I bumped this up in rating because I gave it another fair chance. The scent is still a little boozy but its not as bad as before. That might be due to the fact that I let it sit in my cupboard in the non-airtight bag that it came in. It tastes very good this time. It tastes like a mixture of tropical fruits, more like pineapples. I love the bits of yellow flowers and dried fruits. Good tea over all. I’m glad I gave it another chance. I’ve drank this several times after.
I bought this at Teaism because of the name. I love anything African. When I got home to transfer it from the sealed bag to a tin, I was scared of the smell. It was SO strong. It reminds me of a martini… or a cosmopolitan or anything vodka mixed with fruits. I was getting a gagging reflex thinking of those days. >_<
Anyhow, I decided to give it a try. * pinches nose * Dry, the leaves are the regular ruddy needle rooibos mixed with dried fruits and bits and something thats large, leafy and yellow (perhaps the yellow plum?). Steeped, the scent is not as strong, but is still somewhat aversive. The steep was a nice red-brown color. The taste was surprisingly wonderful! It was not tart at all, and there was a gentle sweetness to it. Great fruity blend without the tartness and mouth puckering. I need to try this iced! and possibly mix with vodka someday…
Overall, this blend tasted pretty good; however, the smell!!!! ohhh the smell!
Preparation
I increased my rating of this tea. I just ran out of it today. My boyfriend and I shared it. So yummy! Its so sweet, and I have this guilt about taking in too many sweet beverages and foods! Ah but I have a sweet tooth! I can’t resist. I made it into a latte. Absolutely DELICIOUS!! I’m going to get another one day! :)
The blend is a nice bright green that is very light and slightly powdery (more like white sugar). So very sweet is right. I added 3 heaping teaspoons to my mug and added a little hot water to mix it and then poured a lot of milk to fill it. Delicious and green. Great for dessert. Teaism instructions recommend cold water. I’ll have to try it cold some day.
Wow! This is a wonderful oolong. Very tight little balls that unfurl beautifully when steeping. I’ve used the gongfu method as well as the traditional and can’t really tell the difference in flavor. Using gongfu, however does allow you to steep this tea several more times than the ordinary method.
This oolong has similarities to a milk oolong I’ve tried. The creamy aroma and taste are very pleasant.
This is without question my favorite tea!
I steep this with just under boiling water. 2:45 or so for first steep, then add a minute to each subsequent steep. Tried as many as 4 steepings, but could probably do at least one more.
Preparation
I was in the mood for oolong tea, and Teaism had a great selection! They gave me a HUGE mug full of anxi oolong tea. It had been steeped already. It smells like oolong and tastes like oolong. Yum! It has a nice taste but I can’t seem to describe it. It isn’t floral. I couldn’t finish the mug though. It was too much. It was delicious with my meal. :)
I made a large batch of this last night. I was up really late but I was craving chai tea so badly. I whipped this one over the stove! My husband and I shared it, and I put the rest in the fridge. Now, I’m drinking it cold. It is absolutely delicious! It isn’t as spicy as other chai teas that I’ve had, but I think it is because I put it in a tea bag instead of letting the loose spices float in the water. Still, it definitely filled my craving.
Also, it is weird… every time that I click on “notices”, I get an error. Is this happening to anyone else????
I can’t believe that it has been over a year that I’ve tried this tea and been to Washington DC. I brewed this Western Style. I’m feeling lazy today _. This was good. The blend smelled spicy with all the cardamom, ginger, cloves… There was a good amount of black tea mixed in as well. Good tea. I had to add sugar and milk, although this could have done without them. Great tea overall! I love chai! Next time I’ll make this over the stove.
I live near Washington DC and have heard about this place, but never been. What did you think of the locale overall? Is it worth a ride on the smelly metro? ;)
I went to the one on 8th Street since the one on Connecticut was closed when I visited last year. I loved the atmostphere at Teaism on 8th. There was a beautiful indoor pond (I think downstairs or upstairs?) and it was very relaxing. You can order food, which I did. I thought it was very good. I would definitely make a trip out there. They have a variety of teas that they sell as well.
I went to DC this weekend with my boyfriend on a whim. Before I left, I quickly researched tea shops in the area. 4 hours later driving, we arrived. We had so much fun! We tried to go to the Teaism shop on Connecticut Ave, but realized it was closed on weekends. So we walked around and did all the touristy things. Today, we went to the other Teaism restaurant. GORGEOUS! I’ll write the review in “Places”.
Anyhow, my boyfriend got chai, and it was tasty! Nice and spicy but the milk helped ease the spiciness. Great blend. I bought this amongst other teas from Teaism. YUM!
