I finally opened the aluminum pouch today. My boyfriend requested for the popcorn tea for breakfast. Love it! This one is delicious! The bag is pyramidal and the leaves are a decent size. Great tea! Den’s Tea never disappoints me. I love genmaicha.
Preparation
I asked for a sample of this tea with my last order from Den’s. I was excited to try it. I am in love with the pineapple sencha and just ordered a pound of it.
The orange is nice but for some reason I was getting more of a muted orange taste not a real juicy orange taste like I was expecting. It is still nice but I think I will stick with my favorite-the pineapple sencha!
Staring my busy Saturday with this. QuiltGuppy started and has continued my love affair with this tea. I had a small sample a while back and since have tried some other cherry sencha teas. This by far is my favorite. The richness of the sencha with the light and delicate cherry flavor make it such a pleasure. The color and aroma are a spring bloom and renewal in the cup. While enjoying this, I also think of all the poor souls in Japan, who are still struggling from nature’s one-two punch of earthquake and tsunami and those who did not survive. A lot to consider in a little cup of tea…
Thanks to QuiltGuppy for sharing this, it is delicate, the cherry flavor is perfect. I would have liked a little more of the sencha, but I may go for a longer steep next time. The flavor is almost fragile, like a cherry blossom. Over all, this is very good and from the description, I see somewhat rare, available only in spring. It is also fitting, as my thoughts are with the people of Japan and the tragic circumstances they have to bear…
This tea is actually more, well, plain than I expected. There’s the taste of Japanese greens that no matter what always reminds me of pot liquor, but its not overwhelmingly bitter. No strong aftertaste, a pleasant smell and a mild flavor.
Preparation
I received this on my last order as a sample. I was really excited to try it. I love their pineapple green tea like nothing else. This blend was mellow. It was dominant orange, with their always tasty sencha. The orange was fresh smelling of the peel of the orange. If I had some mint leaves, I would of threw them in there. Makes for a great iced tea. I only rebrewed it once, and it came out with less orange.
Their pineapple blend really stole my heart and will be hard to beat. I just bought the cherry flavor, which I will probably open up today! Yay! I wouldn’t buy the orange, but it’s still nice.
Preparation
I received this as a sample with my order. I love the sencha in it. I was unsure what to think of rose. Now I know, I don’t like rose if it’s a dominant flavor. If it’s a background flavor, I can take it. But straight up rose? I can’t do it. I still gladly drank the sample. I have requested they make a coconut flavor, since their flavored sencha are all top notch.
You must LOVE rose to enjoy this tea. It’s still good.
Preparation
How can I be so blind? You know you have too many teas when you forget you have a gyokuro hiding around. I received this from Christmas as a gift from my mom. I finally found it in my green tea shelf. This has been an awesome week in tea for me. I had my first silver needle, first milk oolong, now the first gyokuro.
WOW, this tea is so beautifully green! When brewed, it just smells and LOOKS like fresh spinach. I let it cool a little, and this is truly a cup of perfection. It’s just so tasty, grassy. I really don’t feel experienced enough to give a description, it’s beyond words, too.
Preparation
I got this as a sample in my last order, interested to try this new offering from Den’s Tea, and to see what a deep deep-steamed sencha was like.
After my first two cups, I am very surprised! The description mentions an extra roasting process, and I certainly noticed it in the aroma of the dry leaf. I couldn’t figure out why it smelled so familiar and brought back memories of the first time I tried green tea (Japanese). By the second cup, which not only had the same semi-roasted aroma but a familiar sweetness, I figured it out — Houjicha!
This tea is like the perfect mix between green sencha and houjicha! It is still distinctly a green tea in appearance of leaf and liquor, and there are still elements of umami/veggies, but there is a definite roasted sweetness and aroma as well. That was quite a surprise to me and definitely enjoyable. This might not be some high-falutin’ hand-processed, high mountain, light-steamed sencha from Honyama (which I love by the way), but it is still deliciousness in a cup!
Preparation
Round two of this tea. I used Shinobicha’s recommended steep time and water temperature, which made the tea significantly less bitter. Still, I really don’t like this tea. It tastes like I’m drinking water that someone cooked greens with, which really isn’t what I’m looking for in a tea.
Preparation
This tea tastes strongly of vegetables; whether or not this is a good thing depends on the person. I say ick. It’s strong, which is something I usually like, but the smell and taste are massive turnoffs.
Preparation
I don’t know if you had just a sample, but if you used boiling water for 1 minute, that could explain why it was so strong.
Try water at 180 for 45 seconds… it still may not be your favorite with those paramters, but worth trying. I had to struggle with it for a while to get a brew that I enjoyed a lot more —only slightly vegetal, but also somewhat creamy and sweet.
This tea reminds me of spring and spring can’t come soon enough for me this year! The sencha is the dominant taste with a slight floral tone to it. I was a little nervous about the floral part because I do not like floral teas but this is very light. The cherry is a tart taste but light and balanced with the buttery green taste and floral notes. This is SPRING! I like it!!!
Preparation
Very nice aroma – it smells like freshly cut green apples. Not at all astringent, with a clean, simple flavor. Brewing suggestions on the bag note that steeping at lower temperatures brings out more of the sencha flavor, while higher temperatures bring out more of the cherry flavor. Time time try a lower temp.
The first few sips were really excellent, but as I drink more of it, I feel like I’m losing interest. Second cup is kinda meh. Definitely something you’ll want to share with friends, but don’t drink this alone.
Preparation
I got this in my first and unfortunately only (not for long!) Den’s order back in December. I set it aside for a time that felt special or when I felt ready to really focus on it.
And, well, I don’t know if tonight is either of those times but I wanted a black tea and I wanted it to be good. I had a feeling this would be.
I didn’t expect to like it this much. My palate is not very refined, to say the least. I also don’t have the vocabulary to explain what I’m tasting, but it’s wonderful. Smelling the dry tea, I expected this to come out quite strong and astringent. I’m shocked at how light and crisp and delicate it is. It’s really quite refreshing. I definitely see what others have mentioned about being able to taste its relationship to green teas. Here’s hoping Den’s makes it available for purchase!
Actually, on their facebook page, a customer asks them if they will be selling it (I guess a LOT of people have been wondering if they will). They replied that because few farmers grow black tea in Shizuoka, it is relatively expensive, but if they could find a consistent supply for a good price they would definitely consider selling it. You can read the facebook Q&A for more detail.
True to it’s name with real apple flavoring. Their flavored senchas are really tasty, this is the second one I have had from them. I like the pineapple flavored better, since I love pineapples more than apples. I have had other apple teas where they are more granny smith, this one is more sweet, like a gala or even red delicious. This is the best apple tea I have yet. It’s juicy like. Very nicely done.
If I loved apples, this would be my tea. I really would love to try a coconut or passionfruit tea from them, if they do expand their flavors.
Thank you Shinobicha for a taste of this. :)
Preparation
Hm really? I think this is smack dab between apple juice and granny smith (jolly rancher granny smith that is).
