Thank goodness the work day is over! i think i was turning into a zombie, because by the end of the day my brain turned to mush. It’s been pretty overwhelming lately. I started the day off right, though, with this tea! This was wayyyyyy better the second time. I could taste much more berry. I think this may turn into a tea cabinet staple! I’ve really been enjoying all the Della Terra teas I ordered. So glad I tried them out!!!

Sounds like a yummy tea to get you through the day!

In the search for an afternoon tea with no caffeine and not being in a fruity mood, I ended up trying this one again. It went pretty well with the pear cupcake I had. Yes, I’ve been eating lots of cupcakes! I can’t help but stop in to see the daily specials every weekend with my husband. We usually get 3 each ;) So…on to the tea. This time I tasted more caramel. It could have been that there were 3 pieces of caramel in the 1 1/2 teaspoon I steeped, or that I added some milk and sugar. Still, rooibos was the dominant flavor. I really would like to find a sweetly flavored rooibos without fruit, where the named flavor is more dominant the rooibos. Any recommendations?

drank Banana Dream Pie by DAVIDsTEA

Drank this in order to get rid of the taste of professor grey tea, which was a complete fail for me this morning. Hadn’t tried this one with the proper steeping equipment (kettle, not office microwave) until this morning, and it was okay. I still don’t think I like banana teas. It won’t be a problem to finish off the bag, but I won’t be restocking this one. It helped me with the professor grey taste, but I keep thinking I’m smelling that tea. It’s haunting me!

Okay, so I don’t know what happened with this tea. When I smelled the dry leaves, they smelled kinda funny, not really like earl grey or chocolate. I thought it would change when steeped, but the smell got stronger instead. It smells like smoke. I’m not sure what kind of smoke, but smoke nonetheless, and not in a good way. I could not really taste any bergamot or chocolate. I thought maybe it would get better as it cooled, but as I kept sipping, I decided I hated it and dumped out my cup. I have never dumped out my cup before! I feel so bad, because I love the other Della Terra Teas I got, but I guess this one isn’t for me. I really tried!

I kind of felt that way about this one too. I was so excited because it’s such a unique and fun spin on Earl Grey, maybe they will alter it sometime and try again!

Tealizzy

I was pretty disappointed. Glad I’m not the only one!

Kittenna

Hmm, I have a sample of this one. Suddenly less excited to try it…

Tealizzy

Kittenna – I’m totally curious to see what you think!

drank Forever Nuts by DAVIDsTEA

Needed to get the strong onion taste out of my mouth last night after dinner. I think I overdid it with the onion in the salad. Anyway, brewed some of this up to eat with a chocolate coconut cupcake. It went nicely with the cupcake, but didn’t do much to get out the onion taste. Probably needed something stronger for that. I still don’t taste the nuts here, and can’t really get over the fact that it tastes like I’m drinking cereal as a tea. Weird. Probably will finish the bag, but not gonna stock this one in the future,

drank S'mores by Della Terra Teas

Yum! This tastes just like s’mores! I could taste the marshmallow, the graham cracker, the chocolate, and even a bit of smoke! The chocolate was a little less pronounced than I would have liked, but overall, this was delicious. I’ll be buying more!!

This was a good “first thing in the morning” tea, when you don’t want anything overly sweet. The black tea was the dominant flavor, but was accented by a slight blackberry flavor. The berry wasn’t overpowering and not too sweet. I think I would have liked the berry flavor to pop more than it did, but I still enjoyed it.

Got this one as a sample in my order. I haven’t delved into green tea much and usually only enjoy it paired with food, but this one might just change my mind. True to its description, it tastes like strawberries and cream. The strawberry is both sweet and tart. It smells divine! The second steep was pretty good too. Delicious!

drank Grand Amour by Nina's Paris

This is absolutely delightful! Thank you, Laurent, for this sample! Like ashmanra said, the black tea base is silky smooth. The raspberry, red current, caramel, and vanilla meld together to make a delicious fruity and creamy dessert tea. I think it would be amazing as an afternoon tea with a scone. Nothing gets better than that! :)

Edit: steeped it twice and it was just as good the second time!

The hardest part about choosing a tea to drink this evening wasn’t that I had too many to choose from, but that I couldn’t have any of my new black teas! So, caffeine free, I chose this one, which is odd, because I wasn’t sure the first time I drank it that I really liked a tea that tastes like red hots. For some reason, tonight, I was really in the mood for a tea with some punch, and this hot cinnamon tea was it! This time I also got more citrus notes. I think the verdict is still out on this one.

Profile

Bio

Another profile facelift! My tastes have changed a lot from when I first discovered loose leaf tea.

I can trace my tea journey back to October 2012, when I discovered DavidsTea. Before that, I had the occasional cup and enjoyed high tea at An Afternoon to Remember, which has since closed.

I went through a period of wanting to try all the teas, and was really into flavored teas, especially dessert blacks, but my tastes have substantially changed over time.

I still enjoy the occasional flavored black or rooibos, but I’m more into unflavored black teas right now and recently, puerh. Chinese black teas are amazing…with their notes of chocolate or sweet potato, who needs a flavored tea? I had a much steeper learning curve when it came to puerh. I used to dump out cups of puerh for tasting like leather. Now, I am really enjoying them. I think it took finding good quality puerh and steeping them gong fu style to really enjoy them.

I also, on occasion, enjoy a good oolong, white, or green tea.

Favorite tea companies right now include: Mandala, Teavivre, Butiki, Golden Moon, Lupicia, and DavidsTea (for teaware mostly).

Just a note: I don’t rate my teas numerically because my iPad doesn’t like the scroll bar. Maybe someday that will change…hint hint, steepster! ;)

P.S. My profile picture is of one of my 2 cats, Holly, who is a little princess but very photogenic, and she loves boxes, including those that bring me tea! :)
