Smooth and delicious almond green tea. There is something refreshing about this tea. Almost like a mint in the background but I know my taste buds are deceiving me. Yum!
Preparation
This tea is so forgiving! I accidentally left the leaves in the water for a little longer than I intended since I was cooking! It still tastes good!
After this, I have enough leaves left for one more steeping session!
Jillian sent me a sample of this a few months ago, and it wasn’t until now that I tried it! I knew I was in for a nice treat.
Sweet almond… it reminds me of those almond cookies I used to get at a Chinese restaurant I used to go to when I was younger. I love the sweet scent of the wet leaves. It is so light and fragrant. I can’t assess the color since I made the mistake of using a dark colored cup. I noticed that this green tea had small-medium sized leaves and short stems. I could also taste the green tea distinctly, and the aftertaste was a mix of sweet almond and green tea. It is very nice. The nutty taste was enjoyable!
This was the first almond flavored green tea I’ve had. I’ve come to the conclusion that I like almond flavored green better than black tea. The combination of green tea with almond wasn’t overbearing or strong, which was nice. Good cuppa in the afternoon – yes! :)
Preparation
I got a spoonful of this particular tea from TeaEqualsBliss (I think – I have so many little samples from various people floating around).
There are bits of something green interspered with the black tea – are they green tea leaves or something different? I’m mostly getting cloves and cardamom flavours in the tea with a hint of anise maybe. It’s nice enough, but I tend to like my chais bolder and spicier. This tea is quite smooth, and there’s a hint of a “leafy green” taste to it aswell. Nice but I think I like my Tazo chai better.
Preparation
Traveling Tea Box Tea!!!!!! Very excited to be trying my first tea from Kusmi!
This tea is smelling fantastic whilst it brews! A cloud of berries around my desk!
I’m taking it with half and half and sugar.
sip, sip…I’m getting a nice tea flavor, and the fruits I’m tasting the most are redcurrant and cherry…a little raspberry…not much strawberry. It’s delicious! I’ve read that Kusmi is subtle and that is something I’m noticing and delighting in!! As it cools I’m getting more cherry. This is SUCH a nice afternoon tea. How I wish I was curled up with my book of the moment (The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova. Did you read The Historian!? I LOVED it! This is her new one!!! VERY hard to put down!!) and not sitting at my desk. What! A! Treat! My cup is now empty and I’m not even done rambling. Wow.
Preparation
I loved The Historian too! I’ll definitely have to check out her new one. I’m happy to hear it’s good, too!!
And yay for Kusmi! :)
So many great books have come out in the past 6 months or so! The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters, and The Children’s Book by AS Byatt were both phenomenal! Next on my list is this year’s Booker prize winner Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Then – Barbara Kingsolver’s new one The Lacuna. PHEW!!!
Have you read anything great recently? I’m all ears!
All those sound really interesting! I’ll definitely have to add them to my already extreeeeemely long reading list. :P
I really liked Katherine Howe’s The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. It’s a pretty easy read, but I enjoyed it a lot. It put me in the mood for historical fiction before I read The Historian. :) And I LOVED Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief. It’s young adult, but it’s soooo amazing! :)
I also loved the Book Thief!!!!! I will look for the Howe book on my next book store run :) Thank you!!
Ooh, yay. Books to add to the list. Recently, teaplz recommended The Book Thief to me and I picked it up but have yet to start it since I’m in the middle of a couple of other books at the moment.
While we’re on the subject of young adult books, I must mention that I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy. I found it to be clever, hilarious, and awesome. Sequels, too. I am impatiently awaiting the next installment.

Hahahaha, buffalo grass? WEIRD. I have yet to try Kusmi.
Ricky, have you seen the Tea & Honey Store in Grand Central? They have Les Palais De Thes, Kusmi, Rishi, Tavalon, and quite a few others, I think. Plus gourmet honey! GO NOW.
Chai teas have definitely been growing on me. I now know the specifics in which I enjoy them and try to stick to those guidelines.
I like my blander chai teas to be hot with no additives. I like my spicy chai teas (ones that are heavily spiced, very aromatic) dirty. This chai, while not being overwhelmingly spicy, I do smell some cardamom, I see a clove, and maybe a hint of ginger, does smell very strongly of licorice. Blegh. I do not like licorice, this tells me that making this chai dirty will be the way to go.
My recipe was: boiling water + German rock sugar = simple syrup, add I scoop of tea, allow to boil 30 seconds, then turn heat off (but do not remove from heat source) for 2 minutes. During the two minutes, add splash of coffee, stir. Strain mixture into glass, add milk to taste. (In this case a fair amount of milk).
While still smelling strongly of licorice, I have added enough things so that I do not mind the flavor of it. When the sugar and milk and maybe even the coffee are added to the chai, the flavors seem to marry, I can taste cardamom up front, and a gingery note in the middle, followed up by a clove flavor, all smothered in a milk base. Overall, decent.
I do prefer chai tea when it has an additional flavor added, in this case it was chai with licorice, though that did not sound or smell so pleasant it turned out to be pretty good.
Preparation
By dirty do you mean w/ coffee or w/ milk? A dirty chai (if you go to a cafe at least) means w/ espresso added, but I’m assuming you mean milk?
The second of my Kusmi splurge. :)
The first time I smelled this, I definitely got a sense of the citrus, and vanilla, and spices (the clove comes out strongly). But then I had a revelation: This tea smells like Coca-Cola! So now all I smell is Coke. :P
Brewed, it smells more like black tea with clove. Mmmm.
It kind of tastes like Coke, too, but spicier (not overly spicy, though). It’s smooth and warm. Mmm. It has a little bit of sweetness to it too, but it’s not anything overpowering. It’s not overly anything, and the flavors just work really well together. I like! :)
Since my St. Petersburg turned out a bit strong this morning with a steep time of 3 mins, I thought I’d try this at 2 to see how that would be, and it works! Yay!
Preparation
This was so yummy yesterday, I decided to have it again today!:D
Used even more leaf than yesterday, so it’s dark and coppery. Even more delicious! :)
Preparation
Hello! I just finished reading the Swan Thieves! Would you like to read it? If you would, PM me, and perhaps we can arrange a little tea sample trade as well :)
I do want to read it, but I work at Borders, and we can borrow books for free, so I’ll just borrow it from there. Thanks, though!! :) If you still want to do a tea sample trade, though, I’d be up for it!
Wow – that’s a great job perk!!! :) I’ll take a look at your cupboard, and you take a look at mine, and I’ll PM ya!
Tried this one again today with a shorter steep time. 2 mins down from 3, since it was a bit too strong with 3. Unfortunately, it wasn’t strong enough with 2, so next time, I’ll have to try 2.5 mins. :P (Or more tea!) But it was still a tasty cup! :)
In other news, I’m wondering if this snow will ever stop. o_o
Preparation
I was really excited to try this one! Kusmi’s blends all sound really unique and yummy. :) (I really wanted to get their Russians or Essentials samplers, but both are out of stock, and I’m impatient, so I bought this and Prince Vladimir, since these are the ones I wanted to try the most. :P)
The leaves smell reeeeally yummy. :) I definitely smell the bergamot, but the caramel also comes through really well. The vanilla and fruit are there too, but to a lesser degree.
Brewed, I smell black tea with a hint of caramel. Mmm.
Drinking it, I definitely taste the fruit. It’s nice! It’s not too overpowering. And I definitely taste the caramel, too. It brings some creaminess to the tea. It’s really smooth, anyway, but it just makes it even yummier. :) It did get a liiittle bit strong this time, though, so I’ll have to experiment for next time. :P But it’s great for this morning! :)
Preparation
Didn’t even see the Essentials sampler. I wish they actually offered 1oz sampler tins individually for purchase.
I know, right? 4oz is soooo much tea. :( (Not to mention expensive!) It’s a good thing I like it, lol. There are so many other Kusmi teas I want to try, too, but it’s hard when the smallest size they have is HUGE!
Likewise, luckily they are opening a store in NYC soon =] Scoreeee! Haha, I should be able to sample everything there. Just sent them a message so I’m curious as to what they will say about sampler sizes and the future.
Oh, nice!! I’ll definitely have to go once it’s open! :) And hopefully they’ll decide that sample sizes are the way to go.
Ricky – for real!?!?!!? Do you know when it’s scheduled to open?!!? I really need to plan a tea extravaganza NYC day post haste!!!
Okay, so they said they will be offering same sampler sets on the website in their store. The store is located on Third avenue & 61st Street. What else, oh yeah, they said they might offer other one ounce samplers in the near future after the store picks up some momentum.
I have a box of this at home, I ration my kusmi teas all the time… I try and get the most out of each bag, only because I don’t live near a place that sells kusmi and they are pretty much on the expensive side. Aside from that I love the taste it of the tea, I have to totally agree that it is not overpowering at all, it is the perfect amount of tea to relax and enjoy.
More mild than their Prince Vladimir tea, Kusmi’s Christmas tea is dominated by orange. The other “six” spices of the tea disappear in a pleasing way. I actually enjoy this tea better than their strongly spiced Prince Vladimir (which ironically, I think, makes a better holiday tea) but would not buy again out of personal preference.
Spicy, with heavy notes of vanilla, cloves, cinnamon and bergamot. Best when brewed for a short time. It is a good Christmas time tea. The only negative is that they come in enormous tins (4.4 oz) and after two years, I have yet to come close to finishing it but can’t bring myself to toss it out… It is still fragrant enough to be potpourri though!

I’m revisiting a lot of my old teas in an attempt to use them up before they go stale. Looking back on my old note on this tea I’m a bit surprised to find that this time I can in fact taste the red fruits that I couldn’t before. They’re subtle but similar to the grenadine flavour in a Monk’s Blend.
