Now that I’ve decided I don’t hate rooibos after all I thought it was time to try this blend because carrot cake is one of my favorite desserts. This was steeped for around 8 minutes at 208 F.
First off, this smells amazing in the cup as I am sitting here, it’s like maple heaven! With my first sip I’m getting the traditional carrot cake spices like cinnamon and maple. I am picking up on a touch of clove and ginger as well as a slight raisin element. I added soymilk to mine which definitely has upped the creaminess factor. I did not feel this needed sugar at all. The base of this tea is a honeybush/rooibos blend which works well here, I think. The aftertaste here is very “clove” which I don’t mind at all.
I did not pick up on a lot of carrot or coconut but no matter, this is pretty yummy. I would definitely drink often this as a dessert tea, as it’s a bit one the sweeter side even without added sugar. It is certainly a bonus that this tea has no sour aromas that I so often associate with rooibos.
I think I’ve discovered a new favorite vendor for herbal blends. Not a dud in the bunch so far with Fusion Tea Room, I’m excited to try the others I got!
Preparation
This is a sip down for me, I cold brewed this blend overnight and I’m enjoying it today, definitely much better than soda. Off I go to get some yoga done!
I decided to cold brew this one last night so it’s been steeping for about 18 hours in my Lupicia handy tea cooler (I have the 600 ml size). I used about 1 tsb of leaf and filtered water from the Brita.
I like the result of this! The tulsi provides quite a minty/clove note and the fruit gives it a tang, I can definitely see why Tommy describes this as bubblegum (Fruit Stripe Gum?)
A nice tisane for the afternoon, and I’m at home ready to take a nap – tulsi I hope you can do some stress busting stuff for me! See previous notes for more info…
Preparation
This is nice when you cold brew it, I tried that last night. But not so nice with a shot of Captain Morgan’s Rum added… ;-)
Heh, old song I used to listen to when I was younger called ‘El Capitan’ by OPM about Captain Morgan rum. I haven’t heard that song in years, and it’s stuck in my head now. Good song :)
It has been a long day and I thought I’d try some more tulsi before going to sleep.
This is a very pleasant blend, the papaya and orange is quite tasty and goes well with the tulsi, I think. Rosehips are not as tart as hibiscus but this is still a little on the tart side for me, I might add some sweetener next time around. I think this would make a really great iced tea so I will need to try it one of these days. I like the apple and pear flavor a little bit better than this one but this is still a great tulsi tea (i’ve had a lot of bad ones lately) so I hope Fusion Tea Room makes more of these. :)
My apologies for this short and brief note – good night Steepsterites…
I really liked this blend and I’m finishing off the rest of my sample today. I think it could have used a bit more tulsi, of course I could always add some in. I wish more tea companies would offer free shipping promotions sometimes. I know Fusion Teas shipping cost is $5.95 for me and the costs of shipping do add up over time…. of course I know that it is expensive for the company.
Anyhoo, this is a nice blend to check out!
Preparation
Free shipping really does make a difference. I don’t think anything of ordering a tea or two with free shipping, but when shipping reaches $6, I usually wait or not order at all.
Me too. Once shipping goes over $5 I am much less likely to order anything; every time Harney and Sons does one of their free shipping with $25 sales I always buy stuff!
I’m definitely more inclined to impulse buy if there’s a free shipping promotion. But I usually care more about the value of the tea than the value of the shipping. If 2 oz. of tea costs $10 and there’s free shipping, and 2 oz. of a similar tea costs $4 and shipping is $6, I’m more likely to buy the cheaper tea. Promotions end, but the cost of the tea hardly ever goes down. I don’t like to fall in love with expensive teas I can’t afford to keep around. :(
Hoooray – this is exciting! If you’ve been reading my tealog you know I’ve been having a hard time finding tulsi blends that actually taste good and this one is rockin’!
The tulsi is lending a nice herby and minty note while the apple and pear combination lends a nice fruity taste that complements the tulsi while also hiding it a bit -lol. Also I love the fact that it’s a fruity tea that’s not too tart. And no hibiscus is a definite bonus (I am just not a fan).
I will for sure be wanting more of this once my sample runs out…
Preparation
Hmmmm….. I’m surprised to see that I’m the first to review this……..
I got my very generous samples from Fusion Tea Room about a week ago and I haven’t gotten around to reviewing any of them yet (I apologize, I’ve been busy!). I’ve tried two others besides this that were EXCELLENT. I decided I wanted something citrusy and I knew that I had this waiting for me so I opened it up!
I meant to steep this for 7 and a half minutes (that’s how I usually brew herbals) but I forgot and so it went well over 10 minutes. I was a little nervous because this has quite a bit of hibiscus in it (though I must commend them because there’s a pretty equal ratio of orange rind to hibiscus) but surprisingly it didn’t get too tart! I’m not to sure that I like it as much hot and plain, however….. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good as it is, but I have two very distinct ideas on what I’d like to try with this tea. The first is obviously to make it iced (I think that would be AMAZING) and the second is to mix it with some black tea…. Maybe a Ruby Black? I think that would be amazing!
This is pretty good and I would like to thank Fusion Tea Room again for sending me this generous sample!
Preparation
I was surprised at how much I liked this one, my sample went away pretty quickly! It reminds me of a decadent Starbucks drink but without all the calories (it is good with a bit of soymilk however)
I will definitely be getting more soon along with some of the other mates to try…
Preparation
I don’t think I’m ever going to wake up today, regardless this makes a nice afternoon dessert tea/pick-me-up
Preparation
If you’re not awake by now I don’t think you will ever get there for the rest of the day…unless of course you are a night owl!
I’m really not much of a mate drinker but I ordered some other things from Fusion Tea Room so I got a sample of this to try… I’m hoping it will taste like a frappuccino or something. :)
Steeped in usual mug method at around 190F for 7 minutes. The aroma of this is very coffee like and minty. After having the first sip I am picking up lots of spearmint and mate. There is a mocha flavor here but the mint is quite prominent. I did add some soymilk to this and liked it much better that way than I did plain. As a dessert drink this is pretty yummy but it definitely needed the creamy element for me.
I do worry about mate as they say drinking large amounts of it may cause cancer… but I will have no problems finishing off this yum-a-licious sample. I do miss coffee drinks so this is a great substitute.
Now I wish I had gotten more mate from them but I got some other neat stuff… stay tuned. ;-)
Preparation
Amy, I am glad you enjoyed the sample and I wanted to correct the misconception many have about Yerba Mate and the possible cancer side effects. The traditional way to dry Yerba Mate is to smoke it. This adds carcinogens to the Mate which can cause cancer. Plus you would have to have ALOT day in and day out to make a difference. The actual leaf by itself has not ill effects and has tons of antioxidants. With that said we at the Fusion Tea Room do not have any Yerba Mate that has been smoked. So feel free to drink plenty of it :)
Awesome information, Fusion Teas! Thanks for sharing! I know I’m planning on writing about Yerba Mate sometime in the near future and this is some good information to start with. :)
I’ve done a bit of my own research and I am still skeptical. I think I’ll stick to the advice by the Mayo Clinic and others and consume it only occasionally. It was a very nice blend.
Everything in moderation is a very good way to live life. In my own research I tend to think the smoked mate is the colporate. Also the traditional way to drink it in a gourd at a high temperature and re-steeping it over and over can add to the cause. We recommend steeping our Mate at 180. As there is some questions raised about Yerba Mate we encourage everyone to do their own research and be comfortable in what they decide.
Yeah, from the stuff Missy read regarding Mate, it wasn’t the plant itself that was considered a cancer causing agent, but likely caused by the production facilities or the uber-hot temperatures that the locals drank the mate at. Which is something to worry about for tea drinkers and mate drinkers alike ;)
Side note – I think I want to try this tea. Fusion – I think it’s awesome that your website has a link to Steepster on it. Very brave move ;)
So I found this fall rooibos blend in my stash and it appears to be two years old. Eh, I’ve had older. I also discovered we own an ice shaver. Apparently for years. How could I not know this? It’s fall outside and hot in the house so… I steeped a cup and poured shaved ice over it then added milk. I should have reversed the last two but I wasn’t sure of the proportions. Rooibos in a sealed pouch survived aging just fine. It’s tasty but not slushy enough. Good idea failed attempt. Next time I’ll know.
Yeah, I know its spring not fall, but this was included with my samples and once I opened it and caught a whiff I had to have it now. Smells like gingerbread to me. This is a mix of rooibos, honeybush, sweetpotato, pumpkin, candied peanuts, ginger and some other stuff I don’t recall. I used a healthy 2tsp of ‘leaf’ for a 12oz mug and steeped in my press for 9 minutes. The brew is a muddy orange red. This smells so good.
The sip is rooibos and honeybush at the beginning, followed by ginger mixing with the other spices. At the tail of the sip and especially in the aftertaste you get the pumpkin and sweet potato. This is a delicious and awesomely aromatic rooibos blend. If you are a fan of this type ‘tea’, this one is a winner.

Preparation
Sipdown of this sample provided by Fusion Teas. Thanks! This one inspired me to plant my own tulsi plant. The clove-like flavor of the tulsi is the main taste in this one, but the fruit (papaya, apple, orange) is right there with it. It also has rosehip peel but I am not sure what it is or tastes like.
Let me know how the tulsi growing goes, I’ve been thinking about trying that. I’ve already got some peppermint and catnip going strong with other plans on the way for a full herbal tea garden. :)
It seems to be doing fine in our flower bed. I have already pinched several flowers off to dry. One place I read said to pinch the flowers off so the plant will get fuller. Another said the flowers make the best cup. I haven’t steeped it yet but it sure is aromatic. I also have chocolate mint, bergamot (orange) mint, and lemon myrtle growing. I wanted to Verbena but I thought it was to fussy for our area – then I saw it growing in the herb garden at our local state park (doh!) Considered lemon grass but it was an odd plant to look at and I wasn’t sure what to do with it. I’ll figure out a way to post the results when I steep it soon.
My peppermint is doing OK, but it just isn’t as strong as commercially-prepped dried peppermint. I don’t know if it’s just a varietal thing or if I’m doing something wrong. (Notorious plant-killer here.)
Way too much caffeine today. Switching to decaf. This is a really tasty herbal, or tisane, or tea – whatever you call it. I like clove and the taste of tulsi is similar, so liking anything with tulsi in it comes pretty easy for me. The papaya, orange, and other ingredients blend nicely to make a light refreshing sip that doesn’t add to the buzz.
Upping my rating on this one. Reached in the drawer for a different tea and accidentally came out with this tulsi tea. There is much more flavor here than I noted last time. First off I did not realize the light clove like hints come from the tulsi. Second, I first had this after drinking Super Fruit Sencha. It overwhelmed this one. This time, I had it after tasting Skippy peanut butter with honey on a cracker. I had never heard of it before – it is really good. More important it really set up my taste buds for this tisane. I think I caught the sip mostly correct last time – a fruitiness (orange & apple), followed briefly by a light tartness (rosehip), that drifts into the light clove like (but not really) goodness of the tulsi. Very lightly sweet .Also notes of cinnamon, and pepper that probably aren’t really in the mix. Excellently blended and executed. Looks like I grabbed the right bag after all.
The dry leaf smells a bit like clove to me but there is no clove listed. The ingredients are Tulsi herb, papaya pieces, apple bits, rosehip peels, orange peel, and flavor. I used 2 tsp for 12 oz of water and steeped for 7 ½ minutes. The liquor is yellow. The aroma is pleasantly fruity and mainly of orange.
The sip is a lot different than the fruity scent suggests. It is slightly tart with the interesting taste of the tulsi lifting up in mid sip. The aftertaste still seems to be lightly clove. I can pick out the orange and apple influences. I believe the tartness is probably the rosehip. What I am not certain about is the papaya. I believe it adds a touch of sweetness but this is not what I would call a sweet tea. There is just a hint.
While this is masterfully blended, which has been true of all the Fusion Teas I have tried, it is not an in your face fruit drink. It has a much more subtle and relaxed flavor. I would recommend this if you are looking for more of a laid back, not too sweet, caffeine free, sip. As with most hot drinks, I think the cooler this gets the more flavor it develops.

MMMMMMM after just one taste I couldn’t wait to jump online and rate my new favorite tea from Fusion Tea Room. The Morning Mate is absolutely delicious first thing in the morning. I think its best to add a little bit of warm milk after steeping making it a tea latte. Smooth, rich flavors coming from many different directions, cinnamon, chocolate, and the roasted mate is intense. When I want to shake things up a little I mix it with the Raspberry Mate from Fusion Tea Room. This Particular flavor (Good Morning Mate), blends very well with others and is a must have for your collection. If not, the only one for your collection. Happy steeping
Preparation
You ever get so busy sipping tea you forget to sip some teas? I have several ounces of this awesome berry flavored tea and haven’t touched it in months. This is too good to forget. I keep it separated from the rest of my tea because the flavors are so potent they pounce on everything else. But it is so good. The cup itself is not overpowering at all. I need to put a posty note on my stash reminding of this one.
How do you store your highly flavored teas?
Yesterday it was 70. Last night we had 1 1/2 inches of rain. Woke up to 35 degree weather. Only supposed to get in the 50’s today. I promised to help with solar observing at an awareness event for the proposed Indiana Space Complex and Museum. I needed tea. Filled the thermos with this fruity delight. This one of my favorite go to comfort teas. It never lets me down. The event was well attended, fun, and not as cold as I feared. There were RC planes and jets circling above us and a BBQ trailer nearby. This tea went great with pulled pork.
I thought I was finally coming to grips with this horrible week. I made a cup of this and was thoroughly enjoying it. Then the owner of the company came in and told me he had just let go one of my friends. We have worked together for over 31 years. They started with the oldest with most senority. Guess I will be next. Very sad day. Glad I had a brief moment of peace today with this cup.
That sounds slightly illegal for them to do – letting people go before they have their full investment in their retirement perhaps?
We’ve been through the “living under the guillotine” thing with my husband’s job. Hurting with you and praying.
Thanks all. I have been hearing from some of the others from the office. They are in total shock as well.

ack I hate allergies!!! the season is coming ‘round now. Let the fun begin…
I’ve heard the same about green tea as well.
