drank Big Easy by August Uncommon Tea

This is not quite what I was expecting. I really thought that the barley would add a genmaicha quality to this.
This is mostly pineapple with just a hint of caramel. Not getting much of the green base – which is ok by me. I like it, not as unusual as the other August Uncommon blends, but it’s tasty enough.

Roswell Strange

Hmm; good to know. This is one I’ve been on the fence about in regard to ordering. Mostly because of the base… Did you drink it hot or cold?

Dexter

I drank it hot. I just got a sample of it. It’s good hot and I think it would ge good cold too. Verry dessery pineapple, not bitter or grassy at all from the green base.

drank Outlaw by August Uncommon Tea

I got my August Uncommon order today. So excited. Their packaging is so beautiful – the tins are sealed with pop off lids. I got a free scoop and a little brewing guide book, there was also a handwritten note – I love personal touches like that.
IMHO all August Uncommon blends are a little unusual and this one is no exception. I can’t quite put my finger on what this is like. It’s a little smokey. It’s a little cherry. There is some bitter – kind of like dark chocolate but not quite. There are other notes in here that I can’t quite decide what they are. Odd but in an interesting sort of way. This is complex and balanced but still confusing somehow. I’m on the fence a little on if I “like” it. I feel it grow on me and it certainly is interesting enough to keep me coming back for another taste. Will resteep it to see how it changes.

Sil

Look forward to seeing where you land with this one heh

Dexter

It’s better as it cools. There is something that us reminding me of dark bread… not caraway…that’s a different tea but something dark and yeasty

Dexter

Less leaf cooler water longer steep = less weirdness. Little sweetener splash of milk = happy Dex

drank Amaretto Cherry by CitizenTea

I love all things cherry. Amaretto just makes me happy. This tea is a nice combo of those two flavors. The black base is a little light for my taste. All in all I really like this but could be amazing with a different base.

drank Smores by CitizenTea

I’m not really getting S’mores out of this tea. In fact it tastes a LOT like Creamy Nut Oolong. Maybe a little sweeter, maybe just a HINT of chocolate but nothing I would consider campfire, nothing that says graham. This isn’t bad it’s just not S’mores.

drank Exotic Berries Oolong by CitizenTea

I really like fruity oolong, but most of them are too green (grassy) for me. This is a good one for me. The oolong base is there but in the back, not sure about exotic berries – but berry ish for sure.

drank Acai Raspberry Green by CitizenTea

This ia more acai than raspberry, but still a decent fruity green blend.

drank White Pear by CitizenTea

Pear is a difficult flavor to get right. This is more apple than pear. I also don’t really like the base used, it’s really finicky – don’t over steep it gets bitter quick. It has a lot of hay notes that overwhelms the fruit flavor. This is a miss for me.

drank Holiday Blend by CitizenTea
1040 tasting notes

I think this one is a little strange. I’m not getting much nutty as indicated in the description. It’s a little vanilla, a little sweet cinnamon, a bit alcohol,in a sharp black base. This is a snuggle up fall weather type tea. More fall than holiday in my opinion. Not my favorite, but a decent cup.

drank Chocolate Hazelnut by CitizenTea

This is just ok for me. It’s sweet chocolate with a hint of nut. Nothing really wrong with it, but it’s not really special either. I would prefer it if it were a little more bitter chocolate, and more nutty. IMHO there are better chocolate nut teas out there.

Evol Ving Ness

Too bad. It sounds like it should be fab.

Dexter

I think I’m just spoiled. Passage from August Uncommon is just sooooo much better than this. This one is ok just pales in comparison.

Evol Ving Ness

oh yes, there’s that.

C.S. Lewis – “You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”

I needed to update my profile. I joined Steepster 03Mar13. I am just amazed at how much my tastes have changed since then.
When I discovered loose leaf tea about a year and half ago, I didn’t know anything other than my local Davids and Teavana/Teaopia. Stumbling onto Steepster CHANGED EVERYTHING.
Hello, my name is Dex I’m a tea addict.
I’ve been through the “I need to try every single tea out there” phase. I really hope the worst of that has passed. I’ve learned enough to know that I only need to try HALF of all the teas out there. LOL
When I started this journey, I was all about the flavored rooibos and fruity tisanes. Don’t get me wrong there is still room for dessert (chocolate/caramel/nutty) Rooibos teas in my cupboard and I still do enjoy them, BUT I am quickly learning to appreciate the some of the straight teas of the world.
Big bold (but not icky)pu’erh is suddenly my favorite, followed by woody/roasted oolongs. I’m just starting to explore straight black teas, and have found some that I really like.
Generally speaking I’m not into greens at all, only like the occasional green oolong, and white teas are just too mild for my tastes (unless they are fruit flavored). I still enjoy really good fruit tisanes, but am now cold steeping them.
I don’t like floral/herbal blends, and mint anything is not on my preferred list.
I am still exploring new teas, adapting to my changing tastes, understanding more every day how little I really know about tea. Ultimately I would love to find approximately 50 teas that I just “can’t live without” and always have them in my cupboard. That might not be practical, but that what I’m searching for. It’s going to be a fun journey.

All in all, I love this site. I’ve met some wonderful people, and have gotten to try some amazing teas because of them. It really restores your faith in humanity when you get a note saying “oh by the way I sent you some tea”. Wonderful, generous, people here.
