I initially held off on opening this. I hesitated because I figured as soon as I opened the pouch, it would be gone. But that is just plain foolish. When it’s gone, it’s gone, and I’ll mourn, but why punish myself by not drinking it? And the weather has called for hot tea. I’m sure its cold wherever you are too. Maybe even colder than Fargo. I think the entire north american continent is much colder than average this week But we haven’t broken any records. And tomorrow it will get above zero. I’ll still drink hot tea though. ;)
On Monday I made a large pot to get me through my writing meeting. We are meeting online this winter. I miss seeing people face to face, but it’s so nice to not have to go out in the weather. People must have been looking at my face when I took my first sip, because Tina Holland said, “I don’t know what yo;re drinking, but I want some.” LOL She’s a coffee girl all the way, and doesn’t like tea. Maybe I’ll convert her.
This tea is so good. I’ve had a at least a cup every day this week. I seem to really enjoy the Fujian teas. I can’t even taste the vanilla (stupid nose). That’s a shame, but this tea is smooth and rich even without the vanilla. I’m am so pleased I was able to get a couple of ounces when WP sent the email advising people they had a few old favorites back in stock. I am going up to Winnipeg tomorrow and I’m bringing the second pouch of this as a hostess gift.
I thought I was out of this tea! Turns out I had enough for this cup, and I think I can squeak one more out.
Even though it was 92 today with 83% humidity, I was a bit chilly in my apartment this afternoon. (Yes, my ancient air conditioner is LOUD, but it works!) I decided to brew a cup of tea instead of drinking more coffee. Ah, heaven. I forgot how good this tea is! Smooth, sooooo smooth, and mellow, and almost sweet. I know this is a bit on the spendy side, but so worth it.
I had this one this morning along with some blueberry crescents. I saw on Pinterest where someone had put a few fresh blueberries on the pre-packaged crescent roll dough, sprinkled sugar over them, rolled them up, sprinkled more sugar over it and baked. I had blueberries, sugar and the crescent rolls, so I figured why not? They were certainly tasty.
I remembered Golden Orchid as a marvelous tea. Today it was blah. It might be that the leaf is getting old (it’s about a year old) or maybe it’s just me. I have a sinus infection and pneumonia and I’m just not feeling very well.
I’m trying to resist the urge to whine. I forced myself to go to work nearly every day last week, except Thursday, and that was the day I went to the clinic and had the chest X-Ray. Why did I force myself to go to work on Friday? What am I, a masochist? Ugh. Enough of that. I was supposed to be one of the readers in church tomorrow but I texted the coordinator and told her I probably wouldn’t make it.OK, that’s enough whining. Although this tea wasn’t as luscious as I remembered, it still was good to drink
I decided on this tea for the afternoon after I got back from the vet because I wanted something soothing and comforting.
My sweet little Dixie kitty is very sick. So sick that she has to be seen by a kitty cardiologist. An X-Ray today revealed that her heart is irregularly shaped and also in a different place than most kitties hearts are. In addition, the Xray shows a hazy shadow around her flattened heart and her white cell count is extremely high. It’s possible that she has an infection around her heart. I should be receiving a call from the vet any time now to tell me what the cardiologist thinks.
I know she’s getting the best possible care at the animal hospital, but I wish she was here so I could pet her and love her.Anyway, this tea is marvelous.
Edited to add: The vet called, Dixie’s condition is treatable. Expensive, of course, but I won’t be having her put to sleep. Suddenly, this second pot of Golden Orchid tastes even better!
Thank you! I love all my cats, but Dixie is extra special. She was rescued from a hoarding house. She’s probably inbred, and that’s the cause of her internal organs being a bit off. If I can just force these meds into her we might be able to beat this infection and give her many more years of comfortable life.
I’ve held off on trying this one for a few days. I was afraid I wouldn’t love it as much as most other people have. I do find myself enjoying it a lot. It’s smooth, which for me is a very important part of enjoying a tea. I just can’t stand bitter, sour, or astringent. This one is a little malty, a lot rich, a teensy bit sweet. I really, really wish I could smell this one. I bet it’s heavenly. I could certainly drink this all night. Wonder how many steeps I’ll get from it?
Preparation
Very nice breakfast tea. I like the subtle flavors with nothing really sharp as you drink it. I get a nice grain/bread taste with a subtle cocoa aftertaste.
Flavors: Baked Bread, Grain, Sweet

This was a free sample in my last order. It also happened to be on my wishlist, so kudos to WP! The aroma has that Keemun smoke, but also a molasses raisin sweetness. It tastes just like chocolate covered raisins. Seriously! It is so sweet, almost too sweet, and I didn’t add any sugar. The smoke is extremely subtle. This might be my favorite black tea from WP so far. :)
This is very tasty. It is definitely chocolate plus fruit to me. A darker chocolate, though the first steep is pretty sweet. The second steep is definitely dark chocolate with fruit. Even though it is lighter, it is more dry for sure. I am really glad to have this and that I tried it, though I probably won’t be breaking my neck to keep it around all the time.

I am SOOOO sick. Went to the doctor today and it turns out to be flu. Because of the asthma and diabetes, she said I need to take especially good care of myself. To drink lots of fluids and get lots of rest. Ta Da! Made this tea. I liked it better than I did the last time I had it. Still not a favorite, but certainly drinkable. The doc said herbal teas might be a better choice than black teas or (and she made a face) coffee with milk. I think she may be a tea drinker too!
Upping my rating slightly.
My third tea of the day. I have a cough that brings up yuck … Sorry. TMI. I have a cough and a sore throat, so I thought I’d try this one again. It’s still pretty good, maybe better than the last cup I brewed because I was careful to not let it steep over 4 minutes. I think I;’ll do a 2dn steep and add maple syrup to it. I bought a teeny tiny bottle of maple syrup (3 ounces, approx 100 ml) and I keep forgetting that it would probably be marvelous in tea!
Since this @*&^#! sinus infection is hanging on I decided to try the Clari Tea tonight. It’s herbal and it’s supposed to help when you’re sick. I don’t know if it helps or not, but it was good to drink. I got the ginger flavor pretty well, even with no sense of smell. I got a slightly bitter after taste, but I did brew it for quite a while, so that might have been the reason for it. This will probably not be a re-order, but I’m glad I have it.
This is really spectacular, but I can’t help but feel like it could be even more. It is thick and dessert-y, but even when shaking the bag like a loon, I can’t help but feel like the chocolate notes overpower the vanilla. As a vanilla fiend, I want more. I am not sure if it was just my bag or what, but I think this would be perfection if the vanilla were intensified.
I got two good steeps out of it. The second being much more smooth than the first, and light. I could taste the vanilla more, as a lot of the intense chocolate was tamed. Latter steeps were alright, but not as good as the first two. I will definitely plan to keep this around.
Preparation
Ahh but the idea of this one is to make it chocolaty. I use vanilla the way chocolatiers do: to accentuate the chocolate notes ;-)
Confession: While I love chocolate, I ALWAYS prefer vanilla. Literally always. I almost never pick chocolate over vanilla given the two options. Chocolate is great and all…but there is nothing like the decadence of a good vanilla. :)
The way to describe my vanilla obsession just came to me – hugs. No lie, real vanilla is basically like tastebud hugs. Like cinnamon is a fuzzy blanket. I love hugs and fuzzy blankets together too, but that is a whole different thing, haha :-D

I accidentally oversteeped this yesterday, but it turned out tasting super delicious. Unfortunately, something about it hit me wrong and I wasn’t feeling super great after.
And yesterday Vancouver had a huge hazmat situation and my house is in the affected area. And today I feel like I have strep, only I don’t – but my throat is raw and blech.
So everything negative coming together like that, all happening after I started drinking this tea at work… Well. Needless to say I won’t be hunting it down.
But! It does taste really good! The long steep brought out a lovely spiciness. I’ll have to try it with other yunnan black teas.
Preparation
The lovely Dexter sent a sample of this along to me!
There were no steeping instructions that I could find, so I searched notes and then decided… f-it. Western it is.
It’s strong. It’s nice. Sweet and smooth. Very carby. IDK that I adore it, or that the flavours are ones I’d crave all the time, but it’s nice. And she thoughtfully included something like 5 other snaily teas for me to try as well. :D
Edit: Oh, as it cools it goes sour. Weird. I’m stuffed up a bit so I can’t smell much, but the taste is definitely sour, not bitter or astringent.
Preparation
Did I not write instructions on the package? If there are company instructions on the original packaging I normally write them – if not then I don’t….. sorry….
Thank you to beelicious for sharing this tea in our recent swap! This tea isn’t something I’d normally gravitate toward, as I’m not big into herbal blends and the ingredient list looks a bit frightening (spearmint and cinnamon in the same tea?) But I needn’t have worried…it seems that Whispering Pines is incapable of selling a bad tea! This one somehow manages to be both soothing and refreshing at the same time with just a touch of warm, comforting spice. It was the perfect bedtime cup of tea!
Flavors: Cedar, Cinnamon, Spearmint
