Considering the Burning Season™ BC often gets, I’m kinda weirded out by the name of this tea.
Also, it smells bacony. Which is something I wouldn’t expect due to the rose, jasmine, and bergamot.
It’s not terrible, definitely drinkable with a touch of maple and some sort of milk or cream. This one does better with a shorter steep time for sure.
But it’s not the smokey tea of my heart. That one is Murchie’s Russian Caravan. Which I’m out of.
Preparation
GCTTB
So since I am home today, I have been trying to make my way through the box so I can pass it on in a timely manner. That means I have tried a lot of tea and since most of it is caffeinated, I have gotten a little jittery. So, I decided to balance out all that caffeine with some caffeine free options. This one has a faint berry and maybe a little vanilla but mostly it is bland to me. It’s not bad but not really memorable either. Nonetheless, thank you Arby for the chance to try something new.
GCTTB (round 6) entry
mmm minty and delicious. I did find this a tiny bit herby, but in a good way. Delicious spearmint and peppermint, slightly floral (chamomile?). The herbs are a bit sweet and extremely fragrant. This is a fine herbal, I’m quite impressed.
Unlike another tasting note, there is no licorice or fennel that I can taste.
EDIT: steeped it longer and there is definitely licorice root, it was just hidden with a soirt steep time
Flavors: Flowers, Herbs, Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Sweet
Preparation
GCTTB tea 7/8 that I picked.
Similar to the Evening lights tea I picked, I did not find this tea to have a prominent licorice taste like other reviewers did (and once again, that’s prob due to my shorter steep time). about 2tsp, 200F water, 5 min. I found this had a mint taste, followed by a mix of floral, then maybe a bit of licorice? Altogether it’s alright. I’ll use it up no problem.
Flavors: Floral, Mint
Preparation
After trying Movie Night from DAVIDsTEA, I figured I black popcorn tea would be equally as good. Like Movie Night, this tea steeps super light, but that is about all these two teas share.
The tea has a strange taste. It’s like it’s trying to be sort of sweet and kind of caramel-ish, but has no taste of popcorn or butter or even toffee.
I hate wasting tea, but I ended up throwing this one out because I don’t think I could have pawned it off on anyone.
Flavors: Apple, Caramel, Toasty
Preparation
I like this tea so much, I went through two 100g bags in two months. I don’t live very close to Granville Island, so I probably should have savoured it longer.
Like the other reviewer mentioned, there is no “pastry” taste, so if that’s what you’re expecting then you will be disappointed. Rather, it tastes like a sweet black tea with a slight hint of chocolate and a light raspberry flavour. It doesn’t steep super strong, even at the 5 minute mark.
I just add milk and no sweetener because I find it’s sweet enough on its own.
Flavors: Chocolate, Raspberry, Sweet
Preparation
The fluffy white bits in this tea were a bit odd, and I am not sure if I tasted them or not. I am glad that I had used a tea bag though because they made a mess.
I cold brewed this overnight.
It was really refreshing and just a little sweet but not overwhelming. The mango was fairly natural tasting. This was a pretty good one!
With three weeks of wildfires raging, I can’t bring myself to reach for and enjoy any of my smokey teas right now. * Shakes fist at fires *
I was thinking the same thing yesterday, as we’re getting smoke from WA fires. It’s gonna be a bit before I can enjoy my smoked teas again.
