An above average green tea. Definitely better than any green tea I’ve had while being out for lunch or supper (I’m looking at you Bigelow and Higgins & Burke!) For a grocery store tea, it’s pretty good! Tastes like what I imagine a green tea should taste like, strong on the plant-like flavour which I enjoy. What lost points on this one for me was the tea bag itself. I hate these plastic-y tea bags. I just don’t imagine them to be healthy or eco-friendly. The other thing I didn’t like was the metallic after-taste at the end of every sip. If it wasn’t for that, I would have given it an even higher rating. I like it but I don’t love it.

The branding for this tea is awesome. The cow is super adorable and the name is definitely attention grabbing. Once brewed, the rooibos and caramel stand out prominently as the main aroma and flavours for this amber coloured tea. The tea has a nice creaminess to it benefiting from the milk ingredients. I still prefer the Cozy Caramel Rooibos tea from Murchie’s but this is a decent alternative.

Sipdown!

I don’t celebrate Christmas, so I have never done an advent calendar. BUT. This year, Christmas Eve is also the first night of Hannukah. And I love Hannukah. And countdowns are fun. SO. I have spent the past month getting a bunch of teas to sip-downable levels so I could DIY a Hannukah countdown sipdown bonanza. As an added treat, I picked up a chocolate advent calendar from Trader Joe’s so I could have my own little tea and chocolate ritual each evening. Naturally, I had to start the event by doubling down on the chocolate with this tea.

This reminds me strongly of Andes chocolate mints. It’s just a clean, minty, creamy, chocolate brew. Yummy hot, terrible cold. Would happily drink again.

Fjellrev

You know, come to think of it, I haven’t had much luck with chocolate mint teas cold. They all seem to go wonky.

Kaylee

Hmm. I have some thin mints tea that I could experiment with. I think most chocolate teas are just better hot though.

Fjellrev

Yeah, it seems like it’s the chocolate that doesn’t translate well in cold tea. Too bad since chocolate mint works so well in ice cream and the like.

My first tea from the GCTTB ! :) Although this is a bagged tea it is full leaf and it’s in a cute, see through, pyramid shaped bag. Nice :)

I’ve had at least one other Mao Feng Green before and it’s usually more vegetal/buttery. This one, however was very floral (but without bitterness). Nonetheless, it was quite enjoyable and convenient to have today as I have 3 appointments and many chores to do (there goes my day off lol). I Loved watching the leaves unravel in the pyramid too :).

I like this one too! Excited to see what’s in the box :)

I actually think teapigs matcha is pretty good. Bit overpriced though (expected, since matcha is a premium product)

I am a fan, not bitter at all and refreshing. Tastes real?? As in it tastes like freshly picked tea/mint, which is very good

Please do not that i may have inadvertently exposed the tea by keepin it in the provided plastic bag that was frayed for over a week.
Light golden brown, lighter than the mao feng. Very light green tea nose too and abundantly toasted rice smelling. The initial flavor is of toasted rice, sweet! Followed by a very light green tea flavor with subtle body. There is a lingering taste that’s grassy and a touch astringent.

Ive had a more balanced genmaicha with a $0.20 tea. This one unfortunately is too light for me. I prefer the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf genmaicha for the price

Not your typical green tea at all. Beautiful light gold color, fresh grassy yet spicy nose. I was pleasantly surprised by the minimal astringency and the bright, fruity taste of peaches and apples. There is a light body but a lingering finish that reveals its green tea flavor. Overall a surprisingly delightful blend that will surely be a regular in my cupboard!

Flavors: Apple, Fruity, Peach

Finally got a chance to do another tea and music pairing as suggested by Roswell Strange.

Today’s song pairing is Vance Joy’s Riptide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ_1HMAGb4k . This is one I have heard before because it was played quite a bit through the summer. This definitely has the fun and upbeat summer vibe. It’s definitely a ukulele-type song that someone could play while doing outdoorsy summer activities. To me this vibe is reflected in the almost peachy element of the tea.

There is also a mellowness to the whole thing due to the singer’s smooth voice. Smooth and buttery. This is reflected in the vegetal base that has notes of buttery artichoke.

And yet, if you watch the video or listen to the words, there is something just slightly off about the song. At points its a little more intense and there is a bit of worry/talk of being taken to the dark side throughout. That to me is the whisp of smoke lingering on the top of every sip. It works in the mix and makes for something beautiful but also doesn’t entirely fit/blend and that’s what keeps things interesting.

Thank you Roswell Strange for the tea and yet another fun pairing.

Having this tea right now! Pretty good chai.
I feel like I had high expectations for Teapigs? But they’re all just average to me. Like they’re not my absolute fovourite tea brand, but they’re also not the worst (and trust me, I’ve had some teas that I just had to pour down the drain).
This tea, I appreciate it :) Prob won’t repurchase ONLY BECAUSE I want to try several other chais from different companies.

drank Jasmine Pearls by Teapigs

So I was v excited for this tea to come in the mail! I was sick a couple weeks ago and needed some peppermint tea, so I was all “What tea company have I not tried yet??” And Teapigs came to mind! Last I checked (like a year or so ago), Teapigs didn’t ship to the US. Well, they did but shipping costs were a pain. But then, I saw that they actually had the usual “spend $50 and shipping is free” deal!!! So yes. I got Teapigs and spent $50 on this, my peppermint, and a sampler pack just to get free shipping :)

This jasmine is okay?? I’m a huge fan of jasmine and so far the best jasmine I’ve ever had is David’s Butterfly Jasmine. This one seems a bit too week to my liking. An okay jasmine, but I prob wouldn’t repurchase. I’ll def try their other teas though! I have plenty more to try since I did get that sample pack :)

drank Liquorice and Peppermint by Teapigs

I got this with a big Teapigs order I received the other day. Was very excited to try it since I heard it was sweet, and since I recently cut my sugar consumption way back,I thought this could work as a treat. I did not like it hot at all. I just sort of felt like I was drinking hot toothpaste water with a funky aftertaste. I added some ice to it and it was not as horrible, but it still reminded me of diluted mouthwash. I tried some Stash liquorice tea the other day and hated it also. I’m guessing I’m not a liquorice tea person, but if you are and you like mint, then you will probably love this stuff.

Bought this the other day at Whole Foods. Thought I would try it tonight because it is caffeine free. Turns out to be a bit of a strange combination. There are two main notes, the liquorice and the peppermint. They don’t blend well. This isn’t really a terrible tea it is just not that great.

I brewed two tea bags in a 16oz mug for 5 minutes.

Preparation
Boiling 5 min, 0 sec 4 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

You needed to taste it to find that out?

Sipdown (137)!

Didn’t get nearly as much tea in today as I was hoping for, but there’s always tomorrow…

Honestly; I’m feeling really fucking “meh” about this one. I want to like it, but the pairing of peppermint and that super sugary licorice note doesn’t sit right with me. It’s far, far too sweet. Kind of happy this is a sipdown, honestly. Although I will admit that the sachets this came in were hella convenient.

Commute tea from yesterday!

Cut the steep time shorter this time around in an attempt to cut back on some of the overly sweet licorice I experienced last time; definitely was still very sweet, but not as bad as last time so I’m going to call that a win.

Thank you Scheherazade for the sample!

I like peppermint tea, but not sure if I like the liquorice paired with it? It’s very, very sweet and kind of overwhelming? I basically went through waves of “this is pretty good” to moments of “yuck, too sweet!”. I’d definitely never be able to add sugar to this one…

But overall it was decent enough; I think I’ll just need to use a shorter steep time because I think a lighter cup could be quite nice.
