Recent Tasting Notes

The leaves have a baked, nutty and woody smell that comes through into the brewed cup. It’s fairly tannic, with a bittersweet chocolate and muscatel finish and moderate level of astringency. This doesn’t taste like first flush Darjeeling.

Not sure what I think of it. It’s quite different from the kind of Darjeeling I’d pick out when reading tasting notes and smelling dry leaves before buying.

It’s been a while since anybody has left a review for this tisane! Seems like Mountain Rose Herbs has updated the game with some fair trade, kosher and organic certifications. Added some elderflowers to the mix, too.

Picked this up from the local co-op. I rarely drink rooibos but I do get a hankering a few times per year. 1 tsp to 8oz with boiling water is perfect for one glass. This tisane is pretty good, not too rooibos-y. Soft on the vanilla and smells and tastes like a cross between vanilla pipe tobacco and apple hookah tobacco. Thirst-quenching. Not much more to say. I’ll probably restock a small amount of this once per year.

I tried this before w/ 2 1/2 heaping tsp and found it bland. This time I used 4 heaping tsp and think it’s much better. I added milk and honey. I mostly taste the chai spice and not the rooibos. I think the ginger dominates.

First time trying this tea, and it turned out pretty bitter. Second steep was better – 175 for 3 min. Try lower temp 175 and 4 g next time.

The flavor of the tea is similar to a soup broth that tastes of seaweed and popcorn. The rice adds a hot breakfast cereal flavor to the tea that adds depth to its body. It has a vegetal flavor but it’s very light and feels clean.

A short brew time keeps the flavor light in crisp and a longer time brings out the astringency. This tea has a very distinct style. It’s very interesting to notice that there’s rice brewing alongside of my tea leaves. I find the idea very novel. I tried adding a splash of cream to a cup and it only became more interesting. This peaceful and inspiring tea would brighten up any sunny winter breakfast.

So this is definitely the best tasting of the medicine teas, which explains why I ended up drinking it the most. I can’t tell that it’s had much effect on my cold, but it’s not really marketed as cold tea, more like just a general immune boost when you’re feeling run down. At least it’s been an easy way to get down hot fluids.

So I wouldn’t say this tastes good, but it doesn’t taste bad. For a medicinal / health tea, it’s not hard to get down, and supposedly it’s great as an overall immune system boost. I just wouldn’t drink it recreationally.

Since I’m not sick at the moment, though, and just drank it to try the flavor, I can’t really tell whether it’s health benefits are as amazing as claimed.

Had this at a friend’s house. I think I will always want my vanilla teas to be more vanilla, and this was no exception, but the vanilla was present and the base was pretty decent. I’ve been pretty leery of Mountain Rose’s bases after I got a green tea from them that was so powerfully astringent it made my stomach hurt. But this base was not astringent at all, so that was a nice discovery.

Fjellrev

I always want them to be more vanilla too haha.

TastetheTea

Agree. I always want more vanilla. Currently drinking a home made London Fog but I only had a little vanilla essence left D:

Sipdown. This was a pleasant herbal, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it again. It wasn’t really all that lemony, despite having tons of lemon ingredients (weird).

This is nice, but I’m surprised the other reviewers found it so lemony (though looking at all the lemony ingredients that are listed, it certainly should be). All I can think of is that lemon balm often varies in how lemony or minty it tastes, and this must be a particularly minty batch. Because mint is the strongest note here. I taste lemon, but it’s just back-up to the mint.

I’m only disappointed because I was looking forward to a super-strong lemon tea. In and of itself, the flavors are good.

This sort of got forgotten in the back of the cupboard, but I remembered it today and decided to brew some up and try whatever magical healing powers goji berries are supposed to have (I heard they were one of the trending health crazes, but I never heard what they’re supposed to actually DO). Anyway, powers aside, this is tasting really good. Nutty, buttery, and sweet.

I decided to try steeping up some goji berries, because I really love David’s Goji Pop, but I find it pretty pricey considering how much tea you need to brew a cup.

The results are nothing like Goji Pop.

Where Goji Pop is sweet-tart and fruity, this is buttery, nutty, and sweet in a baked-goods kind of way.

And despite the berries being intensely red, the brew doesn’t come anywhere close to Goji Pop’s hot pink. It is a pale brown.

So I guess Goji Pop’s flavor and color mainly come for the other ingredients: apple, hibiscus blossoms, rosehips, honeydew melon.

While the goji berries taste nothing like what I was expecting, this is still really good, and it actually reminds me of one of David’s other herbals: Forever Nuts. I love butter and nuts, so I won’t have any trouble getting this down.

Yeah, I feel like Goji Pop hardly tastes like goji berry but it’s so damn delicious anyway.

Tamarindel

Yeah, in hindsight it seems the apple and honeydew give it most of its flavor, but before I tried these goji berries, I couldn’t figure that out, probably because I hardly ever eat honeydew.

I was really craving a smoky tea this morning and decided to go with this unflavored version. My husband and I are heading out on a weekend trip today, so my brother and I decided to have some tea together before we hit the road. He had his favorite – Chroning from Gnat & Bee – while I went for this version. He downed his pretty fast, so I was left sipping on mine while I finished packing. I didn’t drink all of it but I enjoyed about half before we left. This is a good, solid favorite for me when I want a reliable smoky black tea.

I made the mistake of eating super spicy salsa and chips before drinking this so I’m not sure I tasted much. There was some smokiness, and it was a nice cup. Trying again for a second steep.

Second Steep
8 ounces water + 212 degrees + 7 minutes

A little watered down but not bad.

Works for me! I suffer from anxiety and occasional panic attacks, which sometimes strike when I should be sleeping. Zoloft at night and Xanax at the onset of a panic attack works, but I am trying to rely more on natural remedies. This tea sounded good from the Mountain Rose site’s description, so I ordered some. I used about a tablespoon and a half in my acorn teapot from Stash (not sure of the size). Drank the whole pot before I went to bed, skipped the Zoloft and felt very relaxed. Fell asleep in a timely manner, slept through most of the night, and woke up with no neck or shoulder pain, which I usually get due to waking up multiple times and stressing during the night. So far I am highly satisfied, although it took me a bit to get used to the hopp-y flavor. I enjoy a good beer, but that is not a taste I associate with bedtime.

This is a great Chai, I am especially enjoying it in the winter. I wanted this for an decaffeinated after lunch drink. A good balance of ginger, cinnamon and clove, nothing seems to be overpowering.

Great everyday green tea, and the price ain’t bad either. If you are new to green tea and want to try it, I recommend this one. It’s basic but the quality is good.
