Today I drank Misty Peaks 2015 Loose Leaf Puerh. This tea is good. It is up to the usual standards of Misty Peaks which is to say quite high. Whoever processes the leaves does it right. There was just a little bitterness in the early infusions. There was a nice sweetness to this tea. The words apricots and stonefruits come to mind. In the end I gave this eight steeps and felt I had had enough tea. I suspect that this tea would go fifteen steeps if I wanted to push it. This is one good raw tea. I only wish that Misty Peaks made ripe tea.
Having finished my Misty Peaks I moved on to a shou. Crimson Lotus sent me a tea marked only Mystery Tea. They told me only a couple things about it. They said they felt it was too pricy for them to sell and that it was from a small batch from old Jingmai trees. In any case it is good. It is one of the best shou puerhs I have had. It had all the things that people look for in a shou puerh. It had notes of chocolate. There was a fruity taste in later steeps. It was thick and rich in the early infusions. This was a really good tea I wish I could get more of. They sent a large sample so I will have a couple more sessions with this. I wonder how expensive it would be if they sold it. I have seen Shou go for as much as $450 a kg on some sites so I wonder. Perhaps they simply felt it was too expensive to move out of their inventory with any speed.
Oh wow that sounds amazing! Glen always seems to find the most interesting shous!
I’m so glad you got a chance to try it. I was very surprised the first time I drank it. I really enjoyed it a lot. Then I had a bit of sticker shock when I inquired about the price. We haggled a while but there was no budging on price so we moved on and looked for other teas. I think we’d have to sell it for around $120 for a 357g cake. I didn’t know if the Western tea market was ready for those prices for shou puerh.
@ Crimson Lotus Tea, you could always sell samples to see if the demand was there.
I’d be hesitant to buy a cake if I hadn’t tried it, but this tea is amazing.
Well now I really wanna try it. Dang.
Same as curlygc though I probably can’t afford to buy a whole cake!
I just placed an order with Crimson Lotus (caved and bought a pot I’d been obsessing over). I sure hope he sends a sample of that shu wink wink nudge nudge nudge!
@boychik: I wish! That one was sold out. Got the 80ml bamboo. It was the last of the tiny ones. I posted in another forum begging someone else to buy it before I did b/c I’m trying to get my spending under control. It didn’t work, lol!!
i just saw it. i cannot believe you have such a strong will. i just cant do it. You are not going to regret it because its absolutely cutest gorgeous – est pot ive seen. and you know i have more than anybody needs ;D
@curlygc, if you know what they mystery sample is it won’t be a mystery right?

Today I drank a flavored shou from Whispering Pines called Art of Darkness. This is the most chocolaty shou ever. I was surprised that the cocoa nibs flavor lasted well into the tenth steep. I was expecting cocoa flavor for a few steeps only but it kept going. This is good.
You just inspired me to add cocoa nibs to the WP Huron Gold Needle shou I’m drinking. It’s actually really good!
Today I drank a cheap brick I got from Yunnan Sourcing, but a delicious cheap brick, the 2008 Xinghai Grade 7 Ripe Puerh Tea Brick. This tea had basically no bitterness to it. I didn’t notice any at all. It had a little fermentation flavor to it. I really only noticed it in the first couple of steeps and then it was not strong. I would venture to say there were some chocolate notes in there. It developed a fruity taste in later steeps. This brick was tastier than a $13 brick has a right to be. It was really good. I am tempted to buy another.
I had it couple days ago and find it delicious
I guess I have a hard time detecting any bitterness in shu. I’ve yet to try any shu Xinghai. Good report.
yup. Pretty much this. Scott’s teas were excellent this year.
Hello friends, I am so glad to see this post!
I am a Chinese guy from Xi’an city, that one of most ancient city in China. I am a truly tea lover. just recommend our friend, if you do not sure which model to choose, it is better to have some small sample at first, like little Tuo puerh, pearl dragon ball tea, they just about 10g/pc, Then decide a cake puerh. just share with every friend :)
Thanks my friend :)
I am so happy you created this post! actually this is the first post that I enter this forum, Thank you~
You are quite welcome. This place has lots of good people. We all learn from one another.
Today I delved more into my Tea Trekker order and drank a ripe tea, the 2003 Wuliang Qiao Mu Shou Puerh Brick Duo. This tea was excellent. There was just a very small amount of fermentation flavor in the first steep. It had basically cleared. It had been wet stored at some point in my opinion as I found the taste of wet wood in the first two steeps. This taste was not strong. It was sweet with little bitterness from the beginning. Can’t say I noticed chocolate in this one but I might have just missed it. It did develop a fruity flavor in the later steeps. This was a comparatively cheap at only $55 for two bricks. The option to buy just one brick wasn’t there. They are unfortunately now out of stock.
