thought i’d give this one another go since it was in the box. Turns out, i’m still sort of “meh” it’s just a little bland for me…kinda like a basic black tea.

dexter sent this one m way and sadly it falls flat. I followed suggested steeping times and all i’m getting is a sort of black blend. there’s no vanilla or cocoa…just black and oolong hanging out doing weird things together. Oh well, happy i got a chance to try this one a couple times – just couldn’t make it work. thanks for the share dexter! appreciate it!

Thank you so much Andrew for the sample! I was always curious about this one.

This is a very unusual tea. Definitely tastes like candy. I’m mostly getting the Pu-Erh itself and the honeybush followed by the black and cocoa nibs. Imagine a cross between Mandala’s Noble Mark and Whispering Pines Art of Darkness if you can. As with any Pu-Erh, it got sweeter in the later steeps making me like it more.

Keep in mind that I’m totally biased in rating it. I like sweet teas, and knowing that this has honeybush, cocoa nibs, and Dian Hong influences my tastes. Mind over matter. I also have a real hard time with Pu-Erh- I either love it because of the way it makes me feel, or I really don’t like it because of its character. Pu-Erh is really the mummy of teas. Caffiene shall come on swift wings to those who drink past this threshold.

I liked it, but a lot of people would probably be put off by it. Newer drinkers would have a hard time with the Pu-Erh. More experienced drinkers might be Pu-Erh purists and appreciate the raw ingredients of this, but prefer the Pu-Erh itself.

This is an absolutely inspired flavor combination! The sweetness of the peach flavoring balances the sharpness of the bergamot perfectly and the Formosa base adds an interesting complexity that makes it a bit more special than a typical earl grey. I’m hanging onto this one!

You thief! I’m glad you like it. I’m not a fan of black tea very often and my best friend loves earl grey so I took what I liked and added that element to it.

Well, it definitely works! I didn’t keep much from this particular TTB, but this tea was a winner for me. :)

Sampling a few more things from this TTB before I send it on its way tomorrow. I love a good peach tea, so decided to give this one a go. The dry leaf is lovely with lots of big pink peach blossoms mixed in with the crinkled oolong leaves. It steeps up to a very pale green color with a light floral peachy aroma. Sipping, I do taste some peach (very natural-tasting, not that artificial candy flavor that too many peach teas have), along with floral notes and a hint of the base tea peeking through. Although I would have liked a stronger flavor, this was a very smooth, pleasant cup of tea.

Did you resteep this one? The oolong base changes when it unravels :)

Aww, sorry I didn’t see this earlier! I mailed the TTB today, so didn’t get a chance to try a re-steep. Thanks for the tip, though!

Mmm, I like this one! Smooth and lightly floral, with hints of almonds in the aftertaste. I see from the ingredients list that there are apples, rosehips, and some kind of flavoring in here as well, but this is one of those blends where the flavoring mingles so perfectly with the base tea that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins!

This was a delicate flavored tea. I had it before bed and I think it was the perfect tea for that time. In both the dry leaf and the brewed liquor, there is this faint undertone of melon. The first steep, I didn’t get too much of the melon flavor, mostly the white-green tea blend. The next few steeps however is where the melon came out to play. I imagine this is because the dehydrated melon pieces in there didn’t get fully saturated upon the first steep.

It is interesting because when I think of melon, my mind automatically associates watermelon. But this was more of a cantaloupe melon. Less juicy and more of an earthy rind type of cantaloupe/melon flavor. I apologize if that makes it sound bad. It isn’t. It is just a bit different than what my mind conjured up upon reading Melon Punch.

I would recommend this tea as long as you aren’t expecting a fruit punch type of watermelon flavor.

wishlist sample from dexter! this one was pretty tasty earlier today. I really love puerh and coffee and found this tea to be pretty damn tasty. As others have said, i didn’t really register the grapefruit exactly but the coffee came through as well as the cacao from the teas and the sort of maltiness blending things together. Enjoyed a few steeps of this before taking rental dog out for his hike in the woods off leash :)

I just received my large order of tea from Liquid Proust Teas. This tea was the first one I tried because I asked my wife which one she wanted to sample first and this was the one.

The name of this is so appropriate. At first I thought this was just a kind of quirky name for the sake of having fun. But after smelling and tasting this tea, I get EXACTLY how he came up with the name. The dry leaf scent of bergamot come through with a peachy note intertwined. It is enough to catch your attention. But the magic really happens when the leaves are steeped.

The liquid has such a sugary sweet peach note that my wife and I couldn’t stop smelling the cup. It is seriously bordering on magical how a tea is able to elicit such a sugary sweet note on the nose. The wet leaf definitely lets the bergamot shine. The taste on the tongue alternates between the peach and the earl grey type of flavor. Like I said, with the whole scent and tasting experience, the naming of this tea becomes obvious. I think the choice of the formosa is really an understated key as to why/how this tea becomes more that just an average tea. I think it lends itself well to create the sugary sweet peach here.

Really fantastic introduction to Liquid Proust Teas.

I pulled this one out to try even though i’ve had it before. I wanted to see if it tasted any different. This time it’s a much nicer blend. It still doesn’t knock my socks off but the base brew in this one is much tastier. it’s a little sweet, and there are some almond? notes. It’s not floral. Bumping up the rating on this one a little as this version works better for me.

Another sample from Dexter. I must say this one fell flat for me. I followed the steeping parameters but it ended up tasting a whole lot like a random black tea. No floral notes for me really, and maybe just a hint of almond? maybe? Ever so thankful for the taste but this one just isn’t up my alley.

Holiday TTB

Liquid Proust kindly donated a generous pouch of this tea to the Holiday TTB. I was feeling in need of a pick-me-up this morning, so decided to give it a try. It brews up to a beautiful deep orangey-red color with an enticing fruity aroma. The flavor is rich honey fruit sweetness. The first few sips were lovely, but the sweetness became a bit much for me by the end of the cup (I usually drink my tea unsweetened).

It does have home made tutti frutti in it :)
I drink my tea unsweet too so this would have thrown me off as well

Thanks for this one, Stephanie! It’s the first I get to try from Liquid Proust teas. Sadly, I wish it were any other one since I’m not usually a fan of the white pu-erh. This one tasted better than I remember a white pu-er tasting though. There doesn’t seem to be much fruit here, maybe hints of strawberry and lots of sweet that I think is completely natural! I also get lemon which might be the tea itself or flavor. The white pu-erh tastes like a very light white tea, which is a lot better than the flavor I remember from white pu-erh.
Steep #1 // 2 teaspoons for a full mug// 30 minutes after boiling // 1 1/2-2 minute steep
Steep #2 // 15 minutes after boiling // 3-4 minute steep

I had to try this again because Daylon ‘s review sold me a cup of my own tea… that’s kind of cool to think about.

In all honesty, that Pear Oolong by TeaLeaves is the best smelling fruit tea on the market which makes you wonder if Stacy is giving cheat codes out to someone…

Anyways, I measured one of the stems on these guys and it was 3 inches which is kind of crazy because that’s longer than my small fingers. If I wasn’t drinking three different things at the same time I could probably enjoy them all :/
That Mexican Hot Chocolate tasted like baby food got stuck in Barbie’s hair and the two fruit oolong teas tasted like sugar spilled on the floor of a wet surface that just had some cookies rolled on it. Yeah… all of that, I’m a bit crazy… It’s the weekend :)

I have so many samples to catch up on! This one was from Liquid Proust.

I had this yesterday and found it to be a good malty chocolatey black tea. I have to admit , I was a bit distracted while drinking it but I know it was pretty good.

Here’s Hoping TTB R5 #3

This is seriously delicious… It’s got some amazing sweet, bread, vanilla and cream notes to it and stands up very well to multiple steeping… And a splash of full fat milk makes this a decadent treat!! I don’t know if it necessarily reminds me of French toast but I don’t care it’s very tasty!! The moment this brew touched my lips I immediately jumped online to purchase some for myself but alas, it’s currently not in stock. Promise me Liquid Proust that you have a plan to whip more of this up sometime soon?? I must have more of this in my life!! Only one cup is torture!!

Liquid Proust

It sold out twice… I’m trying to find out when the new harvest will be to buy fresh material to work with, it’s a process. They will probably always well out though because my batches are never over a pound because I have to inspect each ball to have been exposed correctly to the process they go through.

Hope I get my hands on some next time it’s in stock :)

I’ve had quite a few cups of this tea and I found the first few to be very confusing.. but now I feel like I’ve developed a reasonably solid opinion to write a review.

The first times I had this tea, I was expecting there to be a lovely french toast flavor just bursting with each sip. The first thing that I noticed, though, is the rather prominent floral note. It’s a vague and soft background for what should be french toast and I can see how this tea would be a nice base for flavoring in general.

Behind the flowers, I honestly just taste a smooth chocolate and vanilla combination. Both are so light, though, and I just want something stronger to push it over the edge.. to make it really delicious.

I do like this tea and enjoy having it in my collection since I don’t have anything else like it. Despite having experimented with this tea at higher and lower water temperatures, I just can’t get any french toast flavor or really anything that resembles it… disappointing.

Liquid Proust

Just wanted to check up and see if this still has the floral notes for you. It confuses me, but you and one other person said it so I must investigate!

After opening up the Aged Oolong Sampler Group buy courtesy of LiquidProust, I looked around and sadly realized that I didn’t have an appropriate way to measure small amounts of liquid so I looked at the rest of the pile that has been patiently waiting for me to complete my move an have a day off. This one jumped up an down and said “Pick me!”.

The dry “leaf” (balls?) smell AMAZING. I get vanilla an bread out of it Brewed with boiling water with one ball for 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The brewed liquid is a light amber brown. I get faint vanilla as the scent. This is quite tasty. I get a bread like taste with a tickling of cinnamon.

Funny story about this tea, while I was waiting for it to come, my mom went into a spice shop and asked the guy for “French Toast Tea” stating that her daughter was very excited to try some an that she wanted to get some for me.

From the Here’s Hoping TTB, Round 5

I’m glad I got to try this. I’m really really glad, especially because I was really looking forward to the French Toast Dianhong and I can’t find it! LOL, oh well.

I’m convinced I would have hurt myself if I took a tea needle to this little cake, so I brewed it kinda gongfu style, but in my gravity steeper. Obviously this means aLOT more water to tea ratio, but looking at how this tea expanded over the course of the steeps (over three days), I think if I tried it just in my gaiwan I might have passed out in tea drunkeness. As it was even at 12 oz flash steeps, the fourth and fifth steeps especially made me super duper hyper/caffinated and tea drunk. The 2nd and 3rd steeps were kind of bitter and fermentedy tasting, but after that it was all sweet sailing.

Over the course of the tasting I’d say a few things that stood out to me was the smooth mouthfeel, yet it was heavy, like the feeling of honey water. There was no astringency, which I search for in a black tea, but rarely find. It was dark, yet mellow, and such an easy drinker. Even toward the end when I was starting towards the 3-4 min steeps it was behaving beautifully and I think it got to maybe seven to eight steeps before it really started to stop giving off flavor.

I imagine if you rinse it a few times, this would make a splendid grandpa brewing tea.

tea-sipper

Aw, it’s a shame you didn’t get to try the French Toast. I thought Liquid Proust mentioned he included enough for everyone that remained in the teabox. I was looking forward to trying it too.

Flyawaybirdie

I know right? I was sad. But it finally prompted me to actually put in an order with LP, especially since he says he’s not going to be doing blends anymore? Something like that, is my impression.

Liquid Proust

I’ll be done with basic blends and working on small projects such as home roasting milk oolong, dry aging tea in barrels, flavoring such as the French Toast, and a few fruit infusion teas. I just can’t justify selling something that is just items that are blended with just rations. If I want to be like Butiki, I’ll never settle for the easy route.

Liquid Proust

Side note: I 100% put enough for everyone to have one French Toast ball

tea-sipper

I guess some people participating in the teabox don’t follow along with comments in the teabox discussion thread. Oh well.

Liquid Proust

Let me know who didn’t get one, I can ship samples out

tea-sipper

And good luck to you in your fun endeavors, Liquid Proust. :D

Flyawaybirdie

It could be that they’re there, but I’m blind and can’t find them, but I’ve looked a few times. The people that didn’t get them, would include me and everyone after me… but I just got an order from you with french toast balls, so I was going to include two of my balls because I think there’s only Beelicious and Tea Sipper left. We should be fine! =)

Flyawaybirdie

Also, could be that some people before me didn’t get them, but I couldn’t figure out on the thread when they disappeared from the box.

I also totally believe that with your drive you can totally achieve Butiki fame. I look forward to seeing what comes next. =)

I never drank a tea with roses in it before, but LiquidProust provided me with a sample of this tea. Based on it’s name I was expecting a very “lovely” floral taste. However, I got a strong wooden taste that I didn’t like. I’ll likely retry the tea in the future to see if the wooden taste was just a fluke.

Yet another favorite. So glad that the base was kept in tact- it is so floral with a distinctive pineapple nectar quality. The blueberry really goes well with it, bringing about a blueberry muffin with lemon and flower nasal quality. I’ve brewed it way too many different ways to count. The gist consists of a greener, blueberry quality the longer you steep it, but then a more floral, orchid, lilac, plumeria, and pineapple quality with blueberries following. I’m still biased to the pure version of the tea, but this one is really good. Either way, it brews over and over again. Please don’t ask me about the measurements- the stems are still with the leaves, so it is hard to pin point how much you are using. Still stunning to watch unfurl. One warning though: it is a powerful detox that will make you pea.

I received a generous sample of this from Kaylee, my Secret Pumpkin. It’s really good! Even without my sense of smell I found this to be a good, smooth cup of tea. I’m getting kind of tired of saying that. For every tea I like I say something along those lines: smooth, or not bitter, or not astringent. But since I can’t smell I can’t really taste all the lovely, subtle flavors in a tea. But don’t under estimate how important smooth is. I’ve had some teas that were very astringent and/or very bitter. Believe me, a smooth tea is something to treasure. This one is certainly a treasure.

With my allergies, I can totally relate. I’ll make myself a cup of something that I know is wonderful, deep with nuance, only it’s not there. Then I start wondering if I imagined the whole thing… It comes and goes, depending on the pollen count, or the mold count, or whatever. Sometimes I’m a supersmeller/taster, other times I’m not.
I should move somewhere north & cold (although I guess being North and Cold are not always synonymous these days) so that I can savor flavors & aromas with wild abandon & not have to take allergies into account.

This was a donation from Liquid Proust for the Herbal and Decaf TTB. Thank you!

I couldn’t really give this one a fair treatment, since I’m having something of an aversion to sweet things with this pregnancy. Sometimes I’ll eat or drink something and the sweetness is just overwhelming and utterly unappealing. It’s really strange since I normally have something of a sweet tooth, and it wasn’t the case with my last two pregnancies. Since this tea was presweetened, I just could not take more than a couple of sips, and I couldn’t really focus on the flavor other than the overwhelming sweetness. I’d be willing to try it when my taste buds are back to normal, but it’s not for me right now.
