162 Tasting Notes
Again, another staple in our home not necessarily because I really like it, but because my dad loves it.
For me personally this one is a winning combination. I don’t really care if the “lime” overpowers the mint (which I find it doesn’t in most cups…it’s like the odd teabag has more limey flavouring than the rest) since I like both lime and mint. The lime tastes more like lime cordial to me as opposed to lime juice or lime zest. Not that I’m complaining; I like lime cordial, too. It’s just not…real lime.
I really like mint tea, so it should come as no surprise that I like this. Granted, I also really like mojitos (with enough rum, of course) and this tastes nothing like a mojito. But as a “lime mint tea”? Yum. And herbal, too. So good to have in the evenings.
Verdict: despite this being my dad’s favourite and will get constantly restocked, I would buy this again for myself.

My opinion? It’s OK. it’s not very peachy, but definitely a lot of orange flavour in it. But it’s a weird orange flavour; more like orange candy, not the fruit or even orange peel. It’s a strange flavour. Not unpleasant, but not at all what it smells like, either. Which is unfortunate….I really, really, REALLY like the smell of the tea. I am a fan of this being an herbal tea; I would be disappointed if it was a green or black tea.
Verdict: will re-buy because mommy will be cranky if we don’t.
I think I probably bought this tea neglecting to read the “Decaffeinated” part, since I’m not a fan of decaf tea. I like herbal, I like tisanes, but teas that taste like they should have caffeine but don’t? My brain gets confused.
The actual flavour of this tea is pleasant. I really like lychee, and I really like green tea, so I figured this tea would either be awful or yummy. Yummy it is. It doesn’t really taste much like I just bit into a lychee, but there is that “something tropical” taste in the background. I don’t know how well actual lychee tastes when its dried, so I won’t hold the artificial flavour against them yet. The green tea itself tasted surprisingly good; I’m always surprised when a bagged tea doesn’t taste like stale grass.
Verdict: won’t re-buy only because it’s decaf and I’m not a fan of that (I either want something with caffeine, or something that doesn’t taste like green tea). But if there was a caffeinated version I’d buy it for sure.
Of all of the “Green Tea Plus” teas that Tetley has come out with, this is by far my least favourite. And by “least favourite” I mean yuck.
There isn’t anything in this tea that makes me think “purple”, other than mulberry leaves. Would it have killed them to put a berry in there of some sort? Or something with some flavour? This to me tastes like low-quality green tea plus “stuff”. And not good “stuff” either. It did make me feel more alert, but that’s probably because it has…dum dum dum…caffeine. I doubt any of the “aware stuff” that is in it gives it either a) flavour, or b) aware-ness.
Verdict: couldn’t pay me to re-buy.
I think I bought this thinking it was the Astralagus and Ginseng tea because it has the same bamboo border (WHY do companies do this?!) and when I pulled it out of the cupboard I was surprised to find it was something completely different. Ah, well. It can’t be THAT bad.
When I smelled the dry bag, I got a whiff of camomile. Which is weird, because it’s not on the ingredients list. So now my nose AND my eyes are playing tricks on me. Mint leaves are the first ingredient, so that was surprising. Didn’t smell that at all. But I did pick up on the lemongrass. I like lemongrass. This can’t all be bad.
You know what it reminded me of? A weird version of Yellow Dragon by David’s Tea. Since I really like Yellow Dragon, this is not disappointing to me. Actually, pretty awesome that I can buy it in a bag at about 1/4 the price for a quick-n-dirty version of the tea. And minus the caffeine. Like Yellow Dragon, I was equally disappointed that mint leaves were on the ingredients list but I had to concentrate really hard to FIND the mint in the tea. Maybe I didn’t steep long enough. I’ll try longer next time. The rest of the flavours, though (which seems like everything from the “herbal shelf” except camomile), were all yummy. I couldn’t really taste the licorice in it, but then again I also like black licorice. So I wouldn’t have been all that upset to have tasted it. I just might not have noticed. It also made me happy that there was marshmallow root in it (which is technically marsh mallow root, but who ever said grocery store superchains were botanically correct even a quarter of the time?!) until I realized that I don’t actually know what marshmallow root tastes like. So…nevermind on that one, I guess. It tastes like something. We’ll go with that.
Verdict: would re-buy.
I had one whole bag of this tea stashed away in an “herbal tea box” for my mom, only for her to declare years later that she doesn’t like “spicy” tea. Fine, then. Tell me that years ago, I get to drink it fresh. Tell me that now? I get to drink it stale. sigh
I was actually impressed with how well this kept. It’s probably because the inside has a plastic-like coating, which means it seals out the air better than just paper wrappers. Tasted pretty darn good, freshness-wise.
Taste-wise, it was also pretty darn good. Orange-y, spicy, yummy. It was exactly what I thought it would be: a cinnamon-and-spice (not quite a chai) tea with a hint of orange peel. Bingo.
Verdict: if I was out to buy an herbal tea in a bag, this just might be it. I really like it.
I find this tea tastes like licorice with a side of…“something”. Sure, a bit of cinnamon and a bit of apple, but that’s certainly not the predominant taste I get. I wanted this to taste either like apple cider or apple crisp, and it tastes like neither.
I’m disappointed. I didn’t have very high expectations for $1.49 for a bag of 20, but still. If I wanted a black licorice tea, I would have bought one. It’s not terrible, it’s just not what I wanted.
Verdict: wouldn’t re-buy because I like others much, much better.
Another “deep cupboard find”.
I must admit…chocolate and mint in a tea just doesn’t do it for me. This is incredibly unusual because: a) love mint everything, and b) chocolate mint is like a food group to me. I love chocolate mint everything. Except, apparently, tea. I tried a rooibos chocolate mint tea and was equally underwhelmed. Next bag I’ll try steeping longer, but I think this will just be one of those “should have liked in theory, don’t like in actuality” things.
There’s nothing WRONG with the tea. It’s a bit chocolatey. It’s a bit minty. It’s a bit tea-y. But it doesn’t taste like I just bit into a PEP patty or an After Eight mint. I think that’s why I’m disappointed…and that’s irrational, since tea could never taste like that. So I have unattainable tea expectations. What else is new?!
Verdict: would not re-buy. Not because it’s not good. But because I expect too much and I have other bagged tea for emergencies that I like more. Would recommend as an inexpensive chocolate mint tea, however. If that’s your thing.
When I first tried this tea I thought “…this shit’s terrible.” and promptly lost it at the back of the pantry. As I’m trying to finish up all of my stale tea bags to re-buy a very select few, I thought I’d give this a try again before throwing it out. And you know what? My tastes have matured…I think.
Turns out this shit isn’t terrible. It’s certainly no spring flower. But it would be mean to call it terrible. That is, mean if tea had feelings. But it doesn’t, so who cares. ANYway. It’s not terrible. It’s a bit…tangy, and has a bit of an unexpected KA-POW at the end. I don’t know specifically what is giving it these flavours, but I’m guessing Kola Nut has something to do with it. That’s the “energizing shot” at Booster Juice, and I find it always gives my smoothies a tangy after-taste even if there shouldn’t be any tang based on the fruit that’s in it. Like chocolate and banana. Yumm…I should get one of those soon. But I digress.
Tang and a punch. After drinking this I definitely feel more alert for a few hours compared to regular tea (again, Kola Nut), but don’t get the same zombie-like caffeine crash as when jacked up on coffee.
Dare I say…this tea might even be pleasant.
Verdict: would re-buy.
Dammit. Duplicated teas will be the death of me. Copying my tasting note and rating here, and will delete the other one.
Out of all of the “Colour X with…” superfruit green teas that Lipton has, this one is by far my favourite. It does taste peachy, with a little “something else” (mangosteen? Perhaps “artificial mangosteen flavour” since it sure doesn’t taste much like the fruit to me) added in for good measure. What would be so bad about just a peach green tea?! Nothing in my books. Mmm, peach.
As far as bagged tea goes, the quality of this one isn’t all that bad. Sure, I don’t ever expect the best green tea I’ve had in my life when I open a box of Lipton’s, but I don’t ever expect to be disappointed, either. And this one lived up to my mediocre standards, perhaps even surpassed them a bit. Since I like having bagged teas around for the “ADD IT TO CUP OF BOILING HOT WATER OUT OF KETTLE! RUN TO MEETING!!! RUUUUNNNN!!!!” times, I think I might keep it around.
Verdict: would re-buy.
