Teaopia

The ingredients of this tea really intrigued me and when I opened the canister, there were long white, plastic like tendrils in it that made me wary. However, this was a pretty nice tea, it was sweet and a tiny bit grassy, reminded me of salt water taffy in flavour. A sweet white tea that’s almost like a green!

I really, really dislike saying that a tea is terrible…but this tea is terrible :( So much so that I don’t think I can bring myself to try it again to see if I’m wrong.

The second I opened the tin, I was pretty sure I was going to have a tough time with this. Dry, it smells like old herbs that have been sitting around for way too long; musty and unpleasant. I thought that maybe it’s one of those cases where something good for you doesn’t seem so good (like Buckley’s).

It wasn’t any better steeped. At that point, it smelled like old grass; kinda like when you walk through a forest and come across a patch of rotting plant matter. I was scared to take a sip.

It has a medicinal quality to it. It certainly smells worse than it tastes, but not by much. I couldn’t tell you what ingredients are so problematic for me: white tea, gingko leaves, burdock root, tulsi leaves, elderflowers, papaya leaves, bamboo leaves, echinacea leaves, dandelion leaves, chamomile, sarsaparilla root and marigold petals. All I can tell you is that I couldn’t take more than a few sips while it was hot and one more sip when cooled to confirm I didn’t like it before it went down the drain.

The other Wellness blends got better ratings. Maybe this just isn’t my cup of tea (ha, ha). I feel bad because this tin was a birthday gift from a very good friend, but there’s no way I’ll finish it.

well I finally decided to try the after having it for months. I got it really cheap, I think about $7 for the whole tin. good thing too, cause this is gross, blech!
the dry notes smell a little earth, slightly sweet, kinda chocolatey. once steeped it smells earthy, but more like dirt, than good earthy. and it pretty much tastes the same way. right at the end of the sip I get a slight touch of Graham cracker. I had like four sips and ditched the rest of my mug.

I may have steeped this a bit too long, so keep that in mind. I’ll try again later and adjust the rating as needed. Long and the short of this? I love the tail end of this tea. The initial taste makes me scrunch up me face bu the after taste that it leaves behind is a really nice nutty, creamy taste.

I prepare this tea Gongfu style. It has a rich aroma, a deep golden colour, an earthy flavour and a pleasant tartness that pervade right through to about the fifth 30-second steeping, after which the flavour appears to be completely spent, despite still producing strong colour.

Blarg! Tired and sore this morning from brazilian jiu jitsu. Always something injured and hurting – today it’s my elbow. I wanted a fun tea this morning, and this one swapped to me by Kittena looks fun!

DRY: lots of fun chunks in this one, including mini marshmallows!

STEEPED: amber coloured cup, smells caramelly and graham cracker like. The mini marshmallows sort of melted, I ate the remainder! HEHE

TASTE: Fairly light tasting, slighty nutty and a little chocolatey. Very mellow tea, not black tea tasting or white – an interesting mix. I thought it was going to be sweet, so I didn’t sweeten it at first.
Sweetened, the chocolate comes out more and I can taste the graham crust. Not tasting marshmallows.

WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: peeps who sweeten their teas! This one needs it! This tea is pretty light too, maybe a white tea drinker would appreciate.

COMMENTS: very light tea, and I thought I went a little heavy on the dry leaf! Sweetened, this was much much better as I could taste the smore, somewhat, but still very mild. I’d love a smore tea to be strong, malty and toasty!

This Indonesian (Sumatran) oolong is similar to Ti Kuan Yin. I have steeped it four times, at 60 seconds each. If steeped longer, it has a tendency to become bitter; however, astringency is never a factor. This is a fine oolong, with a taste of fresh leaves and a slightly bitter aftertaste.

I really wish that the hibiscus wasn’t in this, because other than that this is a really yummy blend. That darn hibiscus is just a wee bit over powering and drowns out the sweeter apple taste. Ah well.

Going to try this one over ice and see if that makes it less tart.

I am always a bit cautious with apple pie type teas because they always seem to have a heavy artificial apple after-note to them, but I don’t get that feeling from this one at all! The fact that it is an oolong blend really give this tea that rich oolong consistency and the apple cinnamon aspects of this combined with that yummy warm taste really make this one a winner. I am more than pleased with this and would definitely consider ordering it!

Edit: Did a second steep on this and it brewed another nice cup of tea, second steep really brings out the earthier notes of the oolong as opposed to the sweeter apple cinnamon flavors that are much more prominent in the first steep. Increased temperature and doubled the steep time for the second round. I think a third steep would be far too weak.

One of my favourite teas. I love the smoky flavour.

I tried this in the store and it tasted like sweet milk tea. The sweet milk was light but the aroma smells great. I bought this yesterday and I tried three steeps all were delicious. It’s very light but you get the milk aroma and taste. It reminds me of Japanese milk candies. I should stock up, as they are closing.

Well this is my favourite tea from teaopia and is near the top of my list for favourite teas of all time :)_I will be re-purchasing this tea :)

This tea is absolutely phenomenal. Smooth and just the perfect texture. The only downside is Teaopia (now Teavana) charges an arm and a leg for this particular tea so it’s not the “every day tea.”

This tea certainly hit the spot on a chilly afternoon (I can’t believe the weather is getting cold already!). It’s a perfect afternoon drink for those of us who are more sensitive to caffeine because it is caffeine free but the vibrant, fruity smell wakes you up. Adding a little bit of rock sugar definitely helped me keep my energy up in the home stretch at work. The smell is reminiscent of a breeze in a fragrant garden- pardon my poetic tendencies with this tea.

While this wasn’t a bad tea per say, it really doesn’t taste like pear. Just sort of a bland white tea, something I can drink, but not something that really gives me any pleasure.

Okay I need more of this tea in my life.
The first thing that you notice about the tea is the colour.
The mate produces this lovely shade of green when brewed.
Another lovely feature about this tea is the fact that there’s a great balance between the mate and the citrus; neither one overpowers the other.
Being both a fan of mate and citrus, I think I have to go pick some up next time I visit Teaopia.

I really enjoy this tea.
Even though it is called Devil’s Chocolate, the tea really doesn’t have that much chocolate flavour, it tends to be more of an underlying flavour rather than one that’s right up front.
The flavours that are immediately present are that of cloves and ginger, which are a little overpowering but are still quite nice.
Overall, a really lovely tea.

Exactly what I want in a straight black tea

Probably redundant to write a review for a tea that you can no longer buy, but I thought I’d do it anyway! Bought this tin at 75% off during their closing sale, rather happy that I did. My parents back to school present to me was that both of them had contagious colds. So, I am basing the rating of this tea on two things: how did it taste and did it actually prevent me from getting sick.

So far so good on the second criteria :) Being sick would be the last thing that I would want for frosh week/ career week! So it gets super bonus marks for managing to get me this far without some nasty cold!

On the first criteria, taste, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought that since it was first and foremost and immunity booster, it might not taste very good, but I was wrong. It has a very pleasant and smooth peppermint flavour. You don’t really taste all of the other ingredients!
