467 Tasting Notes
First of all, a big thanks to Naylynn for sharing some of this with me even though I see she really liked it. Always hard to let go of something you really like. :) Lovely tasty black tea base, bergamot nicely balanced with some clove and cinnamon spice. Very enjoyable. Definitely enjoyable tea. For me it works well to throw in a mug and go! Some teas need a more delicate approach.

This is some good tea. Thanks to Naylynn for the sample. I was inclined to like it just because of the name:) Opening the package was another hint as to how good this was going to. Very chocolatey and smooth berries. The mate wakes me in the morning and refreshes me later in the day. Can a taste be round? That was the first word that came into my head when I tasted this. The Mate and chicory make a nice strong base with out overpowering the other flavors. The raspberry, almond and chocolate seem to fill my whole mouth with happiness. This would be one of those teas to throw in a cup/tumbler and take to work. I’d have a smile on my face all the way there:) Definitely one to add on my shopping list!

Thank you Shan Valley for supplying these at such a reasonable price. This a mild, thoughtful kind of tea. It is slightly vegetal with just a hint of citrus. For me, it’s the kind of tea I want to drink when I am sitting quietly, maybe reading or listening to music. I wouldn’t throw it in a mug to drink while driving or at work. It deserves a little more thought and appreciation.
Preparation
I have found that I really like bergamot. So it makes sense that I would really like this. As someone else said, if you don’t like bergamot , you won’t enjoy this tea. If you like bergamot, you will probably like it. I used my Breville so I have to make a minimum of 2 cups and the aroma was strong and spicy so I used one teabag for 2 cups. Terrific. Add a little sweetener and its the perfect cuppa for me.
. It is a nice full bodied tea that I will enjoy as a morning wake up cup.
And a special thanks to NayLynn for sending this to me. You are so generous.
Preparation
I had just a little of Mountain Organic Indonesian Oolong and Maharaja Chai/Samurai Chai Tea Blend so I decided to throw them together. I have a Breville which makes a minimum of 2 cups at a time. Yowzer! This is absolutely awesome. The oolong adds depth and bring out the chai spices. I can’t believe I won’t be able to have more unless I order both teas. It also seems to have lots of caffeine. Since I drank my two cups (about an hour ago) I have dusted the house, vacuumed, washed the kitchen floor and cleaned the bathrooms. I wonder what I’ll get done after the resteep? Maybe reorganize the whole kitchen, paint the living room or clean all the closets. Best motivating tea ever (at least for me)!

As we all know, everyone has different tastes. I sort of enjoyed this one. I usually take misc. teabags with me when we go out to eat. (I really don’t like most restaurant teas) I’ve had several cups over the last few weeks. Of course, one of the problems with drinking at a restaurant is that you have know idea what the temp. is and time is only vague since I’m not going to watch my phone or watch. The aroma is lovely with strong vanilla. The vanilla is a little artificial smelling and tasting. The taste is strongly vanilla with a little spicy chia underneath. For me this tea benefits from a little sweetener. I also know that I seem to like sweet teas. For the purpose of carrying it around in my purse and using it at a restaurant this is okay. Would I buy more? Unsure… but I think so. It depends what other teas are available at local grocery store. I rarely buy “good” tea in teabags, so I sort of have to make do with the cheap stuff for eating out. I am unsure about recommending this unless you do really like a strong vanilla but I do and I’ll drink what I have.
Flavors: Cinnamon, Cloves, Vanilla
Let me start by saying that I am not a huge fan of basic black teas. I tend to like fruity, flavored and spicy teas. The aroma is fresh and roasty. I also think I smell some vegetal maybe even asparagus. Interesting. The liquor is dark and looks like coffee. The first taste I had was strong and coffee like. Steepsterites who said that this would be good for people changing from coffee to tea are not wrong. I feel that this has similarities with coffee with out the astringent/bitter taste I associate with coffee. This tea is a bit astringent without being bitter. When I drink most teas I add a sweetener and I felt that I needed to try it with sweetener. I used Stevia which has no calories. I still smell and taste the hint of asparagus, as well as a nice roasty taste. The sweetened black is full bodied and tastes fresh. I wonder how much caffeine in this? I’m betting a lot. I would drink this in the morning but would be a little afraid to drink it later in the day. The bag doesn’t have any instructions for brewing, but it’s not tricky to figure out. It is a black tea after all :D

Another restaurant, another trial teabag. This is one of the teas I have been carrying in my purse for just this purpose. This tea is somewhat disappointing. Even though every item in the ingredients says organic it smelled artificial and very medicinal. Strong cinnamon taste, very little orange. Will not be purchasing this tea. Luckily all I had is the one teabag:)

Smoooooth is the first impression. The leaves are dark green and wrap-curled into small beads with tails. I don’t notice much of a smell when I open the package. After brewing 2 tsp to 8oz at 200F for 3 minutes, it has a gentle creamy taste with a perhaps a little bit of honey flavor. It has a gentle milky aftertaste. Very pleasant. This tea is silky and mellow. I like just a little bit of stevia in it. It seems to bring out the flavor a bit more. It is definitely the kind of tea you want to sit and savor. Don’t throw this in the travel mug or tumbler… it would be a waste of the tea experience that can be found in this cup. For me it’s the perfect cup to sit and enjoy while I am snowbound with another 6 inches of snow outside (again!) I’m on my fourth resteep and it remains smooth and flavorful without tasting watery. Definitely a tea I will keep in my cupboard for when I need that relaxing moment, not just a cup of tea.
Oolongs have a long tradition of health benefits (obesity, diabetes, “hardening of the arteries”, high cholesterol and to boost the immune system) and I can certainly see that just the relaxation involved in drinking this tea would by healthy for everything ☺
Preparation
Well my history with Sleepytime tea from Celestial Seasonings goes back a long, long way. Back around 1973 I started drinking Sleepytime. I drank it a lot to help sleep (obviously). Back then I didn’t use any sweetener and I got sooooo tired of Sleepytime. I have been really reluctant to try it again. So I found the Vanilla version and tried it. Hey, not bad! I added a little sweetener this time and I like it. I can see this becoming a regular evening beverage. The taste is mostly vanilla and spearmint rather than the heavy camomile I remember. I can’t say its my favorite it it will serve its purpose well.
Preparation
I was very pleasantly surprised by this version, as the straight Sleepytime now has too much spearmint for my tastes.
Ohhh.. might have to give this one a try when we run out of the regular Sleepytime. My son goes back and forth between Sleepytime and Bigelow’s Sweat Dreams.
Ohhh.. might have to give this one a try when we run out of the regular Sleepytime. My son goes back and forth between Sleepytime and Bigelow’s Sweat Dreams.I’ve been afraid to try it thinking it would change the flavor to something we wouldn’t like at all. It sounds pretty good.
:D Just have to laugh… Don’t take offense… but you wrote Sweat Dreams. It must be the first grade teacher in me! or maybe its for women who wan to see what hot flashes during menopause feels like. Ah, I remember those days. :D
I know what you mean about afraid to try a different flavor of an old standby. There is a peach Sleepytime that I don’t necessarily want to try.
Lol.. Oopsie!! I didn’t proof read my note… Guess that’s what happens when I don’t. I don’t think anyone would want to practice for hot flashes, but hey, who knows these days..?
Lol.. Oopsie!! I didn’t proof read my note… Guess that’s what happens when I don’t. I don’t think anyone would want to practice for hot flashes, but hey, who knows these days..?I don’t think I’d try the peach either. We don’t often like peach “flavor” at my house. My son saw the kids version which I believe is grape and he was intrigued. I’m not so sure about that one either, but the vanilla sounds tame enough & drowning out a bit of the chamomile wouldn’t be a bad thing. We occasionally get coupons for Celestial Seasonings & that might be a good time to try a new flavor… A tiny less invested if we don’t like it.
