181 Tasting Notes
Mmm, the second time I brewed this was decidedly more underwhelming than the first…the flavours came out mostly as just ginger and cardamom (or maybe cinnamon) and it went terribly bitter as it cooled down.
Overall this cup wasn’t half as much fun to drink and I’m adjusting the rating accordingly. :/
Preparation
As far as simple oolongs go, this one is actually pretty nice.
The flavours are clean and well executed…I get notes of a tart fruit – maybe plum? – and some toasted (rice? wheat? barley?) hints that linger at the end of each mouthful.
There’s a smooth mouthfeel – no astringency or bitterness – and it’s just such an enjoyable tea that I’m sitting here happy to be drinking it. I’d highly recommend it for days when you just want a simple, easy cup that doesn’t really ask a lot from your tastebuds.
Preparation
This is a delightfully fruity, summer-y tea.
You can’t really taste the underlayer of green, but the overlay of pineapple and fruit is all kinds of wonderful (both hot and cold). With a little sugar it’s a pleasant drink for a not-so-wintery day.
Tasty and pleasant…I’d recommend this one.
Preparation
This is another tea that I really wanted to like…but the mix of mint and chocolate somehow fell flat. I think I’m just used to my teas having a bit more body to them, honestly, and the thinness of this one caught me off guard.
It’d be worth experimenting with later, but for now this one isn’t impressing me.
Preparation
I’ll admit that I wasn’t expecting great things from this tea – for some reason the flavours seemed like they’d be discordant – but I was pleasantly surprised once I made a cup.
The green isn’t overwhelming, first off…and you get a great, smooth (albeit slightly artifical tasting) lemon flavour on the front and just a hint of the ginger taste and heat on the end.
It tastes a lot like the honey and lemon teas I would make for myself whenever I had a sore throat – and I’m betting a little honey would do wonders for this – overall it’s just a very polite and enjoyable tea…I’m impressed. :)
Preparation
Earl Grey is one of those teas that makes me happy, truly, so finding a good one is a singular sort of pleasure…and this is a beautiful Earl Grey. I’m not sure what the “silky” part of the description means, so I’m deciding to translate it simply into “bloody delicious.” It seems accurate.
If you like your EGs with a solid, high-quality layer of bergamot this is one of the very best I’ve ever encountered. I’m not sure why I find it so appealing, but this is the sort of tea you just want to roll around in your mouth and savour every sip…delicious, full-bodied and utterly drinkable – this might just be my favourite (non-creme) EG.
Preparation
With the crap luck I’ve been having with flavoured teas so far today I figured a nice black tea might be just what I needed to knock my tastebuds back into working order.
This – as many of the other reviewers have mentioned – is a very good black. It’s complex and delightfully layered…it sounds almost silly, but I actually get a salty sort of sunflower seed taste in the front followed by a thick woodsy note and a mellow lingering burnt sort of thing at the end.
Sadly, though, I’m not a fan of strong black teas in general. I’d much rather have a breakfast blend or silky flavoured tea over this…and with that in mind my rating reflects my personal preference in teas instead of the quality of this delightful cup.
Preparation
This is another tea I would really like to like, but for some reason the combination of mint and licorice fell a little flat for me while hot, but mellowed into something kinda nice once it cooled off.
It still wasn’t something I really enjoyed drinking, so even though I finished the cup it didn’t make a real impression on me. Not one to restock, I’m afraid.
Preparation
I really had high hopes for this tea – since I love rooibos and ginger – yet the combination together came out tasting a lot more like cough syrup than either one. There was a bit of a ginger burn at the back end of each mouthful, but nothing appealing really appeared, no matter how long I sipped at it.
This is another one that I didn’t really manage to enjoy, so it went down the drain as well.
Preparation
In the bag this smelled faintly creamy; there were some chocolate chips mixed in amongst the black tea and I was salivating over the prospect of a rich, creamy-sweet breakfast tea.
Instead, this tastes like bananas. I wish that I could pick up the chocolate or the cream, but instead I’m simply getting a banana front flavour with black tea behind; as someone who loathes bananas, this obviously isn’t the tea for me.
Down the sink it goes, I’m afraid.
