Received some samples from an awesome tea friend! All were lovely shous :)

Golden Memory – smooth and lovely. I would drink again.

Trinity Blend – oh boy. I wanted to love it… cool name. But the fermentation flavor was out of control LOL. I even did extra rinses and couldn’t get past it.

7572 – This is perfect for an after dinner sip. Very mild, no excessive earthiness, just pleasant and yum.

This is another uniquely flavored tea, no apricots or smoke. It has no bitterness either, really. Some sweetness and a very mild, relaxing feel. Perfect for a Sunday afternoon. I lost count of how many steeps I got… at least 10. It’s unusual for me to drink that many consecutively without getting bored and switching to something else (even if I switch back later). Short attention span!

I admit that I went ahead and ordered a cake. It’s not expensive, tastes good, and made me happy.

It brews up to a lovely golden color. Goldie loved it and it has the Sarsonator Seal of Approval, too!

Me too. I cannot drink the same tea for long. And sheng usually is very resilient. I had to let go one today after 5 days. I’m sure it wasn’t done

SarsyPie 11 years ago

I’ve had several go for days also! But I need variety, so sometimes I have to pause and go back :)

I couldn’t sleep tonight so what did I do, I ordered from Puerhshop. I got a sample of this one.

Have any of you tried Bana’s Moonlight white Puer cake? I am trying to figure out what to order. I really want a Moonlight white cake, and I’ve had Bana’s, but it is twice the price and I’m wondering if I should just go with this one. Bana’s was almost too mellow for my tastes. Any advice on this?

Lion 10 years ago

Bana’s is 3x the price, rather!

Leaving a note just so I remember what I did wrong.

The first time I made this, I used very short steeps. The tea was weak and flavorless. So then I tried a 3 minute steep. And it was insanely bitter.

If I can get another sample, I’ll try a lower temp and maybe a 2 min steep. sigh I was really looking forward to this one. :(

AllanK 11 years ago

Is this a puerh?

SarsyPie 11 years ago

No, it’s listed as a black tea.

Pretty yummy! I received this as a sample and found it to be quite lovely. It made a perfect tea to start my day! Sadly at the current price, I don’t think I would get more. But I’m definitely glad to have received a sample. :)

Now this is a really interesting tea. I am working through a set of samples from Puerhshop.com and I’ve been steeping through them. Some I have to go back to, but this one really turned my head.

I took the first sip and thought I must be drinking an oolong! This has a much different flavor profile from many young shengs. Instead of apricots and smoke, I got more floral notes. It didn’t just remind me of an oolong, it quite literally tastes oolongy.

If cakes of this remain when I order again, I’ll probably grab one. Good stuff!

Ooooh, that sounds like one I gotta have. Added to my wishlist!

Cwyn 11 years ago

Somebody’s blog had an oolong tea cake recently, can’t remember where I saw it though.

TeaBrat 11 years ago

Red Blossom has a Shui Xian cake, I’ve never tried it though: http://www.redblossomtea.com/tea/oolong/shui-xian-cake-2012.html

SarsyPie 11 years ago

Thanks, y’all! I’ll be on the lookout for more like this. I wonder how well it will age and still retain the floral notes.

Whoa. Smokey. This has a pretty strong smoke aroma.

The cake was really tightly compressed, but I managed to pry off some leaves. I have a bit of a headache, so I’m not feeling too poetic, but I can say that I like it. It’s good.

And now I am gonna finish watching Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil and then possibly chop my own head off if I can’t get rid of this headache.

I love samples from tea friends!

This is very smooth for a sheng that’s from 2011. I guess the material could be older. I didn’t check. In any event, it’s got low bitterness. It leaves a nice aftertaste and is making me salivate like crazy!

I am really enjoying this one. Since it’s not super old, maybe I could get a cake at a reasonable price. I’ll check around. :)

What a week! Work sucked, house stuff sucked (electrical issues) and well… SUCK!

So today I have been taking time to try some new teas. This one is a winner fo sho. Very mildly earthy, like clean moss. Some coffee and chocolate notes. A lightly sweet finish and nice aftertaste. It’s a little leathery perhaps also. Just little hints here and there.

It’s a loose shou, nice and easy, no prying. Thumbs up!

Woo woo woo

This tea is something else. It’s yummy, but I’m decidedly woozy and will have to wax eloquent on THAT later. I wanted to get an initial note down quick. This leaves me with a very distinct sinking feeling. It’s like you’re on vacay in a swank-ass hotel and you collapse back onto an ultra soft and fluffy bed, sinking away into a cloud. I’ve also had a similar feeling in savasana after a long ashtanga yoga session.

To sum up: Tea=good=happy=super feelings=wooooooooooo

This one isn’t cheap, but I believe samples are available, so get one. NOWZ.

Edit: I’m currently sitting on my couch, reading text message fails, and laughing like a hyena. Tears are, quite literally, streaming down my face. This stuff is the real deal. If I could, I’d buy it all.

Thanks so much for the notes on this one Sarsonator. I almost bought a cake of this a year ago. It was choice between this one and The Tao Cha Ju LBZ. I got the LBZ but always think “what if?”. Guess I need to get a sample before it’s all gone:)

Have you ever seen a woman get her ass kicked by a tea? Because that’s me like RIGHT now. :p

AllanK 11 years ago

The only tea that ever did that to me was the Serenity Liu Bao by Fang Gourmet Tea.

Stephanie 11 years ago

Oh wow!!!

Cwyn 11 years ago

Amen to this one, pure tea drugs. I have two cakes of it and would buy it all if I could. As I noted on my review, the much-less expensive 2007 bamboo Naka from Chawangshop has a similar but lighter effect. Not the same full-on buzz, but a bit of it for less money.

SarsyPie 11 years ago

I’m still thinking about it today! I had the giggles like crazy! So fun!

Cwyn 11 years ago

Lol my son has to listen to me babble when I drink it.

This tea is interesting because it tastes like a thick coffee, with hints of chocolate and also some bitterness here and there. It definitely gains some harshness as it cools, but while it’s still hot, it has an excellent flavor and really lovely aftertaste.

I think that this would give any die-hard coffee drinker whip lash. I wish I knew a few because I’d love to try to turn their heads by brewing some up for them. Alas, the only really dedicated coffee connoisseur I know was my ex-boyfriend, who moved to Alaska after we broke up.

Oh well. More shou for me! :p

Love the look of the wrapper on this one, and also the other ones you have reviewed. Really interested in getting a few samples, but where can you buy it from?? I looked up the company name and all I got was this site: http://www.dc-tea.net/index.php
I’m assuming this is the company, but don’t have a clue how to order lol. I suppose I could just contact them and ask…

SarsyPie 11 years ago

OK, the easiest way is to contact O5Tea and get their puerh list emailed to you. The teas aren’t on their website, but I purchased them via email. JK Teas also has a few selections, with samples available, but the prices are steep.

And I haven’t tried it yet, but DC Teas has a Taobao page. If you’re interested in that option, I can send you a link. :)

DarkStar 11 years ago

Hey Sarsonator. I managed to find their Taobao page and they have a quite a lot of stuff, some at decent prices and some very expensive. Not too sure how I would purchase on Taobao as I think you need an agent if I am not mistaken. Will perhaps contact OSTea and ask for a puerh list.
