408 Tasting Notes
6 months.It didn’t take me so long to buy this one… I only managed to resist 6 months before entering Mariage Frères and ask for 50 g of Sun Moon Lake at the desk.
I loved all the Sun Moon Lake teas I have tasted and in general I have a kind of passion for Taiwanese teas, blacks and Oolongs.
I however just love the poetic name of this area’s teas, it sounds so romantic.
The dry leaves are so long and include golden tips, so lovely. They smell woody and roasty.
I use a mug and an infuser and after 3 minutes steeping I can already see a so dark colour that I decide to shorten the steeping.
It’s a medium bodied black tea exactly as I love them with the typical notes of honey, fresh baked bread and candied fruits I appreciate in Taiwanese teas.
On aftertaste, there is something rough but quick, almost mineral but really this is for a short moment and adds a lot of personality t the tea.
I would say this one is a kind of cousin to Butiki’s Taiwanese Wild Mountain Black with a mineral touch.
I do really enjoy it a lot. Just sooo Yummy.

LaFleurBleue sent me some of another sun moon lake oolong and it was soooo excellent. I think I still got some leaves hoarded somewhere.
yes I had the same one from LaFleurBleue and it was excellent. Unfortunately I don’t have any left. This one is really fantastic as well but a black tea instead of Oolong.

I agree, the name is so dreamy…
This is my first chaï made as an indian chaï.
I didn’t exactly respected DF’s instructions and put the tea directly in the milk while cooking and not after it boiled.
This is really good ! I didn’t expect to manage to make a good chaï at the first attempt but here it is.
The spices are really wonderful : cardamom is really the main one but the second roles have their partition to play as well.

good on you, I love indian chai done chai style. or better I love expensive french takes on indian chai, the chai blends I get at the indian grocery stores do not compare at all.
have you ever had chandernagor? I love it crazily and curious how this one compares, seems like the same spices…
I never had Chandernagor because once I was hesitating and finally I have chosen Mandalay.

Chandernagor is lovely, my favorite classic chai. But that is one thing I like MF very much for, they have a few totally perfectly classic ultimate versions of classic things. Chandernagor is the chai for me, Casablanca is the mint green tea….
I am impressed by this Earl Grey. It’s an heavy bergamot for sure, not the sweet kind, the floral one. The tea base is strong and malty.
I steeped my pot for almost 5 minutes and it may be too long as I get an astringency, tolerable but really there.
I’ll retry with both less leaf and a shorter steep but it is a really special EG, a morning one able to wake you up quickly.
This Earl grey is not the kind of EG I imagine Miss Marples would drink with her friends.
I know you’re strong Miss Marples…but I always imagine you very classical and fragile regarding tea.

While sipping it I am thinking of Steepster, people here and tasting notes.
Since I joined Steepster 2 years ago a lot of folks here who have just “disappeared” and I was thinking of their last note. Did they know it was their last one? Did they feel sick and tired of writing notes ? Did they decide to only drink tea for themselves ? Did they have a major issue ? No chance to know the answer.
I’m feeling myself more and more lazy with my notes, saying less and less. Am I tired of teas ? I feel more like I would like to spend more time with some teas probably rather than trying news so often.

I’ve been on here for a long time now, but I have not been writing down all the teas that I have been drinking. I think I just haven’t had much time to write these days. Perhaps a bit lazy too.

I also wonder about our friends who disappear…and i think I understand what you are experiencing. Most of the time, I just want to enjoy my tea and not think about what I want to write. That’s why I don’t review much. There’s nothing wrong with spending more time with your tea, as long as you don’t forget to pop up once in a while to say hi, other wise, YOU KNOW I will give you a little poke out of concern, we cannot afford to loose you to the disappearing ones :-)
I understand how you feel, & I have been thinking lately that I have written multiple reviews on many teas, & have nothing left to say about them. Yet, I still want to drink them, I still love them. But I don’t want to be redundant.
It is easy to get caught up in the every day concerns of life :-(
I know I have less to write about here – I have less new teas, I am drinking my stash, have some definite views about where and how to spend my next tea splurges. So well, there is only so much one can talk about tea. I hope to not disappear without saying a word though (and autumn, autumn is always my tea restocking time of the year) – and madam, we absolutely must have tea together one day, in Paris or Lisbon (or Sintra, yeah that would be the place!)!

This is a delicious Milk Oolong but I am a huge fan of this type of type of teas so it may biaise a little my opinion…no it doesn’t !
Pretty pale yellow liquor so typical of milky Oolongs.
This one is less strong on milk and butter notes than several others I had and it is interesting as the flowery notes are emerging on the top with a mellow flowery texture.
It doesn’t beat my dear Theodor Milky Oolong but it is very very nice tea in a different category.

I was a little suspiscious after reading so fantastic reviews about it and other really not.
My opinion is in the middle : this is a pleasant tea with this base I don’t like but the flavours are really working for what they are. Creamy, rich blueberry. Mellow blend.
Point.
Nothing to shout on the roofs for me but it makes its job.
