I bought this tea recently thinking I was getting some other Russian Caravan-type tea, but I was so incredibly delighted when I smelled the leaves and discovered that it is essentially Celestial Seasonings’ Morning Thunder tea in loose-leaf form! I grew up drinking Morning Thunder, and it is one of those teas that jogs so many memories, just by the smell alone.
I don’t re-steep this one. I think you get the best steep at about 3 – 5 minutes.
After reading some other ‘reviews,’ I’ve discovered that Lapsang Souchong is a smoky tea? I’ll have to look into that one!
The smokiness, the richness, the full flavor… I’m so thrilled with my accidental discovery!
Preparation
This delicious teas flows into a cuppa and suddenly my oh my. I sampled the Golden Dragon in a small batch with a thick walled teapot. It’s unclear tasting at first sort of malty. On second steep I did the timing right around a minute like the previous and then straight into a choicest gaiwan. The extract is mightily fermented with a twinge of mango. I’m doing additional steeps and just keeps it hot in the thermos because it has just a little insecticide maybe the stainless steel tumbler will mask. fingers crossed. Further more the Tie Guan Yin from this seller is an all around pick me up fine on any day hot or cold. And I maintain that the two of them tastes all right on additional steeps(presses) Further still there is one of Choicest Tea called Golden Dragon Yunnan Black Tea which I am reminded of every time drinking peets oolong.
Preparation
I didn’t like this tea the first time I tried it with the recommended 200 degree water and 4-5 min steep time. I found it to be a little too oversteeped for my liking. I made it again now with a lower temp and shorter steep time but with more loose tea and I like it a lot better. the taste is stronger without that gross overcooked taste that comes with excess steeping. I added a bit of sugar too.
Preparation
The unique flavor of roasted rice makes this tea so terrific. Have you ever had it? Do you like popcorn? The rice, which puffs and sometimes pops as it is being roasted, has a toasty, savory-sweet flavor a bit like popcorn. Do you think dogs’ paws have a popcorn-y fragrance? I do. There is something wonderfully comforting about the jiffy-pop, dog paw aroma of this tea and as it may be obvious, it is a favorite of mine, and has been for so long.
I received some of this in a surprise tea package from a tea friend and was very excited to try it! I love finding good caffeine-free teas to drink at night, so I am not tempted to drink heavily-caffeinated black teas right before bed. This one is pretty good, a little more lightly flavored than I was anticipating, but I can try steeping it for longer next time. It has a warm honey-like flavor that is very good and soothing, and would be ideal for a sore or scratchy throat. Thank you Serenity!!
-Standard teabag.
-Teabag smells of licorice and honey. Tea liquor aroma is of warm honey.
-Tea liquor is a medium brown color.
-Honey flavor with a floral spicy finish.
-Best with sweetener.
-Good tea. Lightly flavored, but soothing.
Preparation
I thought maybe I had a cold, because the flavor was so mild! I am thinking of doubling up on tea bags next time…
I liked the milder flavor, the honeyness of it was so good for at night. Maybe a longer steep time? I did 4 minutes and the tag said 3-5. But 2 bags would probably make it just perfect! :)
For coastal California, it is cold. The streets and the cars are iced. The Christmas tree lingers for a last couple of days. Peet’s Winter Solstice with a touch of mesquite honey… Throwing sparks of light that are nearly orange in a double walled glass. Fiery. Some lingering flavor notes of citrus and spice. Perfect for a night like this.
Preparation
Hooray! The time of year has come again, when Peet’s carries Winter Solstice (and Holiday Breakfast Blend) in their stores. While it is by no means a limited edition, it is a special edition, so it will only be sold from now until approximately the end of December. Of the half pound I just bought, we shall see how much is gone by mid-December…
The tins have a new design, this year – more of a white, whimsical theme, vaguely reminiscent of the patterns on their cups: http://d3mrtwiv4dr09z.cloudfront.net/media/catalog/product/cache/2/image/300×400/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/w/t/wts_-_500665_l_1.png
I think I liked the old, metallic blue better. Interestingly enough, one can still purchase teabags of Winter Solstice that have the blue wrapper.
