I can’t believe how delicious this smells in the bag- I wanted to lick the package, I really did. It’s like the best toffee/caramel corn you can imagine, but when brewed it avoids being sickeningly sweet and imparts just a hint of sweetness. It’s odd, but I do still taste a bit of a ‘corn’ note to it (yes, actual corn), and am intrigued by how little the rooibos taste comes through- seems like those who like dessert teas but not rooibos could still cope with this one. Probably good with any kind of milk, although I haven’t tried it. This one doesn’t need any sweetener.
Preparation
Having no idea what rhubarb tasted like (from memory, that is), I decided this tea’s description sounded good enough to risk ordering a bag. The aroma of the tea, dry, was deliciously sweet, just a bit spicy, almost caramel-like. Brewed, it’s sweet, but not overpoweringly or sickeningly so. It’s a bit like caramel popcorn, but better than that (as even when I type that out I think it sounds gross). For once, I’m drinking a flavored rooibos with enough flavoring to warrant its lavish description. A great dessert tea.
Preparation
After 2 glasses of wine I decided I needed something nurishing so I made this chai style. 1TB leaf steeped in 8oz water for 6min then added 8oz water. Yummm! Very chocolatey and sinful. Suprisingly less bite than Mayan Chocolate Chai although it is still there. Definitely something to try if you like MCC or even if you’re looking for something w/ less of a bite.
Preparation
My 1st TeaGshwendner tea! Got this one from teaplz. =D
The raw leaf smells sooo good! Like liquid chocolate w/ just a hint of spice. I was quite shocked at the steeping time, but decided to follow it. The resulting cuppa was much more red in color than brown and the perfect combo of chocolate, chili, and black tea.
In spite of the short steeping time, the flavor is just like the scent. The chili is much less potent than in 52teas Mayan Chocolate Chai, bit it is definitely there. It rounds out the other 2 flavors and warms the mouth. So good!
Preparation
2nd infusion, 2 min 40 sec. Slightly darker liquor, more brown. Same aroma. Same flavor, but a bit less chili.
3rd infusion, 3 1/2 min. The liquor is similar to the 1st infusion only less bright. A bit lighter aroma than the last infusion, but similar taste.
Hmmm- which tea do u prefer? Mayan Chocolate or this one? Both sound very good and I have been dying to try either one…
Lori, DON’T MAKE ME PICK! MCC by a close margin, but that is NOT saying that this is ABSOLUTELY fantastic! TRY BOTH!
I got this from Teaplz, who seemed quite eager to get rid of it. We’ll see if I can understand why.
This had lumpy chunks of something mixed throughout the leaves. I’m not sure if they were bananas or walnuts… When steeped, it smells lovely. I smell bananas and chocolate, not walnuts. If this tastes as good as it smells, we will be in business. I really like bananas, so I’ve got pretty high expectations for this. However, I’ve never tried any banana flavored tea, and I’ve also never tried anything from TeaGschwendner. So… here goes nothing!
Oh, nice! All the other ratings were dauntingly low, but I like this! It’s not really bananas or walnuts, but it’s good. I actually can’t tell what I’m tasting. It’s sweet, fruity, but very subtle. If I were rating this based on how much it tastes like banana and walnuts, it would get a very low grade. However, I rate things based on overall taste. And this is good! Thanks, Teaplz!
Added a bit of almond milk and it didn’t curdle! Ok, but not great. I think this is a love/hate tea and if I drink it too much I may start to dislike it violently. Something about it is weird… maybe it’s the cinnamon/almond/orange combo is just not quite right. It could be a great tea, but the execution just doesn’t live up to the concept…
Agreeing with the weirdness here. I could be so much better, and I’m not sure why it isn’t! Dimensions are missing, I think. It tastes flat.
(arrived today from teaplz – this is my first TG tea!) Lovely orange and marzipan (almond + sugar) scent. Do I detect a hint of mint too? The leaves unfurl and are quite varied — some are almost whole. The liquor is a surprisingly bright yellow-green. Orange and almond pastry-like (buttery?) flavor is strong on first couple sips, but then seems to give way to just a slightly citrus bitterness. The tea itself isn’t bitter – just the orange is a bit. I’m also getting a strong hint of cinnamon – more the warmth than the flavor (which is fine by me).
I think I like it. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it, and I doubt I could drink it every day… but I like the combo of light, wholesome green tea with a sweet, citrusy dessert-like flavor. A dessert tea that one need not add milk and sugar to is a nice change for me. However, I am tempted to put some almond milk in my next cup – it just seems like it would enhance the flavor profile. And since it’s not dairy, the orange peel won’t cause it to curdle. hmm…. this rating may go up and I drink and experiment more.
Preparation
We’ve spent the past 24 hours being horridly American, over-eating without remorse. vegetarian Ethiopian last night (with good, thick coffee), vegetarian Chinese for lunch with completely insipid jasmine green tea (in bags?!), and Japanese for dinner tonight (sushi and tataki for me) with excellent shaded green tea (and saki). Now I am sitting on the couch, and groaning quietly to myself, and drinking decaf before rolling my fat butt into bed.
I was drinking this one last night. Now, TG has some amazing Darjeeling teas. And TG definitely does a very conscientious job with their decaffeination process. But, let’s face it; all those subtle things that make a great Darjeeling great are not going to survive being decaffeinated. They just aren’t.
This is a GREAT tea if you like to have something stronger than herbal tea in the evening. Frankly, I don’t like herbal teas at all, and after a handful of experiments with bagged decaf teas that just tasted like nothing at all, I decided to pick this one up. It helps me feel like I don’t have to compromise between a good cup and a good night’s sleep if I want real tea in the evening. But, I know I’m drinking decaf. A perfectly good cup, there’s just no sparkle here. No motivation to use wine words to talk about the flavors.
So, this is black tea from China, India and Ceylon mixed with cocoa bean’s and full sultanas. This tea has a very strong smell. It took me quite some time to get the Rum smell out of my room. The taste is okay, tastes a little bit creamy but nothing special. I like to drink this tea on cold days as it will get you warm fast.
Preparation
I’ve had a love of Amaretto/Almond flavored black teas for as long as I can remember. It’s so hard to find a good one though. This TeaGschwender tea is really really good. The almond flavor is not overpowering, but is more of a background flavor enhancing the black tea. The black tea tastes like a ceylon. It can get a little bitter if you over brew it.
Preparation
It seems the people at TeaGschwendner already have a knack for accurate descriptions of their teas so here’s a poem . . .
A gentile rainfall
through translucent garden mist.
Moss grows on a cloud.
