1040 Tasting Notes
Thanks for sharing this with me Sil – It’s called a Christmas Spice Tea and I guess it is – but it read more as a chai. This is a nice light spice tea – I didn’t get as much fruit flavors as Sil commented on – but there was a hint of vanilla.
All in all this was an enjoyable cup. Happy to have tried it.
Spent the day drinking this one. It was part of the W2T club box that OMGsrsly and I shared. We decided to drink this one today, and I had high hopes for it as this is probably one of the most expensive teas that I’ve tried.
12 steeps later and I’m totally indifferent to this. It’s not bad – it’s not good. It’s not worth the price.
The first few steeps a little bitter (with steep 3 being the most) – a little sheng – a little sweet – but mostly just boring. There was a little creaminess about steep 5 and it thickened on the mouth feel. Basically though this didn’t really change that much through the steeps.
Always nice to share a tea with a friend – just wish this had been a better tea.

2016 Sheng Olympics
This tea read to me more as an aged white than a sheng. I’m generally a fan of aged whites to that’s ok by me. I have enjoyed Mandala’s Silver Bud Raw but it’s 2011 ? 2012 ? so not as aged as this one.
This tasted “old” it had a bit of a dusty – musty – something to it. Not in a bad sort of way – just it seemed old. Maybe I just prefer them not aged quite this much. There were some honey notes and some stone fruit – but it was also quite hay like.
I think this was a fun addition to the sheng olympics – especially if people haven’t tried this style of tea before. Happy to have tried it – but for my tastes – I have other aged whites that I like better.
2016 Sheng Olympics
I don’t like this – grassy – bitter – green – very sheng esque
OK so I got suckered into buying tea at Davids today. Sale + a bunch of favorites about to be discontinued = Dex coming home with more tea than she should have…..
I love this. It’s just so yummy. It’s exactly as advertised – Cranberry orange cinnamon baked goods. Light delicate – nothing out of balance. It just makes me happy…..
(I didn’t buy any Cranberry Pear and it’s on the discontinued list too – I might have to go back tomorrow and pick some of that up…..)
Yet another one that Sil shared with me.
I had a cup of this a few days ago and wasn’t quite sure what I thought about it. It was nice and really caramel – but wasn’t getting the burnt bourbon notes that are mentioned.
Not sure what I did different tonight – but wow – boozy. More leaf longer steep is what I think. Really like how it is tonight. A little smokey – a little caramel – a lot of bourbon (sweet booze). I’m going to get more of this one too – I will need to play with it. Me thinks a little maple syrup would go well in here (or even a little bourbon on those crazy nights)….
Just for the record – yes I"m drinking all three of these August Uncommon teas while I’m putting together a shopping cart – this is going to be my first purchase of 2016…..
Thanks so much Sil for introducing me to these amazing teas….. :))
OMG!!!!! This is the most amazing chocolate nut tea. WOW!!! Fantastic. It’s chocolate chestnut and just screams hot chocolate by the fire. Mmmmmmmmmm
I don’t have much more to say – other than 200g of this is in a shopping cart right now. Sooooo gooood.
Thank you Sil for sharing.
Drinking though a few of the August Uncommon teas that Sil sent to me.
Wow – this is really fun. A little unusual but really interesting. It’s just a really nice molasses, chocolate, bready black tea – and then there is this something in the background – if you don’t read the ingredient list it’s hard to put your finger on it. But then yep – that’s it – caraway – that’s why it’s a little pumpernickel bread ish. Awesome – in a strange kind of way.
I need more of this in my life – even though I don’t think it’s the kind of tea that I would drink everyday (that’s probably a good thing – it’s pretty expensive) – but on those days you need something special – this would totally fit the bill.
Thank you so much Sil for sharing.
I’d been drinking this all week at work and while it’s a really good everyday black – I didn’t think it was anything special. (What I was drinking I bought Nov15)
And then there was a sample of it in the box that Sil sent to me. That’s what I’m drinking today. Not sure when she picked it up – but this is totally different than my package – or it’s totally different steeped at home vs work.
I just find it interesting that this is really good – nice and dark, malty, bready. Could be the love from a friend theory – it could be home vs work – it could be a different harvest. What ever it is – I’m very happy to be drinking this today. Thanks Sil for sharing. :)
