Thank you Cavocorax for the chance to try this matcha! I had it last night mixed with a glass of cashew milk and it was delicious. The cashew milk is what stood out most tbh but the matcha imparted a nice chocolate richness to the drink and left my mouth with the smooth taste of raspberry. It was really quite lovely :)
Meh. This smelled like amazing macadamia nuts when I opened the packet – rich, nutty, sweet and buttery. But that delicious flavour doesn’t quite carry over to the flavour. It’s sort of generically nutty and grassy, with an odd burnt note. Sadly, not getting the sweet, buttery flavour of macadamias. :(
It’s drinkable but I’m not a fan.

I have a problem, and its name is Caramel MATCHAccino. Though very soon I will have a new problem – being out of Caramel MATCHAccino, which will be infinitely worse.
I’ve nearly finished my generous sample of this in two days. I have one serving left and it’s sitting on my counter, taunting me to sip it down while I pack.
This is seriously so, so delicious. I really, really should not order more tea anything, until I finish more stuff, but I may need to make an exception for this, because I want to drink it every day.
Yup. 514 give or take a few. Mostly small samples thank goodness. Which is why I’m not supposed to buy more tea.
Yeah, how many of those are from that one enormous Teabox sampler? :) I make myself feel better by not adding anything I have less than 10g of… and it’s still getting a bit out of hand…
I got a bag of this as a sample with my Red Leaf order and oh my god this is amazing. I made this cold and drank down my cup way too fast. It’s perfect – intense caramel flavour well balanced with matcha and not too sweet.
Amazing. I could drink this all the time.
I drank three of these today, back to back.
I was a little worried that the sample didn’t come in a resealable bag, because it looked fairly big, but I’m less worried now. I’m pretty sure it’ll be gone before the end of the week.
Milk, ice cubes and a scoop of this in the blender is dangerously easy. Doubly so come summer time.
This was one of the flavours I picked up when Red Leaf was clearing out some incorrectly made orders, and I’m sure glad I did. This is delicious, natural, juicy cherry flavour well balanced with the grassiness of matcha. I’m pretty sure the flavour is robust and the matcha quality is royal, though I’d have to double check.
I could drink this as a latte all day long.

Yeah, don’t do it. I’ve left myself a note to send you some samples when I put together anther package for you. That way, if you like them and want to order, you can do some reviews and get store credit to off-set some of the cost.
Awww, thanks! I’m such a sucker for things on sale… and that “oops, we messed up, wanna buy some matcha for 60% off?” page gets updated pretty regularly. Caramel popcorn… But I’m being good. The whole international shipping and horrible exchange rate thing is making it easier to resist. :)
I’ve been waiting for this red leaf order for a while now so despite the fact that I really (really) should be studying now and not writing tea reviews, I had to open up this package.
Holy smokes this tea has one potent smell. Hella strong. And I love it. All things almond/marzipan/cherry/amaretto you name it – I’ll consume it. I am not a matcha drinker by any means so I was skeptical of all these amazing reviews and kind of intimidated by matcha. (You’re scary, matcha – deal with it) .
Anyways… I made this cold and with milk as per the directions in my magic bullet and I was pleasantly surprised! Albeit the flavour wasn’t too strong for “robust” but I’d blame myself for being scared and not using enough…… Whoops.
Anyways, I’ll write a proper review (later?!) but I wanted to procrastinate document my first thoughts on it while I still had it in my hands. Yay, almondy goodness.

I thought I’d withhold the rating until I tried it cold, so that’s what I did this morning. But, nope. Still totally missing the coffee flavor. Bummer :( It’s not a bad tea as I still enjoy the base matcha, but if you want coffee flavoring look elsewhere.
Hm, kind of bummed about this one. There is basically no coffee flavor noticeable in this matcha. If I concentrate really hard on it I can just make out a bit of coffee in the aftertaste, but I may just be tricking myself into it. I almost wonder if I got sent a plain matcha by mistake.
I appreciate that RedLeaf offers multiple customization options, but I feel like a few of their base options are much too light. It’s especially a bummer that the next flavor option costs $4 more, while after that it’s only $1. It makes me feel like they should maybe charge a dollar or two more and offer better flavoring in the base options. After all why buy flavored matcha if the flavor isn’t noticeable? I would really love a coffee matcha, but if I order from them again I think I’ll pick the espresso matcha.
I just placed an order with 3 Leaf Tea, so fingers-crossed that their flavors are better. It will be great having another option for flavored matcha.
I finished off the matcha sample I got in the GCTT. This time I followed this latté recipe that I found on Red Leaf Tea’s website:
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-recipes-en/hot-matcha-latte.html#.VTXNd_nF8as
I didn’t quite have enough of the sample left to make up a tablespoon so I substitute with some plain matcha. The end result was really good – the flavour wad a bit muted, thanks to my additions and possibly the age of the sample, but I really could taste the raspberry and hint of that boozy-chocolate truffle flavour. I’v got a couple matcha samples from Red Leaf Tea kicking around so I’ll have to try out this recipe on them as well.
A small baggie of this came to me courtesy of the Great Canadian Travelling Teabox. It was great because I’ve tried a few of Red Leaf Tea’s matchas before but with shipping they’re a bit pricy for my budget so I don’t get the opportunity to try all the flavours I want.
This marks the first time ever making my own matcha latté. I got a milk frother for Christmas this year and I was eager to put it to use. This one was very much trial and error and uber unprofessional – I started with about 2 of those bamboo scoops of matcha sifted and whisked into an oz or so of 75ºC water. Then I added 8 oz of skim milk, heated in the microwave and frothed. The flavour wasn’t quite strong enough so I added another scoop and a half (-ish) of matcha and a drizzle of agave nectar. The end result wasn’t half bad – not coffee-shop quality by a long shot – but certainly drinkable. I found that I mostly got raspberry flavour from the matcha and very little chocolate, but that might be the barista’s fault. ;)
So how do the rest of you make your DYI lattés?
I’m so lazy when it comes to making lattes. I basically just mix the matcha with a little water, making a paste, add more hot water, then top it off with 2%/light cream/half and half. Don’t bother heating it up or frothing. I happened to pick up an IKEA frother a few months ago but have yet to even try it.
Sipdown (213)!
Really sad to have finished this one off, but it was the oldest matcha in my cupboard and I’ve been hoarding this last serving for far too long. The last chawan of it I decided would be best appreciated straight and hot, prepared traditionally and I’m glad I chose to do it that way because it really let me savor the flavours, and fully appreciate the experience of drinking this tea. Hopefully I’ll be able to get my hands on more of this one in the future.

This is a queued tasting note.
Drank this one cold shaken in milk back during the week I was all packed up/in the process of moving. Mostly this tasted like cinnamon and pie crust; I really craved more of the “filling” to be perfectly honest. However it was still really delightful overall even if this is one of the less consistent matcha flavours that I own.
Finished off the Goat’s Milk Ice cream today using some of this matcha. I thought I’d grabbed a tsp. but actually grabbed the 1/2 tbsp. and didn’t notice until after the matcha was added so this was really, really strong. It was great though! Best Goat’s Milk/Matcha pairing thus far, actually. The cinnamon notes in particular were super strong but well balanced from the creamy vanilla and the berry notes blended into that sort of sourness/tang that’s present in goat milk products.
Scrumptious.
I feel like I’ve had a lot of this matcha lately, what with the 20+ cupcakes I consumed this week that had this matcha infused into their frosting…
In addition to the cupcakes, however, I took the time to make this cold shaken in a timolino of cashew milk – I’ve now made so much matcha in this particular timolino that the little rubber seal thing that stops it from leaking has been permanently stained/tinted green. I should use this as an excuse to buy another timolino and dedicate this one solely to matcha…
Finally I found a matcha that not only tastes good in cashew milk but which, in fact, tastes better! It’s creamy and the cashew milk adds a nuttyness that now makes this somehow seem ‘complete’ even if I didn’t realize it wasn’t in the first place. The cinnamon and pastry/crust like element of the flavour seem more drawn out and the berry flavour isn’t drowned out/overpowered – just muted enough for the other flavours to really feel balanced.
Yes. Good. A+ matcha beverage.
