Thanks again to Liquid Proust for sending these for our box!
I also really enjoyed this one. There are a lot of stems in my scoop, but it didn’t detract from the taste of the tea.
The oolong base is fairly green but not overly vegetal. I am getting honeysuckle floral notes in aroma and taste. The berry is very nice. It doesn’t overwhelm the base but isn’t completely in the background either which is nice.
The resteep at 4 minutes is probably even smoother than the first infusion.

Thank you to Liquid Proust for providing this for the box!
There isn’t a lot of blackberry teas out there (not that I have tasted anyway), so I was eager to try this. It was not too sweet but sweet enough. The blackberry tasted fairly natural. The black base held up very well. It is a smooth tea.
The resteep at 3 minutes was just as good.

I find it interesting that with the last 5-6 grams of this left, I’m enjoying it. I had a tough time liking this earlier. but at least it will end on a good note with me. :)
This is a very different taste than I’ve experienced before. The main note I’m getting (honestly) is berries.
I put this on my counter last night, so I could make way for new LP that just came in this morning!!!
On to Mate Nectar after this one’s done.
This is a interesting tea. I have never had honeybush before, so I can’t say I know what it tastes like, but I think I at least could find myself tasting it.
I gave this a nice rinse—probably 45 seconds.
The first steep was very good. I did about a 15 second steep. There was no fermentation flavor in here. It was slightly sweet, and has that candy flavor as named. There was a hint of chocolate.
Second steep: i found myself wanting some vanilla, so I added some to it, and this was a nice addition. I liked this steep a bit better.
I really enjoyed the blend. The puer was there, but not overpowering like it easily could be. It really let the other ingredients come out.
Anyone out there reading this, adding some vanilla was a good idea. I think I’ll try blending this with the Peppermint Nom Nom. That’d be a solid combo.
This is probably the coolest tea (and one of my favorites) that I have ever acquired. Inspired by a birthday—that’s cool. The liqueur is a turquoise, lavender—that’s cool. The taste is really funky, and I like that. It’s citrussy—like Citrus Party Oolong—but much smoother and tastier. I haven’t cold steeped it yet, but I will in the warmer months.
Out of the 10 or so LP teas that I have this was the first one I tried for the second time. This interesting tea called out my name. I answered that call: Yes, I will drink you. Yes, I will resteep you. But…I will have to throw you away. BUT BUT I will drink you again.
See the effects of this tea on me?! It’s insanity!!! : )
I was in the mood for something sweet and I found this. Thanks LP for this large sample! I’m grateful to try your interesting blends!
I did 195 for about a minute, which made a really good cup of this. I have never had mate on its own and don’t know what it tastes like.
My mom bought me around a pound of Marshmallow Macoron from Teavana about a year ago. I still have about a pound left if that says anything about the tea. Mate Nectar is what I wish the Macoron tea tasted like. They’re similar for sure, but this MN definitely tastes way more natural.
I can taste all of the flavors. It’s a well balanced tea. My sister is enjoying it right now too.
Flavors: Apple, Candy, Carrot, Marshmallow
Interesting…I never wrote a note for this one, and I’ve had it for a while.
I like it. It is nice and light, and doesn’t make my stomach uneasy like several fruity-flavored teas do.
I’m trying to finish off a few teas before the new ones arrive—always an exciting task!
Flavors: Floral, Peach
I just remembered back to when I first ordered it. Tea was so fun and exciting (I was in the beginner,“try every tea” phase). I’ve taken too much for granted, and am starting to appreciate teas more again.
My first LP tea! I just got done with an online test for school, and midway through the test, the mailman delivered a box full of lots of LP teas and a bamboo container. I think it shipped in 2-3 days—Nice! Since the test was not timed, I decided to open a few of the teas and get a good “sniff.” Good idea! The bamboo container is very cool and well made. I put the Oolberry tea in there—It holds a little over an ounce of tea.
I’m drinking the first steep currently as I type. I’m interested to see if I can make a better cup of this because I made a dang good cup right now. The flavoring is very natural tasting. It’s well balanced. Neither flavor is overpowering whatsoever. I was scared that the bergamot would be too strong, but it wasn’t. The peach hits the tongue right away and the Bergamot finishes. It’s got a citrussy tang, and I like that. There’s no bitterness.
Okay, steep #2 findings: This ones a little sweeter and less tangy. It lost a little flavor, but not much. This is a pretty smooth tea, and the liqueur is a nice peachy amber.
Steep 3#: I probably steeped this one for 5-6 minutes, and it was actually STRONGER than steep #2. I’m wondering how many steeps I can get out of this. I’ll try for at least one more.
In conclusion, this is a very good tea. Well done, Andrew! I can tell a lot of time is put in to everything, so cheers!
On to Silver Jasmine.
Flavors: Bergamot, Citrus, Fruity, Peach
Preparation
This is another sample that Liquid Proust provided for free for the GCTTB5.
I quite like blackberry anything. I have had many blackberry and blackberry sage teas. Some of them have been good and some not so good. I find it mostly comes down to the base. And with this tea, the keemun base, works real good.
I don’t get much scent from the dry tea but as soon as the hot water hit the tea a sweet candy like blackberry smell wafted up. It was delicious.
The brewed tea is slightly smoky from the keemun base. There is a candy, slightly tart, blackberry flavour. The sage is super light, which actually works well with the tea. It gives it that slight pepper on the back of your throat with each sip. The candy blackberry flavours lingers for quite a while in the aftertaste.
I quite like this one. The keemun and blackberry work well together.
P.S. LP – you should make more of this :)
Preparation
Liquid Proust very generously offered up samples to include in the GCTTB5. I snuck a sample of some of the teas before I sent the box out as chances are there will be none left when it comes back to me.
This one sounds interesting. I quite like mead, the drink, so I thought this would be right up my alley.
The dry tea smells mostly just like a gold tipped tea to me. Nice and malty. The brewed tea does have a hint of bees wax scent, it is slightly sweet smelling and malty.
To me the tea is moderately bold, there is definitely quite a bit of malty flavour. There is just a slight bit of astringency at the end of the sip. There are hints of the bees wax flavour. There is a very subtle sweetness to the tea. The liquor feels quite thick as you swallow. Not so much honey flavour though. As the tea cools, it becomes more sweet with slight fruity undertones.
This one was a good tea. I would have like it to be a bit more meady, but that is just my preference.
Preparation
This stuff is the truth! If you are a person who enjoys both the malty goodness of black tea and also the smokiness of a good coffee, this is a great blend for you. There is a hint of the grapefruit in there to give it a citrus bittersweet note but it is not overpowering. In fact, everything here blends together to create a nicely done tea. I’m glad I bought 2 portions of this!
Flavors: Citrus, Coffee, Malt, Smoke
Preparation
This is the first tea that has made me want to eat cookies. I was saying to myself – num, num, num. In fact, I think it would be a good addition to my shortbread recipe. Maybe 2T ground would do it.
The first three steeps are harmonious and fragrant. The mouthfeel is light but still present and grounding. Lavender, vanilla and oolong all play beautifully.
I did find that by the fourth steep, the vanilla overwhelmed its spot reminding me of creeping phlox (unwelcome in my garden) and maybe some honey would have cut it back down to size. I’ll probable just keep it to three steeps and stay delighted.
I have drank this the last few days and have finished the bag. I have to say that this tastes better than I remember it. Not that it was bad before but I don’t remember it being quite as smooth and flavorful.
I kept expecting this to go bitter considering the last two sessions I have really overleafed it but no. Smooth as ever. Smoother than I had any business asking it to be. The early steeps showed a more floral note while some of the roasted qualities came out to play in the 3rd or 4th steeps.
Maybe my palate is more refined now but I have been digging this tea this week. Rating bump.
Flavors: Floral, Roasted
Preparation
A really neat tea blend. It is a chameleon, a shape shifter. Brewed gongfu style in my gaiwan, I did a flash rinse. First infusion was for 10 seconds. A good portion of the rolled leaves had already almost completely opened upon the first infusion while others still stayed fairly tightly packed. This would be a good precursor to how this tea would change throughout the session depending on what leaves were wakening at different times.
Overall though, this was a pretty consistently delicious blend. The changes in flavor and slight astringency were subtle throughout. The color of the liquor was mostly a hay yellow. A good tea buzz kicked in after the 4th steep. I like it!
Preparation
Excellent news everyone, I got a new pillow. Ok, really I cant think of much to say today, nothing exciting happened and I have been lazy, so I shall cut to the chase and talk about tea.
Today we are taking a look at another offering from Liquid Proust Teas, Oolberry, a lightly berry flavored Oolong. The Oolong looks like some sort of bizarre alien creature, all tentacles and green, or at least it does if you squint, these stems are really entertaining. Their coloring adds an interesting contrast to the nuclear green color of the Oolong leaves, it is a visual treat! Sniffing the leaves, the aroma is primarily the Oolong with notes of buttery sweetness, orchids, honeysuckle nectar, and a touch of hyacinth, but along side the very heady floral notes is a hint of raspberries and blueberries. The berry note is ghostlike and distant, and if I didn’t know this was a flavored Oolong I would think my nose is playing tricks on me.
I could not decide how I wanted to brew this tea, so I flipped a coin, very professional! Heads meant in my steeping apparatus and it was heads it landed on, so into the apparatus the leaves went for a nice western style steeping. The leaves unfurled quite prettily in the water, it was great fun to watch. The aroma of the leaves is creamy and sweet, notes of orchid, honeysuckle, and hyacinth dominate with undertones of spinach and butter, at the finish there is a tiny hint of berries. The liquid smells like a blend of hyacinths, orchids, spinach, and raspberries. It is quite sweet and heady.
Time to taste the pretty golden liquid, the mouthfeel is smooth and the taste is pleasantly mellow. It starts with heady orchid and hyacinth, this floral burst moves to buttery green notes of bok choy and spinach, with a touch of cooked celery and chestnuts. The finish has a nice little burst of raspberries and blueberries, like a very distant note, tasting more in the nose than the mouth, and it lingers a bit into the aftertaste. This is definitely a very light flavoring, usually when I see blends listed as ‘light’ it is usually not very true, this time it is, the base tea shines and the berry notes are very faint, almost like drinking an Oolong after eating berries and relying on the aftertaste to add to the tea. I had another steep and did not notice much change, the berry taste was lighter and the base tea was a touch greener, it was a refreshing tea and I find myself tempted to cold steep it!

This was a really nice, lighter flavored tea for this evening. The liquid felt smooth and light in my mouth. It had the feel of a white tea with some of the flavor from a Jasmine tea with each playing a minor to the others major, if that makes sense. Look, it’s late. Basically, this is a really nice and dependable blend for those times when you want a lighter and slightly floral tea.
Flavors: Flowers, Jasmine
Preparation
Well this is a fun tea. The insanity part, for me, comes from the color the tea brews up. I was not expecting an electric purple (for the dramatic crowd)/bright lavender(for the pragmatic crowd). The flavor itself is a light, sweet, slightly floral blend though with so many different kinds items in this blend, I have a feeling your tasting experience with be slightly different every time. What fun! This is actually really enjoyable the more that I drink it. It is very smooth and I feel I’m getting a slight tangerine after taste.
Flavors: Flowers, Sweet
Preparation
Yup, nailed this blend. From first sip to last, all I could think about was how I could absolutely drink this in a spa. The scents and flavors are so classic and specific to that experience. Really good for relaxing by a fire at night.
Flavors: Floral, Vanilla
