What a great breakfast tea! This was the taste that I had been looking for the last few mornings, but for some reason didn’t think to try this one. I had this plain because I was having a sweet breakfast and I really enjoyed it. I think that further infusions will be given at least a bit of milk and possibly some sweetener also. …oh, and I only have a small amount left, all my great teas are running out!!
Preparation
I usually blend this tea with MateVana, but recently realized I prefer MateVana alone…which made me think that I would enjoy this alone also. My mom gave me some rock sugar, so I will try this with rock sugar and a bit of skim milk.
The dry smell of the tea reminds me of a dessert and it looks pretty neat. Unfortunately, after steeping, I smell almonds and black tea, the sweetness is gone. The tea tastes pretty good, definately has a strong almond taste which I like. I had never used rock sugar before, but I like that it adds sweetness, just not typical sugar sweetness. I believe I added a bit too much milk to my oversized mug… I will try the next infusion plain…..
Preparation
I mixed this (Rooibos Sweet Amore) with my morning mate both by Teavana. My morning mate is a staple around my house and for the past couple days I seem to be suffering with allergies (along with the rest of my household) so I thought to myself I better try to add some Rooibos into my tea so that I can see if I get any signs of allergy relief as rooibos is said to help fight allergies.
It’s actually not a bad combination of flavors but to be honest it’s not extraordinary either oh well (shrugs) at least I’ll get my rooibos in. It tastes like rooibos mixed with my morning mate. Sorry for the lack of taste description I’m stuffy and grouchy this a.m..
Preparation
My first shot at an Earl Grey came in the teavana gift set. I was disappointed as I hear everyone talk about how wonderful Earl Grey’s are and this one was hard to drink because the smell made me feel kinda nauseous not that the smell was bad. It’s that I felt like I was about to force myself to drink perfume! I didn’t finish the cup but gave it an honest shot and it is smooth but I just couldn’t get over the perfumy smell. I really wanted to like it but couldn’t get over the smell.
I Agree with the other reviews of this tea. Very tasty at the store (I think they use ALOT of german rock sugar) but made at home its not as potent. It is still good even with no sweetner added, just not as good as it is at the store.
Update: I don’t know what’s going on here. The more tea’s I drink the more I find myself not liking some of the tea’s I started out adoring? While I am new to tea this is kinda baffling to me! This tea was one of my gateway teas into the wide world of tea recently I have been drinking more and more tea and so today I decided to sit down with my old friend Samurai Chai/white Ayurvedic mix from Teavana and it seems like it has NO taste at all!! The smell the same I made it the same as I always have I don’t know what’s going on why does it lack flavor hmmm I’ll try it again in a few days and see what I think then.
Great Pu erh from Teavana, if you like the benefits of pu erh but not the fishy smell of some pu erhs you should give this one a try. Not a typical pu erh.
Update: Bumping up this rating because I love it so much. It has the earthy taste of puerh with the sweet smell and taste of strawberries. Unfortunately this was my last spoonful I will definently have to reorder.
Update No. 2: Bumping this rating down. This WAS my favorite Puerh AND Strawberry flavored tea but they decided to do an upgrade on it and now it taste to mellow like strawberries with cream. Now I’m stuck with 2 new ounces and it’s just not the same :(
Preparation
I didn’t read the description of this until after I drank it. And now I see why I thought it was just mediocre:
Rosehips AND hibiscus.
Is there a more terrifying combination in all of the land? I think not.
This was too tart and tasted like every other tropical white/green tea out there. After trying several of Teavana’s teas now, I realize that they have a big issue with subtle flavors. Maybe it’s because their teas are geared toward newbies; I don’t know. But I have yet to try a Teavana tea that isn’t screaming FRUITY (or chocolate, mostly) FLAVORRR.
Yeah…I have to very politely decline just about every single tin they open for me. I’m getting to where I’m just about ready to give this Luna Pear thing another try, possibly iced, but honestly the Teavana shopping experience for me is usually on par with going into those stores that strictly sell scented candles. You have to cull through an enormous amount of very LOUD scents just to find one that you like (though I’m notoriously afraid of ‘flavored’ tea and exceptionally picky, so that bears repeating).
I felt the same way when my parents got me a sample last holiday season, particularly with their Earl Grey Creame. The scent alone overwhelms me! However, they do make a nice little tea timer iPhone app…
yikes! i can hardly handle one or the other (rose/hibiscus) and tend to shy away from both. and i know exactly what you mean about shopping at teavana, sophistre. :P
I’m pretty picky about flavored teas, but this one is pretty good. The base tea isn’t terribly interesting (probably a Ceylon tea, which I’m never fond of), but such is the reality of many flavored teas. I drink this straight, no milk or sugar, and enjoy it for the sweet almond cookie flavor (which is light, but rather tasty).
Preparation
My issue with this tea, is that I had an amazing sample in the store, which lead to me purchasing both blends of teas in seperate containers, a measuring spoon, kettle, and so on, spent a lot of money, even on the exact sugar they use. I followed the directions on the sticker, and still can’t get it to taste anything like the in store sample. Very irritating.
Check out these recipes! http://www.teavana.com/tea-info/store-samples They use SO much tea.
I don’t mind cleaning the slots in the glass infuser with a toothbrush IF I have enjoyed the rooibus-infused liquor which passed through them. After these cups, I minded. If you must know more about my encounter with this cursed abomination, read my earlier tasting note. A blend is not necessarily better than, or even equal to, its ingredients, this being a case in point.
P.S. It’s the green rooibus. It just tastes nasty to me. Tastes so different than regular, red, fermented rooibus! After that 2nd bad experience, I put the ToLife tea in a screen colander and sifted out the rooibus. What was left was better stuff, in my book.
Preparation
Oh man scrubbing with a toothbrush is BRUTAL! I hate when that happens, especially with a low qual tea :(
Oh, it’s not that difficult, just a few swipes under running water. I just enjoy complaining. But try jamming anything else in those spaces, to clean them, and see how fast you break your glass infuser.
I’m sorry you had such a bad experience with this tea, but your mention of green rooibos as opposed to red is making me wonder if I’d have the same reaction to it. I’ve never been able to get into red rooibos, and the few rooibos teas that I haven’t minded too much have been green ones. Then again, rooibos and jasmine?!
Paper works. So does thread. I haven’t broken glass infusers while cleaning them, so if you don’t like the toothbrush, there are some alternatives.
This dry blend could be explored visually, even with a magnifying glass, for quite some time whilst trying to identify all its elements. Another of Teavana’s inspired, uncanny, or regrettable (depending, I suppose, on one’s experience with same) mixtures which goes where no tea has gone before. The worst bastardization in the orgy is the green rooibus intertwined with jasmine, which emerged onto my palate as some vegetable of questionable origin (a dumpster, perhaps?). The addition of a spot of honey to the second steep, aided by the blessed presence of white tea, managed to smooth things into a fruit and flower assemblage, albeit a plasticized one. I really wanted to like this tea, especially since I got it in a swap with a nice person. Because of that, and due to myself (and my taste buds) being dog-tired, I shall refrain from scoring this now. Tomorrow is, after all, another day.
Preparation
When I opened the bag, I thought, “Hhmmm, that certainly smells like it’s from India. This should taste interesting.” Then I tasted and was not super impressed, but still rather enjoyed it. I think it’s definitely getting better every time I drink it. I’m quite the fan now.
