I don’t care for any of the Rooibos teas or it’s cousins. I don’t know why, but the aftertaste just doesn’t sit well with me. My wife loves it though. This is her favorite.
This is my everyday tea. I love the Assam Gold Rain more, but I chose this for my everyday tea since it is cheaper. (I drink about a quart a day instead of coffee.) I like it strong, so I do 1.5 tsp per cup. I add sugar too, about a tsp per cup.
Preparation
I ended up having to get this tea when my local Teavana store was out of English Breakfast. I have to say, it is my favorite tea hands down now. I like a little sugar in mine and definitely drink it hot. I did try it iced once and..no not good. I found it to be very time sensitive, so don’t over steep it.
Preparation
Taken Plain.
It’s not toasty…
It’s not really nutty…
and it tastes nothing like a brulee.
This might be the worst named tea ever… wait I found it!
The only hint of flavors that resemble the name are in the initial wash of flavor. All of the middle and after taste is of fruit and spice which really reminds me of the old blend of Sweet Oolong revolution. It even has that same mildly bitter after taste. This tea is nice if a fun different way until the after taste hits and then I don’t like the flavor at all. The tail end of the flavor reminds me of when I was a kid and wanted to know what nutmeg by itself tastes like and my mouth got all drink and I felt like I needed to drink something.
So I’m going to go drink something else…
Preparation
Yeah, I saw that one last time I was in the store and was all “gimmegimme” until I looked at the ingredients and smelled it… WTH? Coconut? Pineapple? Not what I was expecting.
This tea is amazing. SOOO good! The way I brew it is different than the directions though because when I followed the directions I found that it was very weak and light and I could barely taste it. So I put the water AND the tea in the tea kettle on high heat, then when it comes to a boil it’s done. It comes out nice and flavorful that way. I also use way more tea than it says to for that amount water. :-) I like to sweeten it with either the rock sugar or raw natural sugar.
This is a solid, but light, daily drinker green. Gentle chestnut and vanilla aroma, with warm rain. Soup is an even straw gold. Flavor is satisfying, buttery and smooth, with a bit of bamboo shoot and almond. Not overly intense or complex and good for the price. My everyday cup at work.
Preparation
I had high hopes for this after trying a sample of it a Teavana store.
So I, beaming with excited tea-happiness, asked the clerk for a couple ounces of it and brought it home. Sadly, I just couldn’t replicate the strength of flavor that was present in the sample I tried. Even when using a full 3 teaspoons of leaf and letting it steep longer than normal standards (the guide on the side of the bag) would advise I still couldn’t get a comparable flavor out of it.
I’m convinced that the employees at Teavana use some kind of magic to get their sample teas to taste like they do. I’d ask them to show me but I’m scared that I’d end up in some shady back room selling my soul to a superfluously titled tea god.
In short, this tea is not worth the hefty price tag.
Preparation
ahhh the teavanna god… here’s a little bit of insight …
a friend of mine is a former store manager… she says that they used the winter white honey in the samples instead of the rock cane sugar.. but they couldn’t advertise that… and that many times they doubled to an iced tea amount of tea for the samples without watering them back down…
AND their rigs in the store only pour at a pre-boiled 208-210… there is no measured 195 or 175 in the store… they cool it down while it’s steeping so the initial water hit is much hotter that what you would do at home and it’s cooled during the steep so it doesn’t burn the leaves.
I really don’t like that they don’t follow their own instructions… and the only reason she talked to me about it is because I kept ordering cups of tea that I swore up and down were burned… so now I don’t complain… but I know I can’t trust the cups you buy there.
I hate the corporate side of that company.
I bought it because of the sample as well and it tastes nothing like the sample at home. It’s frustrating.
