Thanks to mtchyg for the sample! I adore you and hope your power out there in Michigan is restored soon.
TO THE TEA. I’m a bit wiped out, so I picked this high-caffeine blend. I’m petsitting an 8-month-old dog who whimpers at night. I don’t know what the dog’s mommies usually do (let him sleep in the bed?), but crating him and leaving him alone is apparently not it.
So ahhhh, a nice chestnut caramel blend. (There’s also allegedly vanilla here. I’m not sure.) I don’t know what a chestnut tastes like, but this is a fairly flat, deep-note caramel/molasses black.
It’s a nice blend, and I’m enjoying it, but I am unlikely to write home about it.
There are other teas for which I would definitely get a nice notecard, an envelope, a stamp, a fancy pen, and craft a letter to my mom. (Please don’t call my bluff on this.)
That said, this caffeine is a blessing this afternoon.
Here’s the puppy, in case you were wondering:

Good Morning! This may be my perfect morning cup… Or at least the best one I have found so far.
If you have read my other tasting notes, you know that Ceylon Sonata has been my typical wake up cup of tea. I typically have liked Earl Grey’s but many that I have tried have too much bergamot for my taste. This has enough to give the tea a great nose and the black tea comes through with the proper amount of “this is tea, stupid” to assault my tongue after the bergamot taste fades.
A half awake man driving to work, I stick my nose near my cup, breathe in and smile… the traffic fades away, the thoughts of the coming work day fade away, and I am in the moment, focusing on the coming tastes on my tongue.
This is a blend of Ceylon Sonata, Irish Breakfast and Earl Grey from Adagio. Considering that you can’t buy a sample of a “blend” it is daunting to actually order this without somehow trying it first (Even with the small bag, you do get quite a lot of tea). It seems to hold out for two steeps, but the second is definitely weaker than the first. I typically steep for 4 minutes the first and 4:30 for the second, since the second is weaker and I haven’t gotten any bad tastes yet from the second, I will increase my second steeping this morning to 5 or maybe even 5:30 to see what happens.
Preparation
I finished up my beloved Red Dragon today and I’m a bit sad to see him go. I don’t think I will be purchasing more, I think I’m now looking for a separate Irish Breakfast and Earl Grey instead of the combined power of Red Dragon. I enjoyed our time together and I want to thank Erin for making this great love affair possible.
Yum!
Preparation
You probably will not like this as much as the Red Dragon but I just crated a more light-hearted counterpart of Red Dragon – Green Dragon http://www.adagio.com/signature_blend/blend.html?blend=12215&SID=b6e2d898903511a81447492541ba4d81
Just letting you know anyway :)
Yum! My grad school work is getting the best of me, but I always have time for a tea break.
You can do it! With tea by your side! =) A school work to-do list, broken down into small manageable portions, and focusing on only the current portion with a short break as a reward after finishing it got me through. What are you studying?
It isn’t too bad, I just had a lot to get done in a matter of a couple of days because of all my projects coming up. I’m working on my master’s in elementary education/esl instruction.
My original tea plan for the day was to have black tea in the morning, followed by green this afternoon. When I looked into my tea drawer and was about to pick out a green, the Red Dragon started to call my name. None of my greens sounded good after thinking about the Red Dragon.
Yum! Will I ever love a tea as much as the Red Dragon? I’m not sure, but if I find one, be sure not to let the Red Dragon know…he gets jealous.

Aww. The feelings are mutual. My power did come back on. The same day that I received your tea box, actually. I’d like to believe you had a hand in it.
Also, just this past Christmas as I was singing my favorite Christmas song (Actually titled “The Christmas Song” but better known as “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.”), I had pondered the fact that I have never actually had chestnuts roasted on an open fire DESPITE the fact that I am a very Christmas-y person. The spirit of the season is strong with me. So yeah, I’m with you. Don’t actually know what a chestnut tastes like. I do have a fire place though… hmmm…
